The car was purchased recently (late December, 2013) on a salvage title by my mother. On Saturday, April 12 I was driving on the highway at 60 miles an hour and suddenly the car started decelerating. I pushed the gas peddle but nothing happened- the speed kept dropping. As we slowed to a stop I took the vehicle off the road to the side and parked. A passenger was in the car with me. We waited a few minutes and the Classic started again and drove alright. But the same thing kept happening a few miles down the road (if memory serves, this occurred five times that day). The vehicle had to wait about two to three minutes to start again- turning the key earlier produced a thumping sound inside, a thud-thud-thud sound. I am reluctant to drive the vehicle until it is repaired and I am contacting your agency about the matter because if it does pertain to a safety/parts issue it may be something which could impact other drivers with the same model as well. When cars lose speed suddenly on the highway they can pose a traffic hazard to other vehicles. I contacted the manufacturer to let them know about this issue too. A similar incident happened earlier this month, and at that time we took the car to the shop and the catalytic converter and muffler were both replaced with new equipment.
