general problems of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Our daughter observed a significant puddle forming under her vehicle and noticed a strong smell of gasoline. She sent us a video, which clearly showed gasoline leaking from the driver-side rear area of the car. Due to the proximity of the fuel leak to the exhaust pipe, we had the car towed to a mechanic, as it was too dangerous to drive. The mechanic diagnosed the issue as a severely rusted-out fuel line that required immediate repair. At no point did the vehicle display any warning lights or alerts related to this issue. Alarmingly, our daughter had unknowingly driven the car while the leak was occurring, unaware of the serious fire risk this posed. We believe this is a serious safety hazard that could lead to a fire or explosion and strongly urge an investigation. This failure occurred without warning and could have resulted in a catastrophic outcome. We are fortunate this was caught in time, but others may not be as lucky.

Bright led lights when driving at night, specifically of other SUV or truck vehicles. This has affected my driving at night by blinding and giving me headaches. How can we prevent a safer road? why is this approved? why do headlights need to be so bright, that they are blinding to other vehicles? this is a huge safety concern and needs to be addressed. I drive a smaller car, but I shouldnt have to be punished because I drive a smaller vehicle. This isnt about specifically the make and model of the car, but solely on the bright led headlights that are dangerous while I am driving at night.

Leaking fuel from plastic gas tank seam. I had it inspected by two,one Chevrolet dealer ship and my own macanic. Both are saying its a malfuction on the plastic seal around the plastic gas tank. And both are telling me I need to report this as soon as possible because its leaking alot of fuel and can burst into flames, or blow up, they both agree it is very very dangerous. Period and I shouldnt be driving it. They also agree it is a manafacture failure. And defentley needs to be recalled a. S. A. P. Before all the people who do have the last Cobalts that were made before there bankruptcy case. Lordstown should of recalled these knowing there 2007-2009 had problems with fuel leakage.

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that fuel was leaking nearby the passenger’s side door. There was no warning light illuminated. There was an abnormal odor of fuel inside and outside the vehicle. The contact called the local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The contact referenced NHTSA action number: pe20011 (fuel system, other) open investigation. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.

While car has been parked, when you insert the key in the ignition to start the vehicle the key will not move and the key is stuck in ignition.

I purchased a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt from a used car dealership in July of 2019. 3 months into having the car, as I , my mother and 6yo daughter were driving on the highway at approximately 60mph , the car started to jerk and slow down. The �engine reduced power � message came across my dash . We we're almost side swiped and rear ended. Only for the fact that a fellow motorist stopped behind me to help merge traffic to keep us from getting hit , is what kept us from being in an accident and pulling over to the shoulder. This is so dangerous and I can't imagine as a mother how losing her life, or the life of her child would have been devistating because of a manufacturer's error!.

Yesterday morning I went out to warm up the car before heading out and noticed a good puddle of water under my car. I smelled the fluid and found it to be antifreeze. I immediately took my car to my local mechanic who found it to be a leak in the transmission cooling line. Being advised to take it to the dealership for repair because it was broken in the factory joint, where the line is like welded together during manufacturing. I got home and researched the problem online and was shocked at the number of results describing my very problem. I can't even count how many describe the same scenario, going out after the hardest freeze, water puddle under the car with antifreeze in it and trip to shop, defective transmission cooling line! as though all these other people were living my life at that moment. I just bought this vehicle 2 months ago and have had nothing but problem after problem, but they were minor compared to this! it is going to cost me close to $300. 00 to fix this very, very common problem right here at christmas with 2 children to provide for. Several of customers who reported the same problem did say the dealership fixed their problem at no charge because it was a common problem in poor manufacturing of this part! I can only hope I get so lucky. Or that the NHTSA picks this up and puts a recall on this very defective product!.

Cobalt 2010 suddenly while driving in the pm the car completely shut down with 3 passengers in the car. My family were very upset and shaken.

