46 problems related to carrier/rack have been reported for the 2013 Chevrolet Avalanche. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Dashboard has significantly cracked in 2 places with no cause. Truck only has 39000 miles on it and is garaged all the time and does not sit in sunlight ever. Dealer denies any defect after multiple interactions.
Cracked dashboard on top of airbag. Safety issue if airbag deploys.
The dashboard cracked soon after I purchased the vehicle and the dealership said that it's not a safety issue for them to look into. It's such a distraction while driving when this shouldn't have happen being I bought this vehicle for the stand up value and reputation of chevy. I got into my truck after being parked in my job parking lot after a long day at work and to come out to see my dashboard cracked. The quality of chevy has to improve and this may cause accidents and not to mention the chevy name to be tarnished cause the lack of concern for there dedicated customers.
Dash cracks in several places. Crack first appeared at 70,000 in August 2016. Shown to dealer who contacted gm and informed us that it was not a covered repair.
The dashboard has cracked in two different places near the airbags. I see online this is very common and Chevrolet doesn't seem to be very receptive to fixing this safety concern. I believe the cracks just happened overnight since I noticed them first thing in the morning on my way to work.
The window trim on the rear window has a known defect. The plastic frame of the window cracks and separates allowing water to enter the cab. Gm is aware of the defect but is unwilling to replace what is clearly a design flaw.
My dealer worked on my ac components in 2015 (not sure of the exact date) to replace the ac controller components, shortly after the repair my dash cracked while sitting in my driveway about to crank the vehicle. On the driver side over the last 3 years it has continued to increase in size and now is cracked completely causing the dash to be two separate pieces. Safety issues and concerns are if a crash occurs will the occupants of the vehicle be safe of sharp flying debris within the cab. My concern is not only for myself but my passengers. I have inquired several times about replacing the part but it was not covered under the extended warranty at the time it initially cracked. Mileage of initial crack was approx 75,000.
I purchased the vehicle new and after some time my dashboard started cracking breaking up around passenger side air bag and just above instrument panel on drivers side its and getting worse.
I noticed about 6 years ago my dash starting to crack on my 2013 Avalanche it has now cracked completely across and come towards the steering wheel which to me is a safety hazard I did notice that there had been a class action lawsuit but it was denied but I still think it is a safety hazard when I'm driving I hit a bump it cracks more eventually it's going to crack and fall into my lap.
Rubbing sound when turning the steering wheel, fixed when car was under warranty, was told it was the air bag. Rubbing sound has returned. Also there are several cracks in the dashboard, which could be hazardous if the airbags were to deploy during a front end collision.
2013 chevy Avalanche dashboard cracking, passenger side around airbag, I am afraid of airbag deployment and pieces wrongfully killing my child.
