Two problems related to alternator/generator/regulator have been reported for the 1997 Chevrolet Camaro. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While driving at various speeds alternator overheated, causing a small fire in the wiring behind the alternator consumer extinguished the fire, and had the vehicle towed. Consumer did not report fire to police or fire department. Also, dealer was not notified.
The alternator has gone bad. Dealer has been notified and will replace the alternator.
