general problems of the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

I have a 2000 chevy Blazer door have a problem with the door hinge where its to weak to handle the weight door I now have cracks in the metal at the striker plate and fear the door will rip the striker plate off I have found out that this is common and fear that thedoor will come open on its own I had called gm about this and they say its not a safety thing.
