The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

41 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2024

On multiple occasions, my 2020 Chevrolet Blazer rs has failed to recognize when it is shifted into the "park" gear. When this occurs, a "shift to park" message appears on the dashboard, and the vehicle's electronics will not shut down, preventing me from turning off and locking the vehicle. This defect presents several critical safety hazards: inability to secure vehicle: the engine/electronics remain active, preventing the vehicle from being turned off and secured. This could drain the battery, leaving me stranded, or make the vehicle a target for theft. Driver distraction: the warning message has appeared randomly while the vehicle is in motion, creating a serious and unexpected distraction for the driver. Potential rollaway risk: this failure in the system that confirms the vehicle is in park could lead a driver to exit the vehicle believing it is secure when it is not, creating a potential for a vehicle rollaway. On 05/02/2024, I had the vehicle serviced for this specific issue. The dealer replaced the transmission shifter and control assembly at my expense, refusing to cover it under the powertrain warranty. The manufacturer (general motors) is aware of this widespread defect and has issued technical service bulletins (TSB #mc-10199243-9999) about it, yet they fail to treat it as the serious safety issue it is. This component failure should be investigated for a formal safety recall before it leads to an accident, injury, or death.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2024

This vehicle is currently on its third radiator since it was purchased, 4 years ago. That’s almost 1 radiator per year. The vehicle also has transmission issues on the highway. The dealer replaced the torque converter but vehicle is still hesitant and bucking on the highway. This vehicle only has 64,000 km and would cost thousands in repairs if it wasn’t under warranty.

43 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2024

Intermittent shift to park message displayed while vehicle in park. I am seeing an intermittent shift to park message when the vehicle has been shifted into park, and the ignition has been turned to the off position. My car model is a push-to-start/stop ignition type and this issue prevents me from turning off the car at times. I am having the vehicle serviced currently at my local Chevrolet dealership but being subject to a diagnostic fee of $175. A message shows up on the instrument cluster screen stating "shift to park," however, the shifter is already in the park position. Potential cause: the cause of the condition may be that the park switch in the transmission control (shifter) assembly is not pulling the bcm signal low to electronically show that the vehicle is in the park position.

44 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2024

Steering assist reduced warning came on as I was driving. Electric steering module has gone bad. Temp gage and ac stopped working as well. No accident yet but this is a known safety defect that needs to have a recall. The steering wheel could lock up. Force gm to recall this vechile before people die!!.

45 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2024

Transmission issue, computer repair, constant issues.

46 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2024

Continues "reduced steering assistance', thermostat won't register, stay on cold, a/c blows warm air. We added coolant, replaced battery. Code goes off, within a few weeks comes back on. About to replace the whole thermostat and sensor. Many many Blazers having the same issues.

47 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2024

As I was driving, my engine coolant temperature gauge went from normal level down all the way pegged to c. Message appears on my dashboard "steering assist is reduced. Drive with care". Also, radiator fan continuously runs as if the air conditioner was turned on, which it was not. After searching the internet and confirmed by dealerships and the shop I had my car repaired, this same issue with the coolant temp sensor and thermostat is a very common occurrence on these generation chevy Blazers. It just amazes me and disappoints me that this type of failure on a car happens as soon as 70,000 miles. Should last for much much longer before this type of failure happens.

48 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2024

Received error code p0021 "a" camshaft position timing is over-advanced in bank 2 of the engine" occured 3 times before taking it into dealer. Chevrolet dealership agreed and it was covered under powertrain warranty.

49 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2023

When placed in park the dic will intermittenly indicate "shift to park". At that point, I am not certain whether or not the vehicle is in park. It will often go into accessory mode when this happens. I cannot turn the vehicle completely off at this point. I need to shift it from park to reverse or drive and then back into park. It may take several attempts for it to register that the vehicle is actually in park. The problem is occurring more and more frequently over time. I am about to take it to the dealer for repairs. I believe this is a common problem with many gm vehicles and they ought to fix it under a recall notice.

50 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2023

I'm getting a "shift to park" error message. Lights and dinging sound will not turn off during this. I have to restart the car and shift the car from park, neutral, drive and reverse. It takes sometimes numerous tries to get it to show in park. The problem is getting worse as time goes on. More frequent and harder to get to go into park.

51 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2023

Unknown car will not shift into park without me having to re-shift to park and then the vehicle will shut off after re-shifting.

52 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2023

The contact's wife owns a 2020 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated that on several occasions when the park position was selected, a ' place vehicle in park' message appeared. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000.

