My key is stuck in the ignition and doest shut off to take the key out. I had to take the battery cable off so it wouldnt die. I looked up on the web why it would do this and alot of people complained that it happens in 2009 and 10 Aveo cars. If thats the case why hasnt chevy done a recall on it.

The key comes out of the ignition even while the car is running and driving. I drove the car and thought I turned it off all the way - turns out there was another 'click' to turn the engine completely off. Engine also clicks after being turned off. Headlights went out, replaced bulbs only to realize the connectors were melted, bulbs being blown are not the cause of this issue. After doing research into the problem I came across recalls for this year, make model I came across a recall from 2014 (documents on this site) that said all 2008 chevy Aveo's were affected. I purchased the car from a used car dealership in may, 2014 - I don't believe this car should have been sold given the issues and recall notices out at the time. I only found out this week (sept 2016) about the issues. However when calling gm and a chevy dealership I was told there are no open recalls on this vehicle even though the issue can cause fires. This is a problem! the car goes into bryner Chevrolet tomorrow sept 29, 2016 for a service appointment.

The contact owned a 2007 Chevrolet Aveo. While making a turn at 20 mph, the steering wheel locked up and caused the vehicle to spin out of control. The contact crashed into an oncoming vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. The police was called to the scene and a police report was filed. The contact was uninjured; however, the pregnant driver of the other vehicle sustained injuries that required medical attention. The contact's vehicle was destroyed and towed to a tow yard. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 126,859.
Driving home from work, stopped at a store in a parking lot, car ignition would not turn off, could not get car keys out of ignition. Drove to a dealership, who said the ignition needed to be replaced because it was shifting. Said it would cost 4 to 5 hundred dollars, did not have it fixed. But since then, it has been difficult at times to get the car to turn on, or if turned off, hard to get keys out. A valet could not get it to turn off and when he finally did, could not get the keys out,so he left them in my car. I think this has something to do with the gm faulty ignition switches.
After starting car, I was unable to gisengage the car from the parking position. Was only able to get car out the park position by jamming a metal device into the manual shift lock release position. Ended having car towed to mechanic who diagnosed problem as needing a new fuse box. However, after first drive home, back yo original problem: cannot remove key from ignition and if I do drive, electrical power goes out.
I fell asleep at the wheel went through the median while driving down the interstate where the speed limit is 80 outside douglas wyoming. As I woke when the car was in the middle of the median my car impacted a concrete culvert and went through the guard rail onto the other side of the interstate where it finally can to a stop across the other two lanes of on coming traffic all with no air bag deployment.
2005 and 2006 Chevrolet Aveo the steering area was heating up. The consumer was informed the parts were not available.
This is the second time I could not shift my car out of park. I paid lait of money and had it fixed almost two years ago. When I went to take my daughter to school this morning of course it happened again. I can not afford to keep fixing a part that I did not break. So right now I have to use the shift release button until Chevrolet realizes they have an issue. A recall needs to be made. I have only had the car 6 years. I got it brand new. These problems should not be happening. Thank you, rachel burlington, new jersey.
As a father I am writing this on behalf of my 18yr old daughter. This vehicle has lost steering, brakes and acceleration 3 times over 2 years of ownership. Each time has been at low speeds (2mph - 10mph) while driving at low speeds in traffic, the Aveo will loose the ability to accelerate, no matter how far the gas pedal is pushed down. The brakes only work slightly, and the pedal is hard push down. The steering is very unresponsive, similar to the brake issue it's hard to steer. While the above 3 issues happen at once, the engine is at idle. To fix, she has to turn the car off and restart.
The 2010 Chevrolet Aveo worked fine on 8/13/14. Drove it all day long with no issues, parked it while shopping for 1 hour. Car did not start when I came out to leave. Paid $125 get it towed to nightingale's auto tech & repair (12331 31 mile rd, romeo, mi 48065. 586-752-4514) approx 18 miles away, on 8/14/14. Nightingale's found blown 2amp ignition fuse (under hood) charged us $79. 18 & told us to take it to the dealership because they did not have the ability to fix it any further (on 8/15/14). We drove it to buy 2 amp fuses at a auto parts store 1 block away in case it happened again, which it did & we replaced the 2amp fuse again. We drove the car straight to the heidebreicht dealership a couple miles away & the fuse blew again trying to get it into the dealership service dept. , on 8/15/14. Today is 8/26/14, and the car is still at heidebreict's service dept, they do not know what the problem is. The service rep, chris, has told us over several phone calls that they couldn't find the problem & had to to call gm for consult. Chris c. Told me that gm recommended the tech should install 4 separate fuses just to troubleshoot, & I had to pay for that to find the problem. At this point, gm & the tech determined that the digital instrument panel was bad & the dealership ordered a new one. The dealership told me that my cost so far would be over $1360. They tried the new instrument panel& it did not correct the problem (fuses still blowing). On 8/26/14, heidebreicht's told me that gm told them to order another instrument panel & if that didn't work, then gm was going to send their engineers out to help them fix the problem. Our car has been down for this problem for 13 days now & there is no resolution yet, even from gm engineers. Are there any recalls, TSB's or anything on file for this issue? is it related to the huge ignition switch recall?. Gm should pay for this!!!.
