My daughter came to a stop in traffic at a red light 50 feet from the car in front of her and was hit in the rear traveling at about 40 miles per hour knocking her in to the car in front of her the air bags did not deploy and gm's investigation says she wasn't hit hard enough. She was sent to the hospital via ems with back and neck injury's this whole accident was caught on the car wash video cam .
While traveling to a doctor appointment at approximately 2:30 pm on 11/18/09, I hydroplaned on the wet interstate I 40 east, near exit 37, slid sideways at a 90' angle to outside lane of I 40 east, attempted to countersteer into the slide, which caused my vehicle to spin 360' and strike the concrete lane divider head on at 40 or 45 mph. The vehicles air bags did not deploy, and I probably sustained a greater chest contusion to my sternum due to seat belt restraint impact to my chest. This has also caused an increase to back pain due to a prior problem of 3 fused vertebrae in my upper spine and probably a fractured sternum, but x-rays are not conclusive. I can not help but think had the airbags deployed I would not have sustained such a severe blow to my chest and would not have been injured nearly as bad as I have been. I believe the air bag system malfunctioned as the car was a total loss, and the impact knocked me unconscious for about 15 seconds. I remember the back wheels of the vehicle flying up into the air, and the rear end bouncing back to the ground.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact stated that the transmission locked up on his vehicle. While making a right turn, he stated that the front half of his vehicle stopped, but the rear continued to move. The speed was unknown. The vehicle rolled over three times down an embankment and was destroyed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on three occasions and they stated that the computer control transmission system failed. The vehicle downshifts and locks into gear by itself. The failure began after a recall was issued by the manufacturer. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact was the only occupant in the vehicle and was not injured. A police report was filed. Gm does not accept responsibility for the failure. The failure mileage was 98,000.
On September 16, 2007, my daughter was struck by a drunk driver. She was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Aveo. She lost control and struck a concrete retaining wall virtually head on at 55 mph. The insurance company totaled the car, due to heavy front end damage. Her air bags did not deploy, although the vehicle was equipped with them. I called Chevrolet on sept 21, 2007, to request that they look into what happened to the safety features on the car, and why they did not work. In return, the report is bogged down in red tape, an inspector called us last week (oct. 11, 2007), and said he would be looking at the car. So far, we cannot locate a report and chevy is denying the inspection took place. I am sure they are stalling for time so the car is sold for salvage. This was a serious problem, and should have been looked into immediately, which is all that asked of them. In return, nothing but stalling tactics have occurred. Chevrolet refuses to give phone numbers for customer assistance, and keeps referring me back to the department I cannot get information from.
I was traveling approximately 35 to 40 mph on a straight road. The vehicle in front of me stopped about 75 feet ahead of me. I pressed on the brake pedal to stop but there was no pressure and it went to the floor. Due to having no brakes, I hit the back of the other car. The airbag failed to deploy and I hit my head on the steering wheel. When I reversed the car and pressed on the brakes again they worked. The front end of the car was smashed in damaging the headlights, radiator, hood, bumper, and unknown other parts at this time.
