2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2014

Car went to 500 rpm then dropped to 300 rpm then down to 100 rpm; I immediately pulled off the main road to a side street. Lost power steering and was unable to restart car again. Car taken to local mechanic after running diagnostic tests on the vehicle, determined the car was savable and that the timing belt broke causing three sets of valves to bend. The timing belt kit, head gasket, water pump and valve kits need to be changed. The engine needs to be reconditioned; new engine oil needs to be put into the car along with flushing the fluids. Since this is a massive rework of the vehicle, it will be out of service one week and the repair cost is $2,100. 00. Mileage on the car is under 60,000, I am original owner. General motors - Chevrolet division contacted because I did not take to a gm dealer for service (unable to afford) and because they advised me this is so far out of the warranty, they would not offer any assistance. However, I did look up a service bulletin and it did say the parts are under warranty.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2012

Hi I bough a 2005 chevy Aveo with 9,000. 00 mile I had no problem. Until one day the car completely stop and wont turn on. It had almost 23,000. 00 when it happen. Luckily for me it stop in front of a mechanic shop. The shop check the car and said the engine is bad. I bough a used low mileage engine replace it and it turn on and drive except for the shifting. It didn't shift to fourth gear and also turn off while driving it. Then I was told the transmission is bad. I change the transmission with low mileage and still I have the same problem I had warranty change it again and still it doesn't shift fourth gear and it still turns off. I change the computer, I did a tune up, engine oil change, I've change the coils and some seal in top of the engine, and I still have the same problem. The car been sitting since then I wanted to wait to have money to fix it, thinking that maybe the shop was lying to me by asking me to replace all this things. I save I few dollars and wanted to get it fix I had another shop looked at it and it seems that is the same diagnostic was detected. I friend told me to google it and I found out that am not the only one with that problem. I just wish I google it before I spend all the money on it. Lesson learn I hope they do a recall because I too was afraid to drive and get in to an accident because it turn off on me .

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2012

2005 Aveo (bought new) with timing belt failure destroying engine. Had this happened on the interstate at 70 miles an hour it could have been fatal. From my research GMC has known about this issue since at least 2006 and yet have not assisted consumers to correct this nor recalled their car. I have read reports on almost all years of Aveo having this problem well before the 60000 recommended timing belt replacement. Two different mechanics confirmed timing belt failure. All I get from GMC is the run around. Upset over money but more concerned about these cars being on the highways and creating some horrible accident when the engine suddenly stops working and controlling the car is difficult or impossible. Planning to get rid of mine, can't afford the thousands of dollars to fix nor do I trust this car.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2010

I have a 2005 Chevrolet Aveo that has given me numerous problems. A little over a year ago I noticed I could not shift my car out of park I have to use a screwdriver to shift my gear out of park. Soon after I noticed my brake lights stopped working. I brought a box of fuses but this only fixed the problem for less than a week. Every time I put a new fuse in the brake lights went back out in a day or two. One day while I was on the freeway my car just suddenly stopped without any warning. I took the car to the dealer it was still under the power train warranty. It was a electrical problem causing all of these problems and cost over $2,000 to fix. A year later the problems started again I can't move my gear without using a screw driver, my brake lights and headlights are out. If I slam the hood of my car one headlight will come on which shows that something is wrong with the wiring. The engine light and hold mode light flashes constantly. I feel this car is dangerous because there are no brake lights which can easily cause a accident. I was pulled over by the police because of no brake lights a $125 ticket. I am in a bind because I really need my car for work but I do not have $2,000 (no longer under warranty) to fix this car only to have the same problem happen again months from now. Also, I have noticed a strong gas smell from the car that has me concerned. I have read so many internet post from other people complaining about the same problems. This car seriously need to be recalled because it is endangering people lives.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2006

2005 Aveo 3rd time with this problem it will not come out of park it sticks . 2 times the dealer told me it was the shifter. 3rd time they told me it was a bad connection to the brakes. Know sense they stated it's fixed when you press the brake the shift clicks loud also you don't have to push the shifter down it just slides up and down. . Not safe I need a good car that I feel safe in.