My daughter brought a 2011 chevy Aveo in wisconsin. When she came back home there were several occasions that I used her car. The first time I drove her car I drove it to work. While I was driving at 55mph the car jerked very hard to the left. I had to really hold the steering wheel harder than usual to gain control of the car. I called my daughter and asked her about the car jerking towards incoming traffic. My daughter stated that the car did jerk sometimes. I told my daughter to go get the car checked out. I told her to have them check the jerking out and why the car was wearing out tires so fast. My daughter had the car checked and she was told her car couldn't be aligned. My mom, my other daughter, her father, step father and myself drove the car at different times and the jerked while each of us drove it. Unfortunately my daughter lost her life in an accident in that same chevy Aveo in 2014. I was told to come to the hospital because there was an accident on August 1 at 11:45. When I arrived at the hospital the corner and the state trooper met me in a waiting room. They explained to me that my daughter passed away in the car accident she was involved in. She had crossed over the median line and on the shoulder. She tried to correct herself and get back in her lane and was hit on the driver side and killed instantly. When they told me that I knew that the car had jerked on her again and this time cost my daughter her life. Yes it was foggy and damp from the rain that evening. The police stated that a tire was slick and the road was wet. I was very glad that she was talking to her friend that night. Her friend was the one who called the police when she heard my daughter scream an the line went dead. I just want someone to know that something was wrong with that car. I looked online and found people who had the same problem with there Aveo's as well.

Driving at about 35 mph and the car shut down. No power steering, no brakes and no throttle response. Had to use the emergency brake to get it slowed down and stopped. Took it to the dealer and they required a $100 fee to even look at it because it is a year newer than the ones on recall.

Driving 45 mph car suddently shuts off coast to side of highway very dificult to steer waited 5 to 10 minutes restarted car and drove home.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact stated that while traveling approximately 10 mph, the steering wheel seized. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 26,000.
As I began to accelerate onto the highway, I felt that my car was not picking up, I could only get to around 40-45mph on a highway that is 65mph. I nearly got rear-ended by cars flying up on me and I quickly pulled off to the shoulder just in time as the power steering also went out and the car appeared to have stopped running. I could not get the car to start again. The diagnostics came back that the timing belt had gone and it could be fixed for anywhere between $800 to needing a brand new motor. This floored me as I always had the oil and fluids replaced and the car only had 84k miles on it. I began to research the Aveo and bam, there it was, over and over again on-line. Owners all complaining of the same problem with their Aveo. The timing belt on the Aveo, especially the 04-07 models go and will require anywhere from a major fix to a brand new engine. This is a big problem on a little car. I went on craigslist to look for a new engine, but instead found 10 Aveos in one hour. . . That were being sold for parts because their timing belt went! please take a look at this problem, I believe there is a major problem with the Aveo deserving of a recall, and owners should be made aware of this serious problem and the persistent need to have their timing belt replaced or face a total engine replacement. I could have easily been rear-ended or worse because of the loss of power and power steering. Thank you.
In March the vehicle shut completely down and the fan belt popped and wrap around the motor and had damaged the timer belt. Two months later the vehicle was driven to the post office and when cranking it up to leave it wouldn't start because it had shut down again. September 27, 2013 the vehicle shut down the steering wheel locked up and couldn't be guided and ran into a fire hydrant.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact stated while driving 20 mph she lost control of the vehicle as it began to swerve independently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and was informed that a bolt was missing from the lower control arm. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified but offered no answers or assistance. The failure and current mileage was 68,762. Dt.
12-1-12 purchased vehicle from john l sullivan, the vehicle had a slight pull and sale person said it was just the low tire. While filling out paperwork and finance docs vehicle was detailed and tire was adjusted. We had the finance people put an extra clause in about the tire and the issue being fixed. 1/3/13- car goes in because of it pulling and tire light on- they said it was just because the detail person over filled all of the tires. Because of medical surgeries I was unable to drive the car from time of purchase until January 29, 2013. I gave it a month just because I was going from an SUV to this small car and I kept thinking that it was just the difference in cars. Then I decided no there is something wrong with this car. 3/2/13 back to john sullivan for pulling and whistle noise. Shop cross rotated tires and did alignment and said car was all fixed. 3/18/13- took car back same thing car pulls at 60-65 feels like the front and back are fighting against each other. Sullivan replaced tire and forced alignment(no where on the invoice can I find that they replaced the tire but per eric they did) 3/25/13- car back to sullivan same thing, put a shim in and aligned again. (during this visit a scratch and a dent occurred while they had vehicle) 3/29/13- looked at dent and said they did it to bring car in on 4/2/13 for repairs I also advised that the car is still doing the same thing pulling. 4/2/13- car back fixed paint and two or three people test drove car and yes the car is pulling but that's just because the car is small and it's just how the Aveo drives. Bottom line I am being told is even though several attempts to repair a chevy Aveo is just a vehicle that pulls against itself while driving down the freeway.