Problem with the transmissionwill not shift into any gears, after having a hole in transmission pan,so replace the pan and filter and gasket and put new transmission fluid in,now car will not shift into any gears. Its like it locked me out of the transmission all together. This makes the 2nd transmission that was put into my car I had it done a couple years ago and it's back to the same problem again,it's cost me 2,000 lol ast time for a rebuilt transmission that should last at least 4-5 years only lasted for 2 years,the auto place said it had something to do with the pump solenoid and the shit solenoid,that they are riged to burn out these components. And it's parked in front of my house. It happen on highway and on city streets. Very scary, I am disabled and depen on my car to go to lung doctor. I am on a very tight fixed income and can't afford another 2,000 . For this problem. I had to let my car sit last time for 6 months in order to pay the transmission off before they leave et me have my car back. I have just lost 4 family members in our family, in the past 4 months and only us 3 girls are left. We had to pay for all 4 furneals. I can't afford this.

Car will not start takes hours to restart car. Car battery will not die die car will not start. Happens when car stops.

I took my car to have the recalls fixed although I was having no problems. Putnam Chevrolet in burlingame supposedly did it. The first time I had to parallel park my steering wheel became impossible to turn and. I had to get out and find a place where I didn't have to steer very much which living in san francisco is nearly impossible. Also my gear shift marks red in d even when I am in reverse or parked.

I received a recall notice on my Chevrolet vehicle and made an appointment for the recall work at ted britt chevy in sterling, va. After two hours with the vehicle, the technician presented me with a list of repairs costing $1200+ that would need to be performed before the recall action could be taken. Not only were the issues suspect, but more importantly none of them precluded the recall work from being completed. The effort to shake down customers for elective, out-of-pocket repairs before a dealership performs a legally mandated action is clearly fraud.

Tl - the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that driving(at any speed) the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle shift gears automatically causing the vehicle to jerk rapidly. The contact also stated that the starter fuse blows out when starting the engine. The contact would have to shake the fuse box prior to inserting a new fuse to prevent(temporary) the fuses from immediately blowing out after starting the vehicle. The contact stated that the new ground wire was added to connect to the trans control module however the issue with the check engine light and the shift control error reoccurs after a few hours. The manufacturer has not been notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 92,000. Dg.

While driving at 55mph on CA hwy 111, the engine just shut off. I was in busy fast moving traffic. Extremely dangerous. I had not changed anything nor did I have more than a single key on the key ring.

The driver's door speaker has stopped working. This appears to be a common problem reported on chevy forums for all model year Cobalts. This problem creates safety concerns as all vehicle warning chimes and sounds are directed to the speaker on this door and are now non-functional. Particular concern is that the turn signal make no sound when activated. This can lead to an accident when no warning sound is generated when a driver unintentionally leaves a turn signal activated. This was report to chevy (ref. 8-2076604032), but it does not appear they will be issuing a recall.

When I got to red light tonight 4/29/2016, car started jerking as if it will cut off. Scary dont know what to do. Dont have money for expensive repairs. Help.

Starting in 12/15, the traction control light was coming on intermittently, then also the abs light. Per mechanic advice, I had a wheel bearing replaced. After that, lights were off, then began again several days later. My mechanic said I should replace the opposite bearing to even out the traction sensor. 1/21/16 I was driving down a hill, tapped the brake, felt something lock up in the front end and careened across the road into some trees. I asked my insurance CO about this, and notified chevy too. Nobody seemed interested in pursuing the cause of the accident- totaled the car. Thank god I wasn't hurt badly and nobody else was involved. I know they don't want to bother with me because I am small potatoes. I feel I should at very least be reimbursed for the repairs I had done and pay for my new (used) vehicle for my trouble. I think my driving record, my familiarity with the road and the knowledge my mechanic has of my problem plus the fact that many others have had the same problems as I saw on line should provide me some help.

Good afternoon, I have a few concerns about my vehicle and have contacted Chevrolet and the attorney general but they have now directed my questions/concerns to you. My vehicle is now on its sixth recall. Every time I have to bring my car in for work, I have to take time off of work and the car dealerships I’m required to bring my car into do not have loaner vehicles. However, my primary concern is this is my only vehicle and I am a single mom. These recalls are disconcerting and within the letters have openly stated that these defects, flaws or problems have caused deaths. My son is my everything and it is my job to protect him. When I contacted the company to ask how many recalls does it take to make a vehicle ineffective in regards to, do they stand behind their products? I was then directed to you. The individual I spoke to said they do not work in lemon laws but what about safety laws? what about standing behind their product? what about protecting those individuals that have bought their products and have now had multiple recalls that have the ability to make the vehicle inoperable and potentially life threatening. If I had the funds I would buy a different vehicle. I bought this vehicle because I thought it was safe and good on gas mileage. I do not have any extra funds to buy another vehicle. My concern is for the safety of my son and myself and I am appalled that a company does not seem to stand behind its product after this many recalls. Please help,.

