3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2016

I was driving home this morning and a deer jumped out in front of me. I slammed on the brakes and the engine shutoff. Making the power brakes and steering shutoff. Extremely dangerous not to mention if there is no power most likely the airbags will not deploy. A serious issue for a car that is less than 6 years old with around 80,000 miles on it. Just a disclaimer it is an automatic so there is no clutch.

4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

I have a chevy Cobalt lt 2010. I got it used with 40000 miles on last year. I was in my car driving back home from school. All the sudden I smelled gas or burned oil. It is happening every once a while but I never paid attention to it. I pulled over. I turned my car off and I turned it back on in some couple minutes. Also it takes me a while to switch the gear when I am in the highway. The brakes also are not working as I am pushing them hard. They have a delay to stop my car. I did not know anything about the chevy Cobalt recall. When I got the notification letter from gm I realized that I should report these issues that have been constantly happening to my car. I am student. I do really need my car for my daily commute. I am going to ask gm to rent a car for me until the part gets fixed. However, even after this car gets fixed I am thinking that this car is not reliable to drive any more. I am not really feeling safe driving this car. I have heard that there have been some accidents due to the engine ignition issues and other issues regarding to this car. I am really scared about driving my car again, even if this gets fixed.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

3 recalls on this vehicle. Faulty ignition switch & air bags which affects steering, brakes causing 21 deaths to date. I want released from this car loan as it is unsafe to drive. Lienholder says its not their problem, gm has no idea when parts to fix will ever be available. They say my car has too many miles to qualify for a buy back :(.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2014

After coming to a stop at a red light, with the brake applied the car started lunging forward. It does not happen every time, but happens often. It feels like you are sitting there pumping the brakes when you are not and have pedal pressed all the way down.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2012

Vicenza, italy. Roads were clear and it was 12am, not many cars were on the road. I was headed to work and as I was coming into a small traffic circle, the car began drifting, I let go of everything and the whole thing shut off: engine and lights. Another car was coming in but noticed I was drifting so they slowed down. I was headed into a ramp and tried to stop with my breaks which didn't work. I tried restarting the car but the key was stuck. I tried turning the wheel, but that was stuck. I finally got the car to somewhat slow down with the emergency break, and barely missed the ramp. I had recently had an oil change and my breaks checked, so I know my car was fine. It later happened again a few months later. Very similar situations. I have new tires and had my axles inspected, I know there is something wrong with my car and it is not safe. The most recent one was a few months ago at 0600. I used my breaks because an animal jumped in front of the car. The car slowed down, then the gas wouldn't work, the steering wheel locked and I almost hit another car as I struggled to turn it and the breaks would not work. The car then completely shut off and I was stuck with the car not waning to start. I took it to get inspected again, and thy said it was fine. I don't know who else to contact since GMC here and stateside, and he dealership I purchased it from in the states, are ignoring me.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2012

2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. Consumer writes in regards to recommending a recall concerning seat belt stops the consumer stated the seat belt stops failed twice. When they broke, the seat buckle dropped on the strap below the seat between the rocker panel, which made it nearly impossible to retrieve the buckle. The consumer stated the part was an inexpensive two-part button that went through the strap which stopped the bucket from sliding down on the belt. The dealer replaced the driver's seat belt stop. The consumer stated the rear brakes did not adjust. The dealer indicated the rear brakes need to be adjusted. The dealer indicated, he would have to pay to have them adjusted. However, it appeared the dealer acknowledged that the rear brakes were suppose to automatically adjust, upon backing up. The consumer also stated one day while driving, he heard a loud sound. Soon after, about 1/2 gallon of water spilled onto the passenger floor and then continued to drip down the blower motor/ the dealer stated the ac drain evaporator box filled up from the outside drain. The dealership did not nothing to clear off the cowl area and they did not attempt to vacuum up the water. Updated 08/20/12.

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2012

Vehicle became hard to steer and lost power and the brakes would not work. Nothing on the car would work and finally I was unable to fight the wheel anymore and the car flipped. None of the airbags deployed. I think than an investigation for the newer models of the Cobalt be done as well. From the description that was given for the suit that is now ongoing with the gm ignition problem, my car did the exact same thing. We could have been killed in this accident,. I have photos of the vehicle. It was horrible.

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2011

Driving a rented 2010 chevy Cobalt lt, 4 door. Had rented the vehicle from alamo rental cars on 7/2/11 the accident happened on 7/6/11. My wife and I were driving on I-4 east just outside orlando, fla. When the driver in front of me put on his brakes, I applied the brakes on the Cobalt and immediately the car was violently out of control. The car going out of control was so violent I thought we had been hit from the rear. Once the car went out of control I could not control it at all. We crossed all 3 lanes of freeway and hit the left rear tandem wheels of an 18 wheeler. The car finally came to a stop in the center lane facing in the opposite direction of traffic flow. Just a few more inches toward the passenger compartment when contact was made with the 18 wheeler and this would have been a fatal accident. I have been beating myself up trying to figure out why just applying the brakes would cause such a violent and uncontrollable turn of events. Then I started research on the web and found that brake issues with the Cobalt is not a new issue. There is data on brake problems and individuals accounts of what happened to them when their Cobalts went out of control just from applying the brakes. Many of these accounts stated that dealers found no problems with the brakes following these instances of going out of control and in many cases being involved in accidents. This was the most horrific incident my wife and I have ever been involved in and the reality is that we were involved in this incident simply because I applied the brakes on the 2010 chevy Cobalt rental. We were not hit from behind and there were no other vehicles involved with the exception of the 18 wheeler.

Rear brakes on a Cobalt ss in 2010 squeak after 1,000 to 2,000 miles and start to put big gashes in the rear rotors.

14 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

2010 Chevrolet Cobalt ss. Very loud brake squeal coming to a stop 20km and under (louder than a city bus). This has occurred consistently from 2500km. The car has been in the shop a dozen times, every time they machine the brakes and tell me the squeal is normal for high end brakes. I have driven porches, high end performance vehicles like sti's, 350z's, s2000's even high end BMW's, corvettes and ferraris, none of which have a "normal" squeal.
