2005 chevy Aveo, both of the inside door latches broke. They seem to be made of plastic and broke very easy. ## VIN failed ##.
Went to lock driver side door and inside lock would not push down and found outside lock had fallen inside the door panel. Online research indicates this is a very common problem on Aveos due to defective plastic parts and dealerships seem to be charging very high amount to repair. Seems there should be a recall provided by GMC to fix this problem as prevents being able to secure the vehicle and belongings and occupants of the vehicle.

The entire lock of the driver side door fell inside the door when I tried to unlock my door. First I tried to fix the problem myself, but simply could not repair the problem. However, I researched the issue online and saw that many, many others have encountered the same problem before with this model. Naturally, because I would like to be able to lock my car door, I took it in and had it fixed for $160. The customer service rep just smirked when I told him what happened and said that we must've pushed the key in too hard "or something like that". I was not happy about the cost, but I paid. However, just two weeks later, the same problem occurred with the passenger side door, which I rarely unlock with the key. Apparently the dealer does not know what causes the problem. Fortunately I was able to fix it myself this time but had to take the door apart, but it was time consuming. It is vexing to me that Chevrolet must realize there is a problem, but does not seem to want to fix it.
The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact stated that as she removed her foot from the brakes in an attempt to leave a traffic stop, the vehicle suddenly accelerated. The failure recurred intermittently. The contact stated that prior to the acceleration failure, the cruise control was activated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technicians were unable to diagnose the failure and advised that the failure may have been caused by the floor mats. In addition, the electronic door locks were inoperable and was erratic. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 28,000. The VIN was not available.

2006 chevy Aveo with app. 82,000 miles. Lock on driver's side fell in, cannot lock the door.
This morning I walked out to my car and found the lock to my car was punched into the driver side door.
The locking mechanism on my 2005 Chevrolet Aveo has been getting stuck. It does not open manually, it will not unlock with the key inserted on the door, nor will it unlock when I am inside the vehicle. The only way to open my door is with the remote. I fear that in the event of an emergency I will not be able to exit my vehicle in time. There is also the fear that I may become stranded because the batteries in the remote has died and I will be unable to open the door even though I have my keys.
Present problem:
2008 Chevrolet Aveo
on 09/30/2009, I cut a finger on my left hand trying to open the door to get out of my car. A break in silver coating material on handle was what caused the cut. I was the driver of the vehicle, so that you will know the bad handles will be on the left side of the car. Either the driver or the passenger behind the driver, as these two handles are probably formed in the same type mold. My finger was bleeding and stinging in cut area. I have had to tape the handle of the car to use it to get out now. Cut came as total surprise. Are other people driving this car getting their fingers cut too?.

The lock cylinder fell into the driver side door. Also the inside lock peg fell in too. Now I can't open my door from the inside.
This morning at work, I got out of my 2005 chevy Aveo and shut the driver's side door as usual. I heard a "plink" noise, and discovered the door lock had collapsed into the inside of the door. I don't see any recalls on it, but I can't help but wonder if any other Aveo owners have had this experience.
While driving down highway I heard a clunk in my driver side door. When I got to my work and got out to lock the door, the lock hole was empty.
There are no events leading up to this problem. The lock on the driver's side door has fallen into the door. This makes the door impossible to lock or unlock from the outside. When the window is rolled down the lock also locks. The problem has not yet been solved.
