Failure Date: 02/27/2019

This is the second time this has happened(~6 months apart). When I'm going around 50-60 mph and need to hit the brakes to slow the car quickly (not slam the brakes), they lock up. I hit the brakes and turned to the left the first time and turned to the right the second. Both times the front brakes locked up, I went fishtailing across 3 lanes and ending up facing oncoming traffic both times. I've been lucky both times and not been hit by anyone else but I'm sure my luck will run out one day. Additional note: the car turned off the first time. And the 2nd time, the driver's side rear tire was shredded. --2007 Cobalt- 125k miles. Brake job done 2016. This entry is 2/27/19.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

I was driving on the highway with my son and my car died due to the ignition switch, luckily it was in the early morning and there was nobody around. I have a standard vehicle so I just shifted down and coasted. I pulled off to the shoulder and put my emergency brakes. I immediately took my vehicle to a gm dealership and got the problem taken care of. Within a month of getting my vehicle back, I was on the highway with my son and the brakes decentigrated and totally failed on me. I fortunately knew how to handle my car in a situation such as this but I had to get it towed to the dealership I purchased it from. I expressed my extreme concerns for safety and how I needed to get into a safer vehicle. I have not been helped and I have been without a vehicle for a month. Brought 2007 Cobalt on 7/09/14. Reported the problem of the vehicle shutting- off on me and no inspection sticker was on the car 7/10/14. They wrote a work order out. Brought the vehicle to archer auto to get work performed and for a inspection sticker. Archer auto kept my 2007 Cobalt for 3 months. Until I called bbb business and filed a complaint. Archer auto said they fix my vehicle but didn't. Archer auto put a illegal inspection sticker on it to pass the emission test. Archer auto returned my vehicle. Then the power steering went out. Brought it to firestone to get fix. Then later found out there was a recall on the power steering. The 2007 Cobalt was shutting-off on me and losing all power. . Then I took it back because their was another recall on the vehicle. Then on 9/13/14 the engine shut-off on me. Losing all power , locking the brakes and power steering also. 14 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2013

In my words and experience that happened on the day of 03/13/2013, appx 4:30 pm on my way home from work, like any other day over crowded traffic hour , stop and go, I started to experience loss of power in my vehicle. Twice it started loosing power then the vehicle veered towards oncoming traffic I steered to the right and vehicle would not steer back into normal position causing me to go over a dirt embankment and off a cliff, at that point I do not think the engine was running, I literally thought this was the end of my life, going through trees ,hitting rocks. There was nothing I could do but to wait to die. Then the vehicle hit something real hard causing the vehicle to roll over and come to a stop. I just remember wanting to get out of the car as fast as I could. I had to crawl out of the passenger side to get out. I didn't see anyone I couldn't see the roadway I was so far down. I heard people yelling if I was ok. I then remembered I needed my purse and my phone to get help so I crawled back into the car I found my purse but no phone or keys until the vehicle was recovered by chp recovery. At the time I didn't feel I needed medical attention, but since the accident my back and my balance are not the same as they use to. I've also been having difficulties with my memory.

15 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2013

The traction control light has turned on several times before but usually goes away. While hitting my brakes on the freeway to exit, my traction control light turned on today. I was going about 60 and slowing when it happened. The vehicle jerked violently causing me to slam forward in my chair and almost causing the person behind me to hit me. Once I stopped at the light and hit the accelerator again, it again jerked. I parked my car and shut it off. I turned it back on and put it into drive and immediately the car jolts. It continues to do this each time I switch from park to drive and from braking to driving.

16 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2012

17 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2012

On November 10, 2010, I was on my way to work. It was about 10:00am if I remember correctly. I could not even make it out of my subdivision before my Cobalt began to give out on me. I made a right turn at a stop sign, and my car suddenly started to "roll" I would say, because I was not able to steer or press the breaks. Basically the car had cut off without me knowing. I definitely didn't expect it to happen since it was on a full tank of gas. But anyways as it was rolling it was pulling towards the right since that's how my steering wheel was already turned from me making a right at a stop sign. I could not get the car to stop and I was rolling down the hill drifting off into peoples yards. The car rolled into a brick mailbox. It hit pretty hard. The brick mailbox came completely out of the ground and luckily fell in the opposite direction. I slung forward one the car hit the mailbox. I blacked out for a few seconds, and then immediately went into a panic attack which caused me to go into an asthma attack. I have asthma pretty bad. The air bad did not deploy. The front end of the car was all smashed in and all the fuels had leaked out. Because I slung forward I had whiplash, and also a knot on my head and a swollen busted lip. I was wearing my seat belt. I was out of work for a while due to the pack neck and head injuries. The police was called and a police report was filed. And of course the car was totaled out, which also left me with no transportation.

