Fuel Pump problem #1

Purchased a 2000 chevy. Camaro with only 50k miles two months ago. Three weeks ago I was finding that it would not start right away when hot and my gas gauge is not working. If the car was left overnight, in the morning it would start fine. The cause is a bad fuel pump, it loses pressure when hot but here is the real problem. The pump and sending unit is in the gas tank and I have to replace it with a gm unit, after market would be stupid and as you read on you will understand why. The fuel pump is $795. 00, the exhaust system and the rear axle/suspension needs to come off to take the tank out. This is 5 hours of work according to my mechanic. It is going to cost over $1,100. 00 to change this pump. There is no sane reason why a fuel pump should fail with only 50k miles on the car the car has never been abused, fact is that the original owner only drove it once a month and he is 58 years old so he does not abuse a car.

Tank Assembly problem #2

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Camaro z28. The contact stated that when trying to refuel, fuel would overflow onto the ground due to a faulty roll-over ball. In order to prevent the malfunction, the fuel could only be dispensed during cool weather temperatures. Two years prior, an authorized dealer replaced the fuel tank and the similar defect recurred. The vehicle had not been repaired for the most recent failure. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000. Updated 03/14/lj updated 03/23/12.
