I started up my car and it was very hard to turn the wheel easier when I gained speed. The warning said "power steering".
Ignition switch had a previous recall, but now the ignition switch won’t turn the car on on the first 5-10 switches with any keys, or spare keys. Steering wheel shakes/wobbles when exceeding over 50mph.
My husband was driving and the car suddenly stopped taking gas and said reduced engine power. He got it back home as it was only a few miles but top speed was less than 10 mph. It never did run right anymore and then completely stopped a few days later. Also the key gets stuck in the car if the battery goes dead. I had to leave the key in with the window down because I was scared of getting locked out. When my husband was able to come and charge the battery some it released the key. It never had any issues like these until they suddenly started. These issues showed up in summer 2021. Codes mentioned general electrical failure, throttle control issues with pedal and tac module. High and low voltage to tac module.
The 2013 power assist module (due to problems and recall) that was installed in my car back at that time-the warranty expired in 2015--well before I purchased mycar which was 2018. Power steering problems have returned as I cannot drive my car due to lack of power steering-cannot drive even in my driveway. . This, obviously, is a recurring problem and another recall needs to be implemented especially when those of us cannot afford to fix a problem that is the manufacturer's and/or manufacturers' fault. Please help!!!.
Car shuts off and loses power while driving and the key keeps getting stuck in the ignition and the doors keep locking and unlocking constantly until it loses power again after changing the battery.
I got the car a few years ago only drove it for 5 months found out about the recall. I had to pay for the car to go nassau bahamas. They never ship it for me . They paid the ignition repairs never gave me a rental car. Then I called back a few months about a warranty say 60,000 miles or 5 year they tell another recall for the same thing. So I started checking come to find all kinda law suit on that type model. They want the car off the road. I asked them to pay out the car. Can't get a response. They open but the bahamas office closed from covid-19. Still have to wait on a response.
Keys fall out ignition after starting shuts off not moving.
I just noticed that there has been a few recalls on my vehicle and ive done some repairs on it since I have owned it but not on any off the parts that were once recalled. I can almost guarantee that my car was never fixed after the recall was issued because the car still has most of the original parts on it. So if I can get these problems fixed j need to ASAP.
Lines leaking rusted with holes. . . . Should have been coated and not exposed to weather.
Fuel pump module leaks fuel. Vehicle smell of gas. Can cause a fire. When seating still fuel will leak on the ground when car is running or when starting the car.
My cars problem started with the drivers door not opening from the inside or outside. The car stays locked even using the key fob, automatic door lock switch or key. I have to crawl through the passenger side over the console to enter or exit the vehicle. I am worried what I would do if the passenger door does the same thing. This is a safety issue since I can't get out of my car or in it. I searched online and several people had this same complaint.
My chevy Cobalt just stalled in traffic at a dangerous rate of speed on street approaching a stop light the screen in car said engine power reduced then said engine disable. This is very dangerous and very unsafe.
I was driving down the interstate, when my warning light came on, and said "engn pwr reduced" it immediately slowed from 70 mph, to 10 mph and wouldn't rev past 2000 rpm's. The source cannot be found as to why it happened and almost cost me my life on the interstate.
Doors are sticking and not opening from the outside, one door will not open at all, handles breaking and got locked inside the car for 2 hours.
Car was recalled in 2010 for power steering. Previous owner had it fixed. I initially reported back in January 2014 of recurring problem of losing power steering while driving. I was told it was already fixed so I would have to pay out of pocket to fix same problem as the recall. Here it is a year later and I'm still having the same problem with the power steering. The speedometer started flickering back and forth going haywire and there was a weird ticking noise in the area near the gearshift. I had to pull over on the side of the highway and was almost struck by a tractor trailer because the power steering locked up on me and I had my 3 kids in the car. I was told that I needed a new coil pack, it was replaced and it's still doing the same thing. It shakes at red lights and occasionally cuts off. I have to press the pedal to the floor to get it to accelerate which it does but very slowly, and then it just takes off like a rocket and I have no control over it. This is very dangerous!! also my car can switch gears without having to press the brake or the button in the gearshift. I can just simply push the gearshift back and forth without being in the car. While backing out of my driveway my kneecap bumped my keys and my car turned off. There needs to be another recall of the power steering because apparently the replacement parts are faulty as well. Or it could be the faulty wiring altogether in the system. These chevy Cobalts need to be taken off of the streets and owners reimbursed for the car plus all of the trouble and near death experiences that we have to continue to experience on gms behalf. I have read several other complaints about the power steering being fixed and still have the same results as myself. How many people will have to die or another lawsuit presented before there's another recall to have these cars removed permanently off the roads?.