53 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2023

My 2020 chevy Blazer began demonstrating possible problems with the transmission in November 2021 which have continued to date. The rpms will rapidly increase and the car will feel as if it is jolting forward. If driving below 20 mphs, when I try to accelerate to a higher speed, the car will drag and then skip forward. I have videos showing this and have taken it to the dealership on two occasions but it couldn't be replicated and no codes show during diagnositics. The car is currently being repaired (at the dealership since 3/18/22) due to 3 separate concerns that are CO-occuring which seems quite strange to me. The thermostat has gone bad, causing my check engine light to come on while driving (and having to have it towed). The car is also not recognize my remote key to operate the car. I am also getting "steering assist reduced" notifications while driving. I had the battery replaced 3 weeks ago because that was felt to be the cause of the steering assist notice, but after 1 week the notices started occurring again. I will also occasionally get "ecm" notices while driving. I don't see how all of this could be happening at the same time and it not be indicative of a more major powertrain issue. I do not feel safe driving the car, even when these separate issues are repaired because I am fearful of the core, underlying cause.

54 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2023

Transmission skips while driving, there’s some sort of glitch with the electrical that causes the steering assist to shut down and the fan to over work, like it would if it were over heating but the temp of normal.

55 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2022

Shifter will not fully engage park. Vehicle can be shut off while not in park.

56 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2022

I pulled in my driveway which is on a slight incline. I turned the vehicle off but the transmission was still in drive. Not realizing this I stepped out of the vehicle and the vehicle started rolling back down my driveway across the sidewalk and into the street. Had there been anyone walking on the sidewalk the vehicle would have hit them or there could have been an accident in the street. I called the dealership where I got the car and and all they could offer was that you’re not supposed to turn off the car in drive. I know you’re not supposed to turn the vehicle off in drive but it happens and has happened several times to me and I’m sure to others also. I think this is a major design flaw as I have seen that on Ford vehicles when you turn the vehicle off in drive the transmission automatically goes into park.

57 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2022

My vehicle idiot lights were flashing and the car felt as if it was going to stall on the road. Dealer said it was a faulty p6. Now when driving the car the entertainment unit locked up. Radio could not be changed, volume lowered. Pedals on steering column don't work. Even when car was shut off the radio still played and would cut off. Called my dealership. The earliest my chevy dealer can look at it is next week.

58 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2022

The vehicle drops to low gear without warning (check engine light comes on). Causing speed to drop to less than 20mph max.

59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2022

Shift to park displays despite being in park. I cannot turn off the car or lock the doors.

60 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2022

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? multiple components in the engine timing and transmission system have failed. These include: camshaft actuator solenoid valve failed twice (at ~30,000 and ~60,000 miles), each time with different dtc codes. Camshaft positioning sensor failed, triggering p0024 (“timing advanced and bouncing around”). Timing chain tensioner spring failed, requiring re-timing. Camshaft carrier case gasket experienced a major oil leak at 59,000 miles. Thermostat failed. Battery was replaced, but no diagnostic testing was performed—only code clearing. At 82,000 miles: torque converter has failed, transmission fluid is tarnished, and the radiator is leaking internally. Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection upon request and has been registered as non-operational. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the vehicle exhibited repeated hesitation, delays when accelerating, and revving while braking. In stop-and-go traffic, it now sputters as if it may stall. These behaviors create unsafe driving conditions, especially at intersections and in congested areas, putting both myself and other drivers at risk. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes. The torque converter failure and transmission issues were confirmed by national transmission in long beach, CA. Prior component failures were confirmed by martin Chevrolet, who performed both camshaft actuator solenoid valve replacements under warranty. Multiple dtc codes were recorded and cleared, but no electrical testing was performed. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? the vehicle has been serviced by authorized gm dealerships, but gm did not escalate the issue to their tac (technical assistance center) or assign a field engineer, in violation of gm's internal escalation policy. No inspections.

61 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2021

The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated that after driving into the garage the engine was turn off but the transmission was left in the drive position. After exiting the vehicle moments later the vehicle began to roll backwards out of the garage. The contact immediately attempted to stop the vehicle from rolling into the neighbors home by grabbing the driver side mirror. The contact was able to prevent the crash from occurring but in the process had sustained injuries to the left shoulder, neck and back and both the left and right hip and knees which required medical treatment. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer was notified of the incident but no assistance was offered. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 4,400.

62 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/20/1988

"I was in extreme danger while traveling with my [xxx] child in the vehicle on the day prior to the total failure. During that trip, the transmission began to slip significantly in active traffic, creating a terrifying loss of motive power and a high risk of a rear-end collision. Because of this dangerous incident, I attempted to reach the dealership the following morning to prevent a crash. Upon arrival, the transmission suffered a total catastrophic failure in the dealership lot. Had this final failure occurred just 24 hours earlier while my child was in the vehicle on the highway, the situation could have been fatal. The vehicle is currently inoperable due to the 'check ball' metallurgical defect (ro #xxx). Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