18 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2012

I have an extreme vibration and some clanking noise in the front end of my 2007 chevy Cobalt whenever applying my brakes on a downhill slope. I do mostly freeway driving and fortunately there aren't a lot of hills , so my brakes are not under much stop and go strain. I was told the my control arms and bushings will have to be replaced and that it may cost $900 or more after labor. Due to the cost, I have not been able to do the repairs and after looking online, I see that several other people have had the same issue and replaced these parts only to find they need to be replaced again in as little as a year. My last chevy had nearly 300,000 miles on it and there was never an issue with the control arms, so this definitely should not be happening.

19 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2012

The first incident happen in 2012 and caused a crash. I was driving down the street and needed to stop at a red light and put my foot to the floor on the brakes and it did not stop me. I could not move the steering wheel either so I could not avoid hitting the lady in front of me. Luckily, I was not going very fast and everyone was okay. While exchanging insurance information, I noticed my keys were in the floor board of my vehicle. I didn't think anything of it, because when it came out of the shop it seemed just fine. Then, I was on the freeway on my way to work in 2013 and my knee bumped my key ring and they fell to the floor. I could not slow down or switch lanes. I got a speeding ticket. Then in November, 2013, the same thing happened as the first time which caused a wreck. I could not stop at a red light and rear ended a vehicle in front of me. I was barely moving whatsoever though, so I got lucky again. Recently, my check engine light came on and I took it to the autovbody shop in town and had to pay 800 dollars to get the timing chain replaced. I have had nothing but issues with that car and now I find out that many recalls have been issued on the vehicle and I have not been notified of a single one. Apparently gm was supposed to notify owners with their registration information. My registration just came up for renewal as of may 1st and I have not been notified or instructed what to do. It has gotten to the point now where I duct tape my key so that it will not come out while I am driving. I limit my driving to necessity travel because I am too afraid that something else, possibly worse, than what has already happened thus far.

20 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2010

The car shakes and makes a screeching sound when the brake IA applied. I have changed the entire brake system to my Cobalt 2007 and my car still seems to shake and shriek when I apply the brake at a fast speed.

21 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2010

Driving to work, we had some light snow and the wind was rather strong. I drive a 2007 chevy Cobalt. The check engine light comes on mentioning reduced power. Seconds later traction control light comes on. At that point in time I can not accelerate or brake at all. I tired to push the brake as hard as I could with no effect. Gave up on that and used the emergency brake to slow the vehicle down and have it towed. Luckily I was going rather slowly due to the inclement weather, and there were no cars ahead of me. The chevy dealer blamed it on a fuel tank pressure sensor.

22 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2009

Rear brakes make a loud eerie sound when in reverse, not always but usually on a cold start, cold morning, after a car wash, after rain, or parked for a couple days.

23 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2009

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt. She stated while driving at speeds of less than 60 mph on the highway in light rain conditions, she heard a loud boom and screeching sound. Immediatley afterward, the vehicle began to pull to the left. She attempted to steer the vehicle off the highway however, the vehicle would not respond to her steering. She then tapped on the brakes and the vehicle spun out of control until the vehicle was now proceeding backward. The vehicle then proceeded up a nearby grassy hill, turning out of control until she was able to turn the vehicle front ward. The brakes and steering still would not respond to driver initiation. The vehicle then proceeded back down the grassy hill and back toward traffic. The vehicle stopped once back onto the cement pavement. The front driver's side wheel was totally collapsed outward and the tire was shredded. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where they found the rack and pinion failed, however they would not take any liability for the failures. They stated she must have hit something in the highway to have experienced catastrophic failures. The contact was sure she did not hit anything in the road and the failure was unexpected and unexplained. No repairs were made to the vehicle, to date. The failure and current mileages were 51,000.

24 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2009

My 2007 Cobalt has less then 24,000 miles. I was leaving the hairdresser and I went to press on the break to put the car in gear. My brake pedal went straight down. This continued on the way home. Took it to the dealer and they found nothing wrong with the breaks. But did find that the bushings on both side were gone. Dealer replaced the bushings. The next day I was driving home down a hill and the wheels were not turning. It seemed like I was losing power. I went to go up and hill and I had no power. Took it back to the dealer. They found nothing wrong. As I was leaving the brake pedal went to the floor again, back to the dealer. Still nothing. Only a week went by. The brake pedal went to the floor several times. I fear that I'm going to loose control of the car and hit someone. Back to the dealer yet again. Still this has not happened to them. They keep telling me my brakes are fine!!!!!.
