1 Air Bag problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 03/05/2026

Issue: total failure of frontview camera adas sensor, disabling automatic emergency braking (aeb), front pedestrian braking, and lane keep assist. Technical evidence: gds2 telemetry confirms a "no communication" status for the camera hardware. Core safety modules including the electronic brake control (ebcm) and the inflatable restraint (airbag) sensing module report active communication failures (dtc u026a/u216a). These safety-critical modules are currently unable to receive the sensor data required for crash avoidance and occupant protection. Forensic timeline: vehicle nvram reveals a manual "clear codes" event occurred at 46,838. 3 miles—exactly 0. 4 miles after the sale contract was signed. The fault reappeared with a 0 km offset (immediate return) and has been active for 162 ignition cycles, proving the defect existed throughout the dealership's possession. Dealer response: the selling dealer delivered the vehicle with an unsigned 125-point inspection. Despite being presented with gds2 telemetry proof of the braking and airbag communication blackout, management refused repair, mischaracterizing the disabled emergency braking system as a "luxury feature" and claiming the vehicle is "safe" to drive. Symptoms: "service front camera" warning, intermittent loss of hvac controls, and gear display (prndl) blackout due to systemic serial data bus interference caused by the hardware failure.

Failure Date: 02/09/2026

3 Air Bag problem of the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 09/09/2025

I was was traveling at 68 mph, then rear ended and pushed into the center divide. The entire front drivers tire + assembly was destroyed. The airbags didn't deploy. The cab did fill with a white 'smoke'. A little bit later I received a message from the chevy app that there was a problem with my airbags and I should seek service. My insurance has deemed the car a total loss and picked up the car and taken it to their lot for inspection. I don't know the status of this and the incident has not been reported to the manufacturer/dealer.

4 Air Bag problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 09/27/2024

I own a 2023 chevy Bolt Ev. Around 9/27/24 at 5,144 miles, the vehicle began experiencing serious electrical and propulsion issues. It has been to the dealership six times, each requiring a tow due to total loss of function. Issues include blown fuses, charging failures, shifting problems, propulsion loss, and repeated warning messages. Repairs have involved fuse box replacements, a new wiring harness, and other electrical components. The car has spent over 100 hours inactive at the dealership. Problems have been confirmed by technicians, but persist despite repairs. Additional safety concerns include a defective impact sensor, airbag warning lights, and a burned-out headlamp. These compromise crash readiness and visibility. Due to ongoing issues, the vehicle has been parked and unused for months, as it is unsafe and unreliable to drive. The manufacturer has not inspected the vehicle. Based on repeated failures and unresolved safety risks, I believe this vehicle qualifies as a lemon and request further investigation.

12 Air Bag problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 11/01/2023

When driving sometimes the airbag indicator light on the dash will turn on. Turning the car off and on will clear the light and it may not return for multiple drives. It's hard to replicate, but seems to happen while driving for a while. The car does not offer any other indication about the airbag's safety so I don't know if it is a faulty airbag system or a faulty indicator.

21 Air Bag problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 11/10/2021

I was slowly pulling into a parking lot with my Bolt Ev 2020, the car accelerated uncontrollably and in a split second had collided into the wall in front of me. A section of the wall had broken and the car was wedged in the broken section of wall. This is how it came to a stop. The acceleration was so sudden and uncontrollable that even slamming my feet against the brakes did not help slow down and avert the accident. It is notable that the air bags did not engage during this accident. This wall adjoined an apartment complex and a commercial property. It was fortunate that nobody was affected expect for damage to property. But the collision could have easily caused damage to lives had there been people on the apartment complex side of property. I also had a minor less 10 years old in my car who could have been potentially affected. On reading online, I came to notice two recalls on the vehicle. One of them about the floor mats and possible acceleration as the one described by me seems related. I was not notified by Chevrolet about this recall. I could have removed the floor mats had I known about the additional issue. The only notifications I got were for the battery, for which we have followed the safety pre-cautions prescribed. This incident happened less than 14 hours at the time of writing. A police event has been filled (event 21-34-0195) with the sunnyvale department of public safety. The insurance representatives are yet to inspect the vehicle. There were no warning messages, lamps or other symptoms prior to the failure.

22 Air Bag problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 10/02/2021

I hit a deer on a back road coming home from work, on impact I heard a loud explosion and smelt burning electronics and the smell of an air bag, the seat belt locked. Then after the initial impact the car then stopped and the emergency alarm went of and many messages were on the screen. Fast forward after everything, I call onstar to make ask a question they answered with I see your air bags deployed are you okay, I responded yes because "they didn't come out" the air bag switch did explosion but the air bag did not deploy.

The front passenger received injuries to the right shoulder. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. 24 Air Bag problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 07/31/2019

The left and right sides of the dashboard continue to come loose after multiple fix attempts from the dealer. In the event of an accident, if the airbags fire and the a-pillar trim moves outward the dash parts may be thrown at the car's passengers further injuring them. Gm rep stated there is no fix at this time and all the other bolts on the dealer's lot had the same issue so I would have to continue to drive an unsafe car.
