general problems of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt - part 2

8k miles, driven normally, 90% freeway. Rear brakes scored and grinding since 6000k miles. Parking brake does not like to let go when left for more than an hour. Awaiting response from shop.

Rear brakes have worn out way pre-maturely on my new 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt ss turbo. My rear rotor is almost completely gone and rusted over. It grinds, and squeals really bad, and I just hit 25k miles.

2009 Chevrolet Cobalt ss. Sedan. Extreme rear brake pad wear (70%) and rear brake rotor damage after only 4000 miles. Why has nothing been done about all the complaints regarding this serious issue? I do not abuse the car and do not apply hard brakes. I only engage the parking brake when the car is stopped and parked. Investigate, recall and repair.

Rotors are scored and need replaced on rear after only 15k miles.

My brakes vibrate and have deep grooves in them and I almost got turned down for repairs because they thought it was from improper use of my vehicle.

I own a 2009 chevy Cobalt ss/tc with less than 15k miles on it my rear brakes have become completely ineffective with unusual wear properties to the inside pad. This is the second time it has happened, and this time the pad material separated from the backing plate on the drivers side making the car pull towards the right anytime I slow down and lock the passenger side rear tire despite having abs anytime it rains.

My car has very low kms just over 1000kms and my rear brakes are already noisy and the rotors scored.

The stock rotors on my car started getting severely warped within the first 3-4 months of owning the car. The car was brand new when I purchases it. I replaced the brakes after owning the car for 10 months and the car had about 14,000 miles. I showed the dealer the rotors and they resurfaced them. I've been driving the car with new brakes since June 2010, the new brakes are already squeaking and rotors have severe grooves on them. I purchased the car June 2009 brand new.

My rear brakes rub. They are very loud and I only have 7,000 miles on it. There are marks in them. I was told that is normal. I did not know that chevy would install brakes that are loud and fail as normal.

We were coming back to maryland from a birthday party in springfield, ohio. While coming down the mountainist area of I-69, the front end started to wobble when brakes were applied. We took it to the chevolet dealer in laurel, MD when we got home. Instead of replacing the defective part. They turn the rotor. I had to go the and indipendent mechanic and have the front brakes and front rotors replaced to completely correct the problem that the certified mechanics at Chevrolet could not correct.

Rear brakes disc's grooving at 4000 miles . I've owned the car since new so I can say for sure that there hasn't been any abuse to the brakes.

Driver died in a solo car accident involving a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt. After swerving from his to the next, the driver could not safely return to his lane. His car just went off the road and crashed. The steering on the car just did not seem to work together with the car braking system.

I've owned my new Cobalt ss for 5 months now and the rear brakes are already shot and the rotors are ribbed. Car has 13k on the odometer and I don't road race the car. Just daily driving. They also do not stop in the rain!!!.

Brakes on a 2009 and 2008 chevy Cobalt ss turbocharged. Failing prematurely. I have 7500 miles and already have scored, fading brake performance, front and rear.

Both rear rotors are heavily scored on the inner and outer sides of the rotor. Dealer calls it handbrake abuse. I never knew that pulling your handbrake when you park the car was abuse.

Rear brakes on my 09 ss Cobalt were grooved so I had the dealer look at them, they shaved them down and did not replace them which they should, these brakes constantly grind and squeak even though its a brand new car. My brakes on my 2000 impala are fine but for some reason the brakes on the Cobalt grind and make lots of noise and don't seem healthy.

I bought a used Cobalt ss from a dealer in memphis on July 15, and drove it home to kansas, about 900 miles. It had about 3300 miles on it, and had been in gm fleet service. It now has 4600 miles. The rear brake rotors are scored badly on both sides, and my local dealer will not do anything for me, calling it "wear". In my opinion, this is an unacceptable wear rate on brakes, which is a safety concern. I have been in touch with a number of other Cobalt ss owners with similar problems.

I have a 2009 Cobalt ss that I bought new and before I had the first oil change at 5000 miles I was having brake squealing the dealer looked at it and said its normal iv had it at 2 different dealers several times and nothing has been done, I now have 26000 mile and no back brakes rotors are badly scorn, something has too be done with this.

Rear brakes wear very fast and unevenly, thus destroying rotors. Produces loud squealing and reduced breaking ability. Parts are not available from chevy and this is a known problem within the Cobalt community.

I drive a 2009 Cobalt ss. When putting the car in reverse and backing up I notice a loud screechy sound when applying the brakes. I brought it to the dealer and they said this was normal. Recently I looked on threads and it turns out lots of other people are having the same problem. I also see that the brakes are wearing out alot faster in the rear.

The rear brake rotors on my 2009 chevy Cobalt ss are wearing and grooving excessively. Since the car was new they would squeak loudly and I noticed the deep recesses after only 1000 miles. I've been to two dealerships and they told me this was normal and it was how it was designed, one even said it was to keep rust of the rotor!.