No warning chimes and no turn single chime. Several weeks ago I lost all warning chimes on my car. So at this time I have no chimes for 1. Seat belts not buckled. Door ajar. 3. Low or flat tire. 4. No turn single chime. In fact non of the chimes are now working.

Vehicle will shut off without warning as I am driving and when I try to turn it back on the engine seems to struggle to turn on. I have no check engine light on dash board.

My boyfriend and I were on our way home from chicago (on I-80/90) when we hit a bit of lake effect snow and ice. The snow caused our car to lose traction which in turn caused us to hit a guard rail head on while going roughly 50-55 mph. Our airbags did not go off even though we hit the guard rail head on. We ended up being perpendicular in the right hand lane and was hit by a semi truck on the passenger side door. Again, our air bags did not go off which would make for a total of 4 airbags that were affected. I was unaware of affected air bags - I only knew about my ignition switch which was fixed months prior to the accident. Unacceptable.

Ran over a rock which did some damage to the underneath of my car. . . . Took it to goodyear because it was closest. They "worked on it to the tune of over $7,000 and the engine light has continued to come on since the day I drive it home, which I pointed out to them before driving away I have gone back numerous times only to be told that things will be okay, but if the engine light starts blinking to get it to them ASAP. I don't know how to download photos or documents.

I have been trying to get my recalled ignition fixed. In the brochure that they sent me to notify me it says that I will get a complimentary vehicle while mine is fixed. I called 2 dealers one in burlingame and one in colma and they were rude as if I were asking a favor and told me I would have to rent a car that they don't give complimentary vehicles. In March I called their 800 number 1-800-222-1020 they gave me the runaround and told me they would call me back. I want this to be proof that I am trying to get my vehicle fixed in case an accident happens because of the recall parts and they say it is my fault for not trying to get it fixed.

On 03jun14 I had the ignition switch replaced and the ignition lock cylinder and ignition key replaced due to the open recalls on the vehicle. Since that time on 2 separate occasions when I attempted to start the vehicle it "stuttered" this is the best word I can use to describe the issue. I did not have this problem prior to having the above mentioned replaced. When this occurs I have to turn the ignition key to the off position and attempt to start the vehicle again and it starts. The "stuttering" does not sound like a dead battery or alternator issue as I have heard those sounds before. I do not believe the replacement of the above parts have resolved any recall issue and believe that injury or death will result in continued driving of this vehicle. Thank you for your time.

Recived a recall letter for 14113 replace ignition lock cylinder and ignition. . . Called dealer nesmith GMC and told them about the problem with the car. They told me that it would take 2 to 4 weeks for them to get the parts. Well now it has been 2 months and stiil not fix. Called nesmith GMC and they told me that it will be a bit longer. . My wife and I do not liking driving car because of this problem. . We are in our 60's and we do have to drive car for doctors. Shopping and things like that. . Thank you.

3 recalls on this vehicle. Faulty ignition switch & air bags which affects steering, brakes causing 21 deaths to date. I want released from this car loan as it is unsafe to drive. Lienholder says its not their problem, gm has no idea when parts to fix will ever be available. They say my car has too many miles to qualify for a buy back :(.

The cruise control works sometimes then for no reason will cut off and stop working. In the last 8 days when I start up the car to drive and get on the road, sever shaking of the car like a flat tire or the front end was out of alignment. The first time I called on starr for assistance. They found nothing wrong? it stopped both times after about 8 min of driving. It was scarry. When I park the car the dial hands on the dash the tac. And the speed dial jump like a shortage in it. Not long after I bought the car, the power steering failed with me and the car shut off several times. I took it to vidalia GA for repair. They gave it back to me and said if it happened again to push the info button and restart the car. I am scared of my car. Help me please.

