For months I have been having problems with my ignition switch, I have been calling every week to the cheverolet dealership closest to my home and each week they tell me to call back next week. Well this week my car finally died on me. Luckily I had parked and went into a store and when I came out the it would not start rather than stalling on the road. So I called the dealership and explained what my car had done and at that time they told me to call triple aaa and have them tow my car to the dealership. I was told that if it was my ignition switch it would be fixed and I could get a rental until the parts come in. Well needless to say I called the towing company (aaa) and my car was towed up there the next day when I called to check on it I was told that it was my starter and now I owe a hundred and two dollars towing fee and have to pay them over six hundred dollars to do the starter work. I could not afford this so now I'm out of more money to have my car towed away from there. I go and buy a starter that cost over two hundred dollars only to put it on and my car still don't work. I am so disappointed in this company and I am afraid of this car. I am not a mechanic and I am not sure what this ignition switch may or may not do if I continue to drive. I was under the impression that I could get a rental according to the news and I am yet to get anyone to even act as if they care. This is a plea for you to help me. I am a single mother of four, working two jobs and this is my only source of transportation. Please help me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I bought the car 2 years ago. I noticed that the car stalls mostly when the temp outside is around the single digits. Doesnt happen all the time, and sometimes when the temp isnt that low. Unfortunately I still have to work and I was driving to work one morning, the car stalled on and icy road and I ended up in a snow bank. The car of course started right back up like nothing was wrong and ran for a couple weeks with out a problem. I have a constant problem with the car stalling, I even had a new engine put in because I was told it would fix the problem when I couldnt start my car at all one day and had to have it towed to a shop. Not even a week after the new engine, the car began stalling again, showing up with power steering warning lights and my mph gauge went haywire. Ironically, sometime around this whole problem, the recall for the ignition switch came out.

I was driving my Cobalt all of a sudden the rpm's red lined and I had no power. I had to coast into a nearby parking lot. I waited about 30 min, started it back up and it seemed fine. Then I started to have trouble getting my key out of the ignition. There were several times I had to leave my key in the ignition because it would not come out. The next problem came when I would hit the brakes. If someone in front of me suddenly stopped and I had to hit the brakes hard, the car would idle really rough and shut off. That has been a constant problem for the past 2 to 3 years. I called the local koons dealership, they told me these problems were common and that I needed a new bcm. So, I purchased a new bcm. The service department told me that the bcm was "plug and play". Basically, it was a few clips, a few bolts and that I could install it myself, so I did. It didn't solve the problem. I called back and the guy that answered the phone told me to unhook the battery and wait 15 minutes, then hook it back up. Not only did it not solve the problem, but by unhooking the battery the anti-theft locked my radio. When I called back the third time the service department told me I needed to bring the car in and have them reset it for 300$. Being as thought I just spent 300$ on the bcm I didnt have the money. I bought the Cobalt because it was a chevy and a small reliable car. I was also a college student so the price was right. Since the recall for the ignition switch has come out, I called the koons dealership and asked about a refund on the bcm because that obviously wasnt the problem. They told me I was out of luck and they werent going to help me. Now, I have a death trap, im out the money for the bcm, and I dont have money for a new car. Thanks for sticking it to your customers gm! I will never by another gm.

2006 Chevrolet Cobalt randomly days, weeks apart in mid travel, at turns, near rear end crash with sudden loss of power 4-28-10 while wife driving 60 mph, and car slowed quickly nearly getting rear ended, car behind swerved to miss barely. An every now and then nuisance becoming an extreme hazard as power is lost, care stalls really quickly in speed in mid road. A lot of complaints online about same issue. I have a 2006 chevy Cobalt which I have had for 2 years now and for the past couple months when I slow the car down or I am at a stoplight the car will stall! I brought the car to be fixed already and they said that there was nothing they could find that was wrong with it but replaced things that might help. Well that didn't work because my car is still stalling! I have a 3 year old and a 6 year old I cannot keep having this car stall when I am pulling out of somewhere in the middle of traffic any longer please get this fixed. Now that I have been on here reading there is obviously a power steering issue also so now that has me scared. . . Obviously this is not a good car at all!!!!.
