2020 Chevrolet bolt. Consumer writes in regards to safety recall related to battery fires.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Bolt Ev. The contact stated while driving 55 mph, the vehicle inadvertently stalled. The warning message " emergency power failure, seek service immediately" appeared on the instrument panel. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. The contact stated he was unable to restart the vehicle and had the vehicle towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed that the battery disconnect lever had failed. The contact stated the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified the failure and offered the contact a vehicle buy back. The approximate failure mileage was 2,700.

The contact owned a 2019 Chevrolet Bolt Ev. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked in the garage on the charger when the contact heard the vehicle's horn. The contact entered the garage and saw white smoke coming from underneath the rear of the vehicle. The contact was able to unplug the vehicle. The contact’s son called 911. The contact stated that when the fire department arrived at his home the passenger rear on fire. The fire department extinguished the fire. A fire department report was filed. The contact was treated for smoke inhalation. Additionally, while the contact’s wife was attempting to exit the residence, she broke three toes and was taken to urgent care the following day. The fire department inspected the vehicle but was unsure if the fire was due to the battery. The insurance company had the vehicle towed from the residence and deemed the vehicle a total loss. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 27,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Bolt Ev. The contact stated after an unknown software update was completed on the vehicle, the vehicle would overcharge and no longer shutdown while fully charged. The contact also stated that the vehicle would send an incorrect battery level to the charger, causing the charger to continue to charge the battery though already fully charged. The contact stated that the battery icon would show that the battery was fully charged however, the battery light would flash four times indicating a significantly low battery.