I was driving in the highway and the power steering gave a warning with a sound suddenly the steering was hard to move and I have to reduce the speed because I was afraid to crash with this problem. I park the car and shut off the engine and turn it on again, but after 2minutes driving it the power steering once again stop working. I decided to go to the deqaler and left the car telling them there is a recall for the power steering. They took the car and after two days they said that the car wasnt include it in the recall. Now I have this problem and making payment and in top of that with a broken car. Gm need to step up and take responsiblity for what they make. Year 2010 and already giving a lot of troubles. Also the dealer where I bouht the car didnt said nothing about this problem. United auto sale from new hartford,NY need to be more honest when they want to sale a car with many problems like this. They only care to sell you a car and nothing else. Also gm need to stop making car with so many recall like this one or fix the recall and move on. Im speaking also for many people who encounter the same problem like me.

My giirlfriend and I were drving down the interstate early one morning. There was no rain or bad road conditions and prays god hardly any traffixc at all. One minute everthing was fine and within a split second there was a loud thud below our feet. My girlfriend lost control of the vehicle and we were thrown accross the middle of the intetstate and slammed into the guard cables which at that point in time the air bags deployed. The guard cables catapolted us back across the interstate were we was finally able to get the car stopped. The first question out of the arkansas state troopers and the local county offiers mouths to us was,"what happened to your whole driver side wheel?". The trooper went on to explain that this was obviouly not a "blowout" due to the fact there was absolutely no trash on the road or off the road the road tha would be consistent with a blow out. Thats when we told him the car had been taken to the Chevrolet dealership were the car was purchased not 9 days prior to the accident and the wheels and tires and been rotated, the oil changed and an inspection completed on the car and they tried to say everything checked out ok. Well now just as a passenger I have 2 fractured vertabrae in my back, cant sleep, had to quit school and I have no idea of which way to turn to get the help I need. Friends please be careful driving these cars. Please. I feel like this is a Chevrolet malfuntion or defective part. Now what do I do?.

The driver's side door will not open! it appears that the handle is not "attached" to anything. Yet on looking into the incident online there are reports of this happening, and the "solution" is to band your hand on the outside of the door to release it. The first time this worked, however it is only after climbing out of the vehicle from the opposite side to do this. Being someone is in an accident or unable to crawl across the car and out an opposite door, they will most likely perish or become wounded from not being able to exit their car. Fatalaities. Is this what it will take for them to acknowlege there is a problem?? this is a serious matter and needs to be addressed.

In 2012 I had an incident, my key was stuck in the ignition with the car running. I took it to the dealer, the ignition lock cylinder was removed, and they found the spring hold down plate was off and the spring was out of the cylinder, they replaced the ignition lock cylinder. Then, the recall happened and in Feb of 2015 I had to bring my car in for the product safety recall, they replaced the ignition and start switch. In may or June 2015 I noticed that my car was acting weird, the speedometer was acting erratic jumping from 30 to 60 then back down to 20. It was jumping all over the place even when the car was just idling then it would stall out. I took it in to the dealer the last week of June or the 1st week of July, they changed the module panel and said it was under warranty. I drove my car out of state on July 17th, on the way home it started acting up again, the engine seemed to lose power when getting on the highway, the speedometer was acting all erratic and the car was bucking like it wanted to stall. When I got home I brought it back to the dealer on July 28th, the car was there all day but they said they could not replicate the issue so when I got off work I went up there and the tech took a ride with me, the car acted up and he got to see what it was doing, he mentioned something about a cluster panel to the service manager but said he had to check with gm. On Friday the 31st of 2015 they put in another ignition thinking the other may have been faulty. The tech called me to see how the car was running an hour later, the car was doing the same exact thing. I am taking it in tommorrow Aug 3rd but I'm not sure what will happen. My car has 59,800 miles and I just paid it off on July 31, 2015 it is unsafe to drive. While idling the speedometer jumped to 120 mph then stalled out. It stalls out at lights and stop signs and tries to stall when I am driving,.

Investigation: this is the initial report of the motor vehicle accident. They found the victim deceased in the motor vehicle, caused by the defective chevy Cobalt. According to the police report, the fatal accident was due to poor pre-trip preparation by consuming alcoholic beverages and poor driving strategy. Updated 04/09/14.
