There is a gas leak. This is very serious and should be on a recall l iu st. The list of consumers affected is a pretty long list.
Fuel is leaking from underneath a black plastic part holding the fuel line in place in front of the left rear tire. I am not sure how much leaks, but after driving it starts dripping.
Strong odor of gasoline detected and gasoline is leaking from underneath the vehicle 21 and one half inches forward of the center line of driver side or left rear tire. This condition leaving paddle of gasoline and was found with vehicle at stationary position.
Vehicle started misting gas by the passenger rear wheel.
Went to drive car today, while at the first stop sign, waiting for traffic I started smelling gas, got to my destination, and looked under the car, and gas was dripping very fast from just in front of the left rear tire, within 1 inch of the exhaust pipe, it appears to be leaking from numerous spots by the left rear tire.
Sever fuel leak at drivers side rear above exhaust when running. A steel line is leaking at a plastic mounting clip due to severe corrosion.
Smell gas on left rear side of car after stopping.
Bad fuel smell outside and in vehicle, wont start until second try. No obvious fuel leak on ground but read there are recalls of other Cobalts.
Fuel line leak, drivers side rear. In front of tire. Noticed strong odor of gas, looked under car after I turned it off. Saw gas running down onto pavement.
Keep getting the smell of fuel in and outside of car. When driving and when exiting the vehicle.
I have noticed a strong gas smell coming from the car right after I parked my car. And discovered gas leaking through the gas lines very fast. I've noticed that many chevy Cobalt cars encounter this issue when I researched this problem I have. I am surprised it has not been called for recall.

The contact veerred to the shoulder of the road got out an noticed the fuel leaking. The contact managed to get the vehicle to his residence where he contacted his inseruncec company taylor family care, who towed the vehicle to the dealer (wally edgar Chevrolet 3805 s lapeer rd, orion charter township, mi 48360 (248) 494-8698) where at this moment the vehicle is begin assist. No diagnoses test were ran. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided the contact with case#(9-562-0828774) which no further assistance was taken. Have a leak on my fuel line on the rear passenger side. See many people complain about it. . Fuel is dripping on the ground. This is a huge fire hazard waiting to happen.
There is a very strong odor of gasoline coming from inside and out of my vehicle when parked and engine is off/on and when the vehicle is in motion. The smell has made my children nautious and given us headaches. And after doing some research I'm seeing very similar cases with the Cobalts of other years that are being recalled but mine is not. I beleive it is the same issue as the 2009 Cobalts aswell as the Saturn ions.
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that there was a gas leak coming from under the left rear section in front of the back tire. The dealer mauer Chevrolet 1055 50th st e, inver grove heights, mn 55077 (651) 212-2980 confirmed that there was no recall and offered to bring it in and give an estimate of the repair cost. The manufacturer also confirmed no recall and also could not help with the repair costs. The manufacturer did provide a case number to the contact. The failure mileage was 114,000. Tf.
Smelled gas while running, driving, & after turned off, has fuel leak. Fuel line eroded where they insulated the metal line!.
Increasingly the vehicle is not operating properly. The lighting is not consistent and the smallest addition of extra features requiring power (using one or more window controls, heater and or defogger, lighting in dash at full capacity, musical performance, radio and bass, etc) will cause the power of existing devices to flutter or surge for example the headlights will dim out when turning the windows down or the vehicle will begin to vibrate and shake even more almost as though it is overpowering and wanting to shut down or quit. Also the rpms will feel like they are hiccuping or bouncing down and up more than usual and at random times and speeds at times seems like its going to red line even if you take your foot off the gas. This is also a bit of the same type of issue but it is the opposite when you push the gas it hesitates or something like that glitches or jolts and gains power very slowly and has a hard time accelerating and gaining speed (seems gutless?) . And at stop lights and whenever parked its rumbles and shakes all together let alone if you are using the radio or heat etc it's loud enough to have to get the people in vehicle to almost yell when talking over it or if you are in a drive through the person can't hear you and either have to stut off the engine or speak to them in person at the next window. Also when you are slowing down to stop it almost seems the engine will be faster than the body or something like that (I know sounds crazy but I don't know how to explain it any other way) . I've come to the conclusion that it will be fuel and or electricity related or both. Its also randomly showing a few different codes and then suddenly they go away all to do with fuel pressure or syster or evap type thing. Without clearing them they resolve themselves without any work or anything witch also seems very oddto me. Thankyou in advance for reading.
The car is leaking gas from the fuel line. The spot is by the back side driver rear wheel.
The car is leaking fuel, it first came to notice when parked in my garage, the odor of fuel was so strong I was afraid to open the garage door or start the car for fear of a spark starting a fire and burning my house down! the dealership told me the fuel lines are corroded and leaking. I am shocked that such a critical component is made of materials that could ever be compromised during ordinary use, especially when leaking gasoline is such an obvious safety hazard. I opened a case with Chevrolet, #9-5329841790, but was told fuel lines are considered a maintenance issue.
