2 Fuel Pump problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 07/15/2008

Purchased a 2000 chevy. Camaro with only 50k miles two months ago. Three weeks ago I was finding that it would not start right away when hot and my gas gauge is not working. If the car was left overnight, in the morning it would start fine. The cause is a bad fuel pump, it loses pressure when hot but here is the real problem. The pump and sending unit is in the gas tank and I have to replace it with a gm unit, after market would be stupid and as you read on you will understand why. The fuel pump is $795. 00, the exhaust system and the rear axle/suspension needs to come off to take the tank out. This is 5 hours of work according to my mechanic. It is going to cost over $1,100. 00 to change this pump. There is no sane reason why a fuel pump should fail with only 50k miles on the car the car has never been abused, fact is that the original owner only drove it once a month and he is 58 years old so he does not abuse a car.

4 Fuel Pump problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 05/14/2006

051406 driving 35 mph when check engine light came on when car lost all acceleration . Car was going downhill and I barely managed to brake and steer it clear into a lot. Towed to dealer. 49,000 miles. Fuel pump needs replacement which I found was way too soon. Cost $1300. Complaint is too soon for a replacement and more important was the heavy non responding steering and non responding braking. Very very lucky other cars were clear.

7 Fuel Pump problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 07/17/2004

My baby, a 2001 Camaro convertible, 6 cylinder, has had three fuel system issues. I just saw the recall for 2012-13 chevy's for fuel system issues and am hoping someone will look into the 2001 and see if this model should have been sent a recall notice. In approx 2004 on way to military conference my car stalled whiled pulling out from gas station. It had been stalling week prior but was thought to be because of bad gas. . . It's final stall was of course on the way to a military function where I shouldn't have been late. It was towed to jeff gordan's chevy, wilmington, nc and approx $1400 later I had a new fuel pump and ?? . Ran great again until approx late 2010 or early 2011. Almost got t-boned doing a turn with incoming traffic when my baby stalled as I was driving to the closest mechanic, firestone on gen booth, va beach 23454 after it had been stalling all week-mileage approx 85,000. Once again was told I needed a new fuel pump, approx $1500 we were good to go again. Now, my check engine light came on and the code that came up was a general code for something with fuel system but they need to drop gas tank once again to be able to correctly diagnose prob. I'm hoping someone will look back at 2001 chevy's and see if a recall should have been listed for that yr also. Sounds like very similar symptoms. 2 fuel pumps in 6 years seems excessive to me and other mechanics thanks for looking into this.
