Wheel problem #1

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro. While driving approximately 30 mph, the steering wheel shook violently. In addition, the front driver side wheel detached from the vehicle. There were no warning indicators. The vehicle had to be towed to a independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the front driver side alloy wheel, rubber valve, driver side c-liner, and hub and bearing needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 28,313.

Wheel problem #2

After the first 100 miles of use I always check the wheel lug nuts for proper torque value as per the owners manual and did so on my new 2014 Camaro 2ss, purchased on 23 may 2014. I found all the wheel lug nuts way under torqued at approximately 80 lb ft of torque. , the 2014 Camaro factory owners manual that came with the car stated 110lb ft of torque on each lug nut. Also noted that on each lug nut there appeared to be a special coating material on the mating surface of each nut. Looks & feels like a teflon coating. I always thought that this surface should be free of any lubrication so that when seated against the wheel surface it would be metal to metal with no lubrication required. Could this coating be affecting the wheel lug nut torquing done during the wheel installation at the gm assembly plant?.