Rusted fuel line leaking gas. Driver side by between doors. I smelled gas when I get in it and start it up. Just started took it to garage they showed me the rusted line and said they need replace. Car has 86,000 miles on it.
Fuel line near driver rear tire leaks. I saw an article online about this issue beginning to pop up. Mine started leaking enough to cause driving issues. Temp fix, just put a rubber fuel hose on with clamps. To poor to fix an issue like this, it's not cheap.
I have a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt I purchased from a dealership 11 months ago. 3 days ago I get in my car, start it up and all of a sudden I got a strong smell of gasoline. I got out, looked under my car and gas is pouring out from underneath my car. I've read very many complaints just like mine on 2005-2009 Chevrolet Cobalt's. If all these Cobalt's have the same safety issues there needs to be a recall before someone's car goes up in flames and kills one or more people. My car was parked in my driveway, as soon as I turned the key I could smell gas.
Can smell gas when you stop the car . You can smell it really bad when you exit the car. The gas leak is right over top of the exhaust system and I do not know why this is not considered a safety issue. It is evidently leaking when the car is on the road but with the car in motion you do not smell the gas until you stop!.
Strong smell of fuel in cabin of car and leaking fuel.
Tl the contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt. While driving 45 mph, fuel began to leak out from behind the passenger door. The vehicle was taken to ginn Chevrolet (8153 access rd, covington, GA 30014, 404-492-5076) where it was diagnosed that the fuel wires had fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 180,000.
Leaking gasoline. Chevrolet will not cover gas lines under the emissions warranty, however the dealerships want $650+ to replace the lines. Chevrolet wants nothing to do with the warnings, and would rather explain how unsafe it is to drive the vehicle. The fuel lines are not covered and leaking profusely.
The car has a smell of gasoline. Looked under the car and it appears that there is a leak. The smell is stronger while running the car with air on but circulation button off. Noticed this smell while auto in motion.
Often over cranks for close to 5 seconds with very strong raw gasoline fumes while parked on flat parking lot, inside car and outside car smell strongly. Once started I cant recall smelling it because I run the recirculation a/c. The check gas cap notification appears followed by check engine light. I already changed the gas cap with no effect. I have seen recalls on this same problem for the same year and model but I have been told I am not covered by the recall even though it seems to be the same issue. This is a very dangerous situation as this is my only vehicle and I have a toddler riding in this car with me.
A strong odor of gasoline appeared within the last week of a 08 Chevrolet Cobalt LS. Also check engine light comes on and goes off. Engine has to be cranked twice to start. Checked gas cap, seemed not to be seating/ sealing properly. Odbe tester showed no error codes. Replaced fuel cap on 10?03/2018 with oem cap. 10/04/2018 while parked in driveway noticed puddle (gas) underneath car in front of left rear tire. (wife drove car from work, noticed stronger odor of gas on way home). Checked online forums seeing complaints of leaking gas lines in this area of same model year, it is leaking under a silver shield/insulation. This is near the exhaust pipes running from engine to rear of car. Several complaints state that the leak is being caused by cracks and/or corrosion to the fuel lines. Check of VIN # shows no open safety recalls (car was bought used 3-4 years ago).
Fuel leak on the driver's side rear door area. Can see fuel leaking at plastic line. In checking recalls, it seems general motors did issue a recall (number is 12190) for this exact problem, but only in certain states. Obviously it is happening in more of the states not included in the original recall. Owners online are all posting the same problems.
I have a fuel leak on the drivers side middle of the vehicle, in front of the rear tire. This leak is from the fuel lines around the heat shield. It appears the fuel lines are corroded. I tried to get a price quote on parts from the dealership, but they required me to take in in for diagnostics, because they said it was a common problem and should be covered under a recall. After $100 they told me it wasn't covered and finally quoted me on the repair, over $1,000. Not only do I feel the parts were faulty, I feel like I was scammed out of an additional $100 to confirm what I already knew. The vehicle leaks when stationary, if you turn the key off the fuel lines will drain onto the ground until the lines empty. Starting the vehicle takes about 5 seconds for the pump to get new fuel to the engine. When the engine is on the fuel will continually drizzle out. The leak was not noticed until a mechanic pointed it out in September of 2018, but has now grown to a big issue. Given the proximity of the leak to the exhaust I am concerned this could be a major issue for someone driving in the south, in the summer.
Gas line leaking on drivers side by the rear tire ! strong gas odor.
Strong smell of fuel coming into the cabin of the car and soon after a fuel leak. This has been a ongoing problem with the Cobalts.
On July 17,2018 I saw my 2008 chevy Cobalt was leaking fuel in my driveway around the driver's side rear tire. I had it towed to my in-town mechanic, as I have triple a. Paid $613. 37 to replace the fuel line. On August 15th, 2022 same exact problem on my 2010 Cobalt. Another $553 to replace the fuel line. Chevrolet sent out a very confusing possible recall letter in March 2013. But never officially told owners they would fix the problem with a recall letter. There have been many complaints on this problem on 2005-2010 Cobalts.
Fuel line from pump to engine leaking from hole in line due to rubbing on chassis.