The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact stated while driving at 35 mph the steering wheel became difficult to turn and the vehicle veered to the right and went into an embankment. The contact also stated that three of the tires became detached from the wheels and the air bag did not deploy. The contact sustained injuries to the neck, forehead, and back and the contact was taken to the hospital by an ambulance. The police was at the scene and filed a report. The vehicle was destroyed. The approximate failure mileage was 24,000.
When turning vehicle all the way to left or right brakes fail to operate correctly. The brake pedal becomes hard and gives you less than 10% braking function. Is not intermittent, it happens every time vehicle is turned completely to left or right and the brake is applied.
The car key will not turn on. I have to reenter the key and turn the steering wheel back and forth to get the key to turn on. Then once I get the car running it falls dead while I'm driving it. I have had my car towed twice because I could not get the key to turn on, this a daily problem and a very dangerous one. If the car continues to turn off in the middle of traffic some one could hurt very bad or killed. ,.
The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph with the cruise control activated, the steering wheel seized and became difficult to maneuver. The contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a mailbox as a result of the failure. The police appeared on the scene and a report was filed. The vehicle was then taken to an authorized dealer for a diagnostic test. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.
At a stop the car was put in park, ignition switch turned off and the key would not come out. Started the car again and could not move the shifter out of park. Vehicle was taken to the dealership. Ignition lock module was not sending signal. It was not grounding out as designed. Module was replaced. There was still no change in resolving the problem. Tested shifter and found internal failure of module. The entire shifter module and assembly was replaced.
After buying my car brand new the air bag light went on and stayed on till this day. At the beginning I thought it was only the passenger air bag and went and asked about it at the dealership where they actually informed me that it wasn't only the passenger airbag thats not working, rather none of the airbags work. That was made clear a month later when my dad, grandmother, and brother were driving it and got t-boned by a truck and of course non of the airbags went off. I mean getting tboned by a truck is pretty serious thing where air bags should deploy! the Aveo is not the safest car to start out with but to also have zero airbags thats pretty messed up, pretty much a death waiting to happen, because lets be real here, I stand no chance if I get in an accident in that car. Might as well no have seat belts on there either. When contacted the dealership more than once they have nothing to say other than pay us and well look into it then you'll pay us more. I will never buy another Chevrolet car again.
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact stated while driving 75 mph, the vehicle started to pull to the right abnormally the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer twice for a wheel and steering alignment but none of the repairs remedied the steering issue. The contact stated that the vehicle was becoming unsafe to drive and the failure could potentially cause a crash. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 607. Updated 01/14/lj.
On my 2009 Chevrolet Aveo5: the frame is not properly made (straight). A private repair facility and local dealership have concluded the same, and that it is not repairable. A certain part of the frame near the front end was improperly produced, causing the front end suspension to be unable to perform with reasonable function, and front tires to be unable to be placed on the vehicle properly for suitable control of the vehicle. This causes excessive tire wear, uneven tire wear, and an unreasonably low level of handling control. Beginning mileage 000 because it was made this way, and current mileage is approximately 21500. The vehicle cannot be aligned into any published specifications. There are no published factory specifications for the front-end alignment, which indicates this problem may have been known by the manufacturer since production. The inadequate level of control and excessive amount of uneven tire wear present safety problems in handling, tire failure and possible rollover. This appears to be a consistent problem with the model of the car as a whole, and closer investigation will probably reveal a large number of crashes, injuries, and fatalities sourced directly to improperly placed frame components that are causing the lack of control in combination with tire instability. My 2009 chevy Aveo is currently in my possession. The problem has been acknowledged and deemed not repairable by both the private repair facility and dealership. Both have also been confirmed it is not possible to align the car within any published specifications. A case is currently open with the manufacturer on my car, and so far, appears to be progressing properly towards resolution. However, I strongly urge investigation to avoid unnecessary crashes, injuries, and fatalities. Incident date is date problem first identified, but again, the car was made this way, and various symptoms have been present for the life of the car.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact stated that the check engine warning light would illuminate and the vehicle would began to abnormally jerk forward. The vehicle would stall momentarily before independently restarting. In addition, there was an unusual increase in engine rpms. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic where the contact was advised that the throttle body would need to be replaced. The vehicle will be repaired. The failure and current mileages were approximately 54,000.
Have now replaced front wheel bearings twice on my Aveo.