Cobalt lost all power. While reaching for keys to try and restart Cobalt, keys were not in ignition switch and must have fallen out. With no power to steering I kept my left hand on steering wheel and reached to the floor with right hand to try and find keys. At this point in the blink of an eye the car steering was un responsive and Cobalt veered off the road to the right down through a half pipe shaped drainage ditch and did a roller coaster down then up in the air and then slammed back down to ground coming to a stop. In this roller coaster event I was tossed into the inside roof of the Cobalt then with seat belt on pulled/slammed back down into seat on my lower spine then the seat broke loose from its position and slid forward slamming my left knee into the lower dashboard and broke the door where the trunk release is located. Police were called, report taken I was dispatched to hospital via ambulance.
Had no issues all day until all of sudden we were leaving a parking lot. I'm at the stop sign when I went to press the gas to go, I hear a chime - no indication lights come on- car acts like it's going to stall (it doesn't), steering is very hard and a clicking noise is coming from the gear shift area. Do not feel safe driving it all, although it's moveable but very rough/bogging out. Recently had the ignition recall recently, had a few issues pop up since then but nothing as serious as this. Had to get it towed to my mechanic, he replaced a few sensors, but clicking noise still remains and is undriveable.
I brought my 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt to multi Chevrolet in union to have the ignition switch recall completed. They called me and asked "was your check engine light on"? I assured them if my check engine light was on I would have taken the car immediately to my local mechanic. Every since then I have occasionally had the power steering & traction control lights appear on the dashboard. I took the car for an oil change and the power steering light stopped. I have now had a new battery installed and 4 new tires and yesterday January 4, 2015 the car rings and the traction control light comes on. I am terrified to drive this car. I think general motors sold these cars knowing full well they were lemons and dangerous and think they should have to pay monetary damage to everyone they stuck with this death trap.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that the vehicle's door locks have malfunctioned. The contact stated the vehicle door lock will independently unlock and lock in a loop which causes the car alarm to function. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was not diagnoised. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The vehicle mileage was approximately 65,000. Kh.
I just had my recalled ignition switch changed with the new ignition switch. However, it is causing new problems. I am having problems shutting off my car. Sometimes the ignition switch gets stuck and I can not move my key to turn off the car. It is scary when you can not move your key and turn off your car. I went back to the dealer and they changed the keys and adjusted the ignition switch but it is still causing problems. When it gets stuck I have to constantly jiggle the key and sometimes it takes over 20 minutes to get it unstuck and to turn off my car. I am very disappointed.
I have just recently bought a used 2005 chevy Cobalt. I was unaware of the recalls on it, until later. Now, I have a car payment and am unable to drive my car. I was on my way to town, on a paved two-lane highway, traveling around 55mph. When (for no reason) my car just quits/dies, as I am going up a hill. There were vehicles behind me that almost hit me. When it quit, I had to struggle to get my car to the side of the road. I could not get it completely off the road. I turned my hazard lights on and began trying to crank my car. It took more than 20mins. , to get it started back up, but, when it did, it was skipping so bad, I still could not move it. I turned it off and began trying to crank it, once more. It took another 15 minutes to get it to run well enough to pull the rest of the way off of the pavement. I was almost struck/hit many times by passing vehicles. This has happened to me 3 more times. Now, I can't even get my car to the end of my driveway before it quits/dies. The parts I need to fix my car have been ordered thru maxie price Chevrolet in loganville, GA since June 14, 2014. I was told it would only take 1-2 weeks for the parts to get to this car dealership, so they could be replaced. I have not heard from anyone about my parts and cannot get anyone to help me. I am not driving my car because it is just to dangerous. So now I am stuck with a car payment and a car that is unsafe to drive. I don't understand why it is taking so long to get parts and why someone won't help me. I was under the impression that a recall was top priority. Are there more problems that I am unaware of or is someone just stalling??? I need a car!!! how can I get a loaner until my car is fixed????.
Recall notice was sent out by gm in March, 2014 stating our cars need to be fixed but the parts are not available but, all owners will be getting an addiiotnal letter in April to inform us to call our local dealer to have our cars fixed. Finally we did get our letters on 4-21-14 and called my local dealer to make an appointment to have my recall fix and was told "chevy did not send us any parts yet. ".
