Tailgate Hinge Problems of Chevrolet C/k Pickups

Was sitting on the tailgate,went to get up, tailgate cables snapped. I fell off with pain to my legs(I have bad knees), and the exterior of the tailgate was damaged by the impact with the bumper.

: the contact stated the driver side tailgate cable has been replaced and fractured a second time. The passenger cable is in the process of fracturing. There is a NHTSA recall, # 06v066000, regarding the tailgate cables. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however, it is not included in the recall due to the VIN.

Tailgate strap broke.

While at a 4th celebration on the tailgate of my american Chevrolet truck my wife and 15 month old little boy, was sitting there and the tailgate cables on my 2003 duramax broke causing my wife and child to hit the ground busting his lip. I only hope the is no teeth damage. Will Chevrolet replace my bent tailgate knowing there is a recall, if they cant make cables fast enough, get-r-done, want my tail gate fixed also and my kids teeth.

12/7/2003 sitting on tailgate of 2002 Chevrolet pickup going down road 12-15 mph both cables snapped at same time releasing the tailgate down and dumping myself and two others onto the county pavement. Truck in excellent condition bought in effingham illinois at dan hecht Chevrolet by tony metter of sigel , IL. Head contusions (major) two other young people were slightly injured, kemper insurance is involved.

I was loading my 2001 chevy silverado z71. When both tail gate supports broke. I fell out of the back of my truck on my head luckily I was just scratched up but my truck was not as lucky I have 1,000 dollars worth of damage.

I run a car dealership and I want to file a complaint about the two cables on Chevrolet full size pickups that secure the tailgate on 99-02 models. I have seen hundreds of these trucks where the cables have failed and broke. There is no way that those cables are strong enough to keep from breaking with a little added weight such as a child or an adult. They are as dangerous of a design as I have ever seen. Plus, I am tired of paying for these cables on every truck that comes in to my lot for resale. They are way to expensive to replace. A cable that should cost $4 or $5 cost over $30. Gm is getting rich on the replacement parts of these cables and they know it. Something needs to be done about this and if you investigate this matter I am 100% sure you will agree too.
