My 2005 chevy Cobalts power steering completely shut off while I was accelerating up onto a twisting highway on ramp at approximately 65 mph.
While driving the power steering goes out and the power steering light comes on. If the car is turned off and back on the power steering works fine, but will go out again while driving. This happens everytime I drive. I have been researching online and this seems to be a problem with many Cobalt, malibu and other models.
Clutch pedal went to floor. Could not shift gears. Luckily this happened while pulling away from a traffic light at low speed. If it happened pulling on to a high speed merge onto an interstate, I could have been killed. Car is dead in the water and inoperable. This is an event that should never happen. Dealer said clutch is hydraulically activated and has a sealed unit.