This happens to me on different occasions I when I park my car or stop driving I try to shut my car off and I cannot my key will be stuck in the ignition and still running for about up to 30 mins my last time this problem happened to me. My other problem I am having is I can start my car perfectly fine but I try to shift the gear from park to drive and I cannot its like its stuck I put my foot on the gas and try to shift it but all I hear is a clicking noise coming from the steering wheel area sometimes I have to sit with the car running for about 15-20 mins until I can finally get the car in drive.
I was getting off an exit off the highway and my car just shut off. Sometimes also when I'm driving the key if touched turns the car off while driving. No accident because people avoided me had there been an accident I would have been seriously hurt and I am afraid everytime I drive. Also to take out the key everytime I have to stick my finger in the hole under the steering wheel otherwise it stays stuck.
The vehicle will move to the acessory position constantly and drain the battery. It was taken to rick hendrick chevy on savvanah hwy in charleston by a young woman. They repaired it and allowed her to drive off with the vehicle knowing it had the same problem. They put her life in jeperdy.
The latching mechanism on the doors stopped working properly, usually when the outside temperatures begin to drop, but it isn't always the case. The doors either won't open or won't close, and the handles don't work inside or outside of the car when the latch won't release. Sometimes banging very hard on the outside of the door at a certain location releases it and it works again until the next time you need to open it. I've seen many posts online of Cobalt owners having the same issue. This is a major safety hazard, and should require a recall. If both doors stopped working at the same time I would be stuck inside the car, or stuck outside not being able to get in and drive my car. And what if there was an emergency? unfortunately repair shops have no clue what's going on or how to fix it, and I'm not the only one out there who can't get it repaired.
I replaced ignition switch as per procedures for recall and have not received reimbursement as promised.
Rear door opened while driving. Power steering cuts off.
While traveling about 30-40 mph, lost control of car, could not steer, crashed through trees, car totaled. Air bags did not deploy.
Can not open door from inside or outside. Vehicle is not locked, will not open. Huge saftey concern.
On 01//24/2012 I was driving my 2005 Cobalt on the lodge freeway in michigan my car just turn off for no reason while I was driving at 55 mph ,yes I was injured and lost control of my car .
For no apparent reason and without any warning (no check engine light or anything), I received an "engine power reduced" warning and my car's engine completely shut down while I was completing a turn in a busy intersection. Luckily, I was able to coast to safety and park in a nearby parking lot. The car refused to turn back on for several minutes. Once it did, I drove my car to my office and was able to start it and drive it without further incident for several weeks. Then, without warning it happened again while I was on the freeway and has been happening intermittently since then. When I took it to the dealership, they claimed they are not aware of other people having this problem, but I have found numerous complaints and reports from other owners online, so I'm not convinced of their honesty or concern regarding this matter. They say they *think* the problem might be the master computer or at least that is their "best guess" (their words, not mine). I will be replacing it later this week. Unfortunately, I'm not confident the repair will fix the problem. After gm's repeated and explicit denial of the power steering problem and how long it took them to admit there even was one, I have decided to appeal to you. At present, when driving this car, I am a danger to myself and everyone else who might be around me on the road. . . As are all other Cobalt drivers. Please, investigate this matter before someone has this happen at the wrong place and the wrong time and someone gets seriously hurt, or worse. Gm knows it created a car with a faulty electrical system which could result in catastrophic failures and they need to take responsibility for it and fix it. Just because they stopped making the car, does not absolve their responsibility to make them safe for everyone on the road.
My 2005 chevy Cobalt begins to shake while driving on the freeway. I can feel the vibration starting through the floor board and eventually the whole front end begins to shake. The steering wheel violently shakes from front to back(versus side to side) and the vehicle is hard to control. I always have to pull over or get off the freeway. It feels like the whole front end is going to fall apart. After coming to a complete stop I can continue to drive without any problems. This began almost 6 months ago. I have had my car looked at several times and each time I take it and someone test drives it they cannot find a problem. They have done inspections of brakes, tires ( rebalance and rotate, checked front end alignment, checked steerage and linkage and they find nothing wrong. They also tell me that my car is in great condition. But it continues to shake all the time. Sometimes it won't happen for a week or two, sometimes it happens two or three times a week. .
All my door handles are falling off and I've heard many colblats doing the same and all my paint is chipping off my car I drove from a to b and that's all.
Complete power failure at random while traveling at 50 mph.
