I just bought a C1500 regular cab short bed truck. I was appalled to find out that the tires are rated at 950 lbs. At max load of 44psi. The trucks dry curb weight is listed at 4142 lbs. And max pay load is 1958. These numbers indicated that the truck Chevrolet supplied is on tires that are not even rated to hold the truck empty! I can't use my truck to haul or carry anything without exceeding the tire manufactures rating. The tires are goodyear wrangler st p235/75r16 (passenger care tires?) I do not think I should drive this truck on these tires. I want gm to replace them with tires that are rated to the capacities of the truck that I bought on the assumptions given in the chevy truck brochures supplied at the dealerships. The tires on the truck are not even lt (light truck) and are a safety issue. This is a copy of what I submitted to the Chevrolet. Com website. I do not fault thorobred Chevrolet dealership for this but do expect some corrective action. This truck was sold to me in an unsafe condition. There has not been an incident thanks for your time please respond ASAP bernie southerland 5313 e. Elena Ave mesa, arizona 85206 home phone 480-832-9271 work phone 480-785-4211.
The front tires on the outer edge are what I call cupping out. I have been to the dealer 4 or 5 times where I purchased the truck and they have acknowledged that I do have a front end problem. They keep telling me it's the alignment causing the abnormal wear but after 5 or 6 alignments you would think something would either correct or the dealership would would tell me what is wrong with the truck. I went to a different dealership in smyrna appx 9 miles from bill heard about 2 weeks after they aligned my truck and they said the truck was out of alignment. I had to pay for this and this was a rep. From the gm factory telling me what to do. As of 12/2/02 ed boggs the rep said their was nothing else that Chevrolet or gm could do. I suggested him give me a truck that was safe to drive or I felt I was safe. Bill heard did admit that the wear on 5 tire rotations on the front end was abnormal but was within specs. I gave them a chance and said if you would write me a letter or statement saying that this wear is normal and is not going to affect the normal wear on this truck I will shut up and let it rest. Wasn't going to happen! the pulled a print out stating they couldn't find nothing wrong with my truck. I in the meantime have checked a few of the newer trucks ive seen in parking lots and noticed about half the trucks have the same kind of problem so I guess im the only one pursuing the problem. I don't have the money to keep sinking into this truck. On the older trucks I've owned the wear im getting on these tires look like shock or suspension problems but they say no way. So I'm back at square one with abnormal tire wear and no answers and really mad. Hopefully you people can help me. Thank you george d. Vest dt.
