I haven't had an incident yet. All 4 of my tires are cracked in the same area around the tire. Leading me to believe it is a manufactures defect.

I have had several flat tires on the set of bf goodrich tires on my 2001 Cavalier. The tires have not suffered any road damage, but have instead just dry rotted to the point where they go flat as I am driving. This has happened to me at least 4 times and at one point I was give four brand new bf goodrich tires to compensate for the problems that I have. The problems did not stop there and I have since had several flats that took place as I was driving, which as anyone knows is a horrible time to have a flat tire. The tires are unsafe and may eventually lead to a horrible accident.

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier. The vehicle has yokohama allegiance iv tires, size p19570r14 (na). While driving 65 mph, the vehicle began making rattling noises. The contact was unable to determine the origin of the noise. During deceleration, the tread separated from the tire. He abrubptly stopped and exited the vehicle. He then noticed front end damage and it appeared that the front passenger side tire experienced complete tread separation. He took the tire to the manufacturer for inspection. It appeared as if the tire struck a curb and was not a manufacturer defect. The contact stated that he did not strike any curbs, which made it impossible for the tread to separate so suddenly. He believes this is due to a manufacturer defect in the tire. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 93,836.

The rpm would go to 3000 with the consumer's foot was off of the accelerator. The consumer engaged the clutch and hit the gas pedal and the rpm's went back to normal of 950 rpms. The vehicle had 172 miles and when the consumer checked the tires, they were 24 lbs. The recommended pressure should of been 32 lbs.

On sept 23, 2003 I called the service department at showcase Chevrolet where I bought the Cavalier. Talked to a service advisor about the problem with my vehicle. The car was very hard to handle on groove roads. It felt like the back-end was going one way and the front the other. He said he would look at it, he stated that they put more air in the tires and that should do it. The next day I called and ask to speak to the service manager as the vehicle was worse. Troy (svc. Mgr. ) said he would drive with me. We took the vehicle down the road and it swerved and troy stated to me he felt the problem and was holding on. He told me to take it back as he is not safe in it. He stated that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and that he feels that it is the tie rods. He took the vehicle back to the shop and readjusted the tie rods, rebalanced tires, and stated that he drove the other Cavaliers and all with 14 inch tires had the same problem. I asked him what he could do about this and he stated that the vehicles with 15 inch tires didn't do that and we could buy rims and tires and he feels that should solve the problem. On the third trip to the service dept. He said he couldn't help with the tires as they didn't have any 15 inch rims around and I would have to pay for them. He stated he could not warranty them out as it is an upgrade in the vehicle. I have no way of knowing that putting 15 inch tires on this vehicle will solve the problem. I have contacted gm and they state the vehicle is up to their specifications for that car and they will not do anything to the vehicle or vehicle with 14 inch tires. It was not brought up as an option to me when I bought the vehicle as the gm customer service representative stated. How can they let these cars stay on the road with a problem controlling them on groove roads? the service manager stated that he would not drive this vehicle on the road during rain or snow as you could easily loose controls in the grooves.

When I purchased my car last year ;they told me that they put new tires on my car,but when it rained my car tires would slide in puddles of water;I was frantic. My kids were in the car with me and was screaming and howling because we almost had a accident. So I stopped driving the car until I purchased new tires. I bought tires from wal mart automotive [that was in December]but in feburary I expericenced the same problem except these tires splitted open and I purchased two more tires from walmart and the guy that changed my tire said it's not awannder if I didn't kill myself. . . . But he told me that firestone was recalling these tires and told me about it. So what can I do now I have the tires at homeo.
The service writer first said, "it's out of alignment. " I know better (I've been in the automotive repair business for 21 years). Then he said, "the tire was ran low. " I said it wasn't. Then he said, "you didn't rotate the tires often enough. " then he said (in confidence), "gm uses junk tires. " but they won't warranty the tires. And I have a bumper to bumper warranty. I also know that all chevy astrovans have this very same problem. ( dot number: ?? tire size: p195/65r15 ).
Left tire bone broke in two while driving at 30mph. No previous incident caused excess stress in car structure. Control of the car was lost, but brought to stop in middle of street. Manufacturer contacted. They said this was due to wear and tear in par. However, tires had been inspected by a dealer 3 weeks before. No fisures reported then. Owner feels lucky this didn't happen in a highway. I also feel mad at the unresponsiveness of manufacturer, who apparently regards this part as disposable along with the security and the lives of its customers.
While driving steering was loose, heard a loud sound, entire tire had exploded & flew off rim, damaged/broke rim, none of tires remained, dealer does not know what the problem is. Goodyear tire - p195/65r15. Have invoices.
