Chevrolet Avalanche owners have reported 12 problems related to wiper (under the visibility category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chevrolet Avalanche based on all problems reported for the Avalanche.
First recall, only dealer on island (hawaii) went out of business and couldn't be done by a gm dealer. Windshield washer fluid heater was removed by a mechanic shop at my own expense. Second recall, the passenger airbag inflator hasn't been done due to the fact that 2007 - 2014 chevy Avalanche, tahoe, suburban & GMC yukon are known for cracked dashboards which includes my Avalanche. My dashboard was cracked before the airbag recall and I covered the dashboard with fiberglass mat and resin to repair it as a new dashboard was not covered by warranty and exceeded over $2,000. 00 to replace. The area to access the airbag is sealed and would require a new dashboard. There is now a new chevy dealer here that can do the recall but I would have to pay the cost to replace the dashboard so it hasn't been done as I'm not able or willing to pay for the additional expense.

I am a new owner of a 2003 Avalanche, I was satisfied with my purchase but my soonroof falls under the appropriate serial numbers (6,000,000-6,300,000) recall states that it may be covered by the company webasto hollandia. Vehicle is fine to drive places but sunroof must be fixed for coming winter. It worries me as there's a slight danger of it causing a road hazard if it were to fall out.

My 2008 Avalanche ltz was parked on the street during a snow storm, after I started it I turned the wiper switch to delay to clear the small amount of snow on the windshield. The wipers moved form park to approximately 1/3 of full travel and stopped. I cleared the windshield with a brush and drove home (1 mile) with some difficulty. I started to troubleshoot the problem, and came to what I thought was a solution, multi-function switch was bad. Replaced switch, sill no wiper movement. Checked the plug at the motor for power (again), power at the plugs hot terminal was 11. 8v, turned switch to on (slow speed) and no power to any other pin, now I am stumped. Guess I have to call the dealer.

The wipers started going slow then stopped blocking view. Checking online everyone seems to believe the wiper systems transmission points are failing. This is very dangerous when it's raining and you lose your wipers.

My dash is cracked and it reflects the crack on the windshields and causes glare. If the airbag was to deploy the sharp plastic would cut you from the broken dash. This is a dangerous situation. There are thousands of people with the problem and there are groups on facebook with thousands that have this issue. Gm will not repair or replace it.
With 64,000 miles the dash is cracking in multiple places. If reflects the broken area onto the windshield so it impedes vision and could affect the airbag as it is broken around the area. After researching online most owners have this dash cracking issue around the airbag and upper dash. If the airbag was to deploy it would most likely eject hard plastic parts at you with the airbag.
Dash has started cracking everywhere. Around the passenger airbag there are cracks in the hard plastic dash, afraid if the airbag were to deploy that it would send small pieces of cracked hard plastic as projectiles. Dash is also cracked around in dash speaker, and behind instrument panel.

Windshield wiper systems that will not turn off/ (moisture sensitive wiper system), because the presence of water within the wiper modules can either cause a short circuit or can lead to the corrosion of components within the module. Defect consequence:
depending on the occurrence and weather situation, driver visibility could be reduced, which could result in a crash. Same condition as recall id from NHTSA: 04v046000.

Vehicle suffers from excessive front/side window fogging in below freezing temperatures and the manual hvac controls will not permit the use of a/c to remove the humidity from the cabin. In summer months or temperatures above freezing, the a/c will engage when the front window defroster is enabled and is effective. With the hvac system in full defrost and no a/c, the fogging actually gets worse and visibility decreases to the point where it is no longer safe to drive and we have had to pull over and wipe the windshield and side glass down. This has happened 6 or so times since acquiring the vehicle new in 2010. An attempt to have the dealer resolve it was not successful.

Takata recall nothing has been done to fix the problem.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche. While driving approximately 20 mph during rainy weather, the rain sensitive wipers responded at a slow rate. The windshield had a lot of water on it because of the slow response of the wipers; the wipers did not function with snow. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was told that there was nothing wrong. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 1,500 and the current mileage was approximately 30,000.
I have had 5 Avalanches 3 07s 2 08s all have dash cracking issues the breaking dashes crack cause glare in drivers eyes noises that can take focus off the road every one I've owned it's happened gm used a proprolyene dash that gets brittle when introduced to heat. This is known by gm as a defect but u guys have not enforced them to fix it's a extremely expensive fix labor is high and I'm 5 for 5 on cracking dashes. 3 have cracked so bad that when the sun hit them they throw glare toward my eyes. It needs to be addressed this is crappy. Just like gm and the crappy Cadillac srx headlights they know it's a defect then fix it.
