Chevrolet C/k Pickups owners have reported 5 problems related to air brake wheel speed sensor (under the air brake category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Normal usage of truck, hot or cold, happens about 20% of the time. When coming to a stop, at about 5mph, the abs turns on and incresses the stoping distance. No damage yet but this weekend I came much too close to hitting a family crossing the street. I have not driven the truck since but after doing some research I have found there is a TSB #634839, for 99-02 silverados with this problem. It states dirty wheel speed sensors or sensors out of range. I will be folowing the directions there to attempt to repair my 98 silverado. I am not positive but I believe gm of canada has already recalled affected models to repair this problem. There is no abs light or codes stored. . Read more...

I have a 1997 Chevrolet silverado truck. Over the last several months I have been experiencing random failure in the anti-lock brakes, they engage in situations where there is no reason to. Recently I viewed a report that your organization is investigating the same problem with 1999 - 2002 models, but the problem in that investigation exactly describes my problem. Since the problem is random, you cannot be prepared when you don't quite stop as fast as expected. My truck is in excellent condition and I cannot expect my son to be able to handle this situation as he is an in-experienced driver. I was going to schedule soon to have it fixed when I viewed the article about a potential recall. I am awaiting to hear your decision and hoping you include earlier models (1997) such as mine if there is a recall.

When attempting to stop at slow speeds, the abs activates increasing the stopping distance and almost causing myself and my wife to rear-end the vehicle in front of us at stop signs or stop lights.

Abs brakes activate at slow speeds.
Problem with abs brakes low-speed activation with brake pedal going all the way to the floor causing foot to hit gas pedal in forward and reverse. This problem is what has called for a recall in canada and newer gm vehicles. When will a recall be issued to fix this safety hazzard in older model pick-up trucks? your site shows gm shows three incidents in 100,000 vehicles, well I personally know more than 3 people in my area who are having this problem. In winter time the brakes actually lock up causing the vehicle to skid. This appears to be more than just a cold weather problem. Every time I drive the vehicle (a 1999 Chevrolet silverado pickup) this happens.
