1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2025

The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was able to be restarted, but the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who determined that the wave plates had fractured and that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired and remained with the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to report the failure to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 155,000.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2019

My transmission not working the car won't move when I put it in gear . At first when I stop at a light or stop sign when getting ready to pull off step on the gas the car won't move it would hesitate then jump into gear.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2019

Manual transmission occasionally seems like it will go into 2nd gear, but does not actually engage. Problem seems relatively random.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2018

^ 6 speed manual transmission, bypass/lockout will not allow correct shift forcing vehicle to hesitate or be become bogged down. Forces you to 4th gear or 6th. In traffic this a hazard while trying to build up speed, for on ramp, merging, passing sometimes car will stall. Only to correct temporarily is pull on side of road and stop put car in reverse then vehicle shifts normal for a slight while. Gm is in denial!!! in motion on highway and city streets.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2015

Vapor began coming in through the air vents, along with a super-sweet smell; this smell was later identified as leaking engine coolant. The front windshield quickly fogged up, beginning on the passenger side, and absolutely would not clear. Using the vehicle's defrost only increased the windshield fogging and severely decreased visibility. Fogging and visibility is worse when the weather is cool or it is raining, and the coolant smell inside the car can make you sick and give you headaches. Fog-free window treatment is ineffective. Taken to the Chevrolet dealership service center, the Camaro has a bad heater core - to fix this extremely hazardous issue, the Camaro's windshield must be taken out along with the dash and seats just to gain access to the heater core. . . At a cost around $2,000 and over a week in the service center. . . Beware this is not covered under chevy's powertrain warranty (the heater core is excluded). This is a very common problem with newer model Camaros and should be a gm recall by now. I was able to pull off the interstate before my visibility was reduced to zero. . . Somebody else may not be so lucky, or may not know what's going on when their windshield begins to fog.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2014

My car began to over heat causing my vehicle to suddenly lose power. Also caused fogged windshield . . The heater core on the Camaro from 2010 - 2013 are having malfunctions causing the car to overheat and or spill boiling liquid onto your passengers feet, if you were to have a passenger start to scream when this burning liquid were to hit their feet while wearing high heels or sandals you can easily get distracted and lose control of you vehicle from just someone screaming out of now where, there are countless stories on the Camaro forum about these heater cores going bad. . Others experience counting fogged windshield which could cause a visibility issue and cause an accident and a vehicle breakdown causing a accident if you brea down in heavy traffic. . . My Camaro is at the dealer now getting diagnosed . But this issue has not been addressed as a recall and should be. .

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2013

Leaving work and the clutch stuck when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear then there was a terrible burning smell and it stalled in the middle of an intersection. Then while I was on the highway driving 65mph I down-shifted from 6th to 5th for upcoming slower traffic and the clutch stuck again and the car starts to stall. Both times I had pressed on the gas thinking the clutch would come out and it didn't so then there was terrible burning smell. I finally got the clutch unstuck both times and proceeded home. It didn't do it while driving to work but my car had been in the garage all night. However, at work my car sits outside all day and it was really cold that day. I notified the dealer first thing in the morning and they are looking at it.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2011

There is a notchiness when shifting into second gear from first under hard acceleration. This results in a second gear grind and I am unable to get into second gear sometimes. Also, occasionally the transmission will pop out of second gear and return to neutral resulting in no acceleration, which is a serious problem when pulling out into traffic. I have read about several people with the same issues as me, especially with grinding second gear, and gm simply needs to fix the issue instead of saying that the transmission is "operating as intended". I have been dreaming of owning a new Camaro since the announcement that it was coming back to market, but it has been a nightmare with transmission issues since day 1 with no fix from the dealer.
