2 Parking Brake problem of the 2000 Chevrolet C1500

Failure Date: 03/28/2007

Yearly inspection is due. My husband checked parking brake 3 days before taking my pickup in for inspection. It was fine that day. My pickup failed inspection because parking brake would not hold. My husband tested the brake at the inspection center and it went to the firewall and would not hold. We accused the inspector of tampering with the brake. He insists the failure of the parking brake is a common problem with our model. Which is true? if it is a common problem gm should issue a recall and repair the brake at no cost to the consumer.

3 Parking Brake problem of the 2000 Chevrolet C1500

Failure Date: 05/01/2006

Emergency/parking brake shoes worn completely out. 2000 chevy 1500 pickup truck has few miles but dealer refused to fix. Dealers do admit it is a design defect that allows the shoes to rub while vehicle is driven wearing out the shoes. They have a 'redesigned part' for replacement. Since the emergency brakes should never engage while in motion they should last forever and always be functional if emergency/parking brake is needed. The cost to replace was several hundred dollars but that isn't the real issue. The problem is that there are probably millions of vehicles out there with owners that assume the brake is engage and working properly while gm knows there is a problem but apparently is willing to risk lives to prevent a recall. This leave the owners and their children not to mention anyone else near the vehicle at risk of death or injury when the brake is needed and doesn't do it's job.

4 Parking Brake problem of the 2000 Chevrolet C1500

Failure Date: 10/03/2005

State safety inspection- parking brake failure, 158. 24 repair. Parking brake pads. Mechanic told me this is a common problem with Chevrolet and gm pickups of several model years(mine is a 2000) contacted Chevrolet and was told nothing could be done since there was no recall. There is a recall on manual transmission models of this truck. My biggest concern is this problem would not be known by most consumers unless they have a required safety inspection.

5 Parking Brake problem of the 2001 Chevrolet C1500

Failure Date: 01/01/2005

2001 Chevrolet silverado pickup emergency brake failure. Recall doesn't include trucks with automatic transmissions, but they have the same brake systems. My emergency brakes are not working although I have only used them a couple of times in four years. Also, after questioning other people with same trucks they find out that their brakes are not working either.

6 Parking Brake problem of the 2002 Chevrolet C1500

Failure Date: 11/11/2003

I own two 2002 gm products, a tahoe and a silverado pickup. The emergency brakes do not work on either vehicle. I have had to take both to the dealer for repair to get them to pass state inspection. I have contacted five of my friends that own 2002 gm products and three out of the five have the same problem. That is a safety concern and someone needs to investigate this in greater detail.

Emergency brake does not function.

8 Parking Brake problem of the 2000 Chevrolet C1500

Failure Date: 05/02/2002

The consumer states the parking brake doesn't hold when engaged. The service technician at the dealership explained the cable may be the problem but no matter how many tims its adjusted the cable is as tight as it can get. Please add more information.

9 Parking Brake problem of the 2002 Chevrolet C1500

Failure Date: 01/01/2002

Although the truck is rated to tow 9000 lbs the parking brake will not hold my 7000 pound trailer from rolling down the hill forwards or backwards. My 3000 lb boat rolls backwards into the water at a boat launch. The pbrake pedal goes to the floor with little resistance. Two different chevy dealers have seen the truck. The first dealer adjusted the brake and it was better, the second said that there was nothing more that they could do. It still rolls with a trailer on it. The dealers said that the low resistance pbrake is a design feature.

10 Parking Brake problem of the 2001 Chevrolet C1500

Failure Date: 09/15/2001

Vehicle was parked, pressed parking brake and brakes went all the way to the floor. Consumer contacted dealer, and they stated that it was normal. *akthe consumer checked several other gm trucks and found that some of their parking brakes also go to the floor, the consumer is concerned that when adjustment is needed the adjustment rods will have no adjustment left, the consumer believes that the wrong cable length was used either front or rear.
