36 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/05/2016

I was driving the car on the highway, going about 38 mph and the power steering warning beeped and displayed on my dash. The steering tightened up a bit, and the car slowed down, as I was driving (I don't know what the car slowed down to because the speedometer then dropped to zero, but the tachometer continued to rev (I want to say) between 2 & 3 rpm, while the car was still in motion. The locks were clicking up and down too while this was all happening. Then the car bucked and the speedometer began working. The power steering warning light remained lit during the whole time. I was able to pull into a parking lot for safety. This was clearly a driving safety issue due to the vehicle slowing down when the power steering warning light came on. There were other affected parts, but I was not able to select the boxes: electrical; other (speedometer) this also happened today: 07/10/16, prompting another complaint to be filed.

41 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 12/03/2015

It doesn't matter of I'm driving at just sitting at the traffic light but the t/c, engine lights come on n make my car jerk like it's the transmission kicking back so in March 2016 it got so bad to the point I could no longer even put my car in reverse so I had to have a brand new transmission which cost me $1500 then the same day I got it back all the lights came right back and I've taken it several times to the mechanic and it gives him a p1174, p0014 code. I'm afraid one day while I'm driving my car is just going to fall apart with how badly it jerks but once the t/c light does go off it stops jerking and will drive smooth but the engine light may or not still come on and makes my car drive sluggish n the rpm guages go crazy like I can accelerate but the car doesn't seem to be accelerating.

42 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 10/31/2015

Traction control light and power steering light came on while driving straight at about 80. The car became jerky while taking a slight left (almost like a delay in the steering wheel). Came to a light and the idle starting flirting. Drove forward it lurched a bit went and pulled in. While stopped I shifted between drive, park rev, the transmission would slam into gear. Idle fluttered. Shut off vehicle for 20 seconds lights and issue went away. Car is at 117,000km.

45 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 10/02/2015

Was driving at highway speeds going up a incline (hill) when my car chimed and a message read (engine power reduced) was in the outside passing lane with a semi behind me passing a slower moving car. Car power reduced to 30mph and lunged like not getting enough fuel. I barely missed a narrow escape of getting rear ended. Got over in the slow lane the highway become narrow with no shoulder to pull over so I was going to drive till I could pull over but them another chime and my dash read (engine disabled) and motor shut off. Coast to someone's driveway and set there shaking from being scared for about 15 minutes. Decided to try ignition and the car restarted and was able to limp to a pull off and call for a tow home. I realize my car is out of warranty and has 119k miles on it but nobody should be faced with a situation like I was put in. Also I contacted my local dealer months ago about my ignition recall and was told they would order the parts then call me to bring my car in and like I said that was almost 3 months ago and I have heard nothing no phone call.

46 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

Purchased this vehicle off a used car lot Feb/2015 within a month of use the transmission fluid lines broke. Got back on the road, several months later the check engine light comes on and the power steering sensor as well. The car immediately started to become harder to handle. I'm scared that it will cut out on my wife and infant.

47 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

We left the yard and got a quarter mile sown the road when the instrument panel went whacky and then immediately lost the power steering. I had this problem fixed back in 2012 and there was a recall on it. I can not believe this is happening again. I am so worried I'm going to get hurt or hurt someone else because I am unable to steer. Thank god my fiancé was with me so he could drive us back to the house.

48 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/18/2015

I was driving 60mph down main highway when all the sudden the rpms went really high and the power steering indicator light came on. I pulled to the side of the road as soon as possible, turned the car of and back on started driving again. The car would not shift out of first gear and was hard to steer. Started going up a small hill to try and get it of main road and it stalled in the middle of the hill. These cars are nothing but a safety hazard and something needs to be done!.

Electrical warning light (t/c) reappear does not turn off through normal drive. Tempature display not obtain data for outside hear index. Power steering warning is showing during usual operation small resistance with turning of wheel not noticeable if unaware of car capabilities. Power train possible transmission failure no power going up a vertical highway height causes stoppage of momentum while excelerator is being applied to the max. Taken car to dealer for professional opinion considering the asking price being huge that number of defects are large only having the car for two years these problems are exhausting.

52 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

Some times the car will not start, reduced engine power, can not go long distance on turn pike, car will stall out. Fuel/propulsion system, has a problem also, but will not let me click on box above.

53 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 04/28/2015

This is the second time this issue has happened. The issue is when turning on an on-ramp that has sharp turning radius the car abs system turns on and you lose control of the car. This also happens when you are already on a freeway that has a sweeping on ramp to another freeway the abs starts to brake in the turn. I have reported this issue to the dealership and they have not addressed it.

54 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 02/25/2015

While driving home the Chevrolet Cobalt (which we've only had for two weeks) engine shut off, luckily we were in the neighborhood going slow when this happened. I started the car up again and pressed on the gas but it would not go forward, now only the reverse works.

55 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 02/10/2015

The first time it happened, was at interstate speeds. (60 to 70mph) the second, was in city stop and go traffic. The third was backing out of my driveway after a 5 minute idle. The fourth was when my last mechanic was test driving it because he thought he'd fixed it. Dash lights blink on and off, all warning lights come on, engine cooling fans stop operating, transmission hunts for what gear it should be in; resulting in the transmission self destructing. Engine management, other than the cooling fans, seems to be unaffected. I've replaced 4 tcm's so far; as all mechanics say that is the problem. It works for a few days or a week, then the same problem manifest. This seems to be a problem with quite a few gm vehicles.

56 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 01/25/2015

Was driving on highway at 65mph and car shut off with no warning and reading engine disabled. Pulled over turned it off and back on the same thing happend 5 minutes later.

57 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 12/07/2014

I was driving on the freeway when I changed lanes and lost control of my vehicle. My anti-lock braking system did not work as it was supposed to; my traction control did not work as it was suppose to, which resulted in me losing control of my vehicle and hitting another vehicle. A month earlier, I took my vehicle to rancho motor company to have a recall part on my vehicle fixed. They noticed that my abs and traction control lights were on. They ran a diagnostics test on the vehicle. When I picked up my vehicle, they informed me there was nothing physically wrong with my vehicles abs and traction control systems but the software was outdated and needed to be updated.

58 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 12/04/2014

Driving on the highway at 60 mph when all electrical dashboard went down. First light to come on the the vehicle was the security system light which was explained to me that your car is suppose to shut down if stolen then it went off after a few minutes. Once that light went off then the vehicle abs, traction control lights came on and the vehicle could not pick up speed nor drove properly or safely. The vehicle cruise control also went off. Power steering light came on too. The vehicle lost power for abs, traction control, cruise control and power steering. Once pulled over on side of the road the check engine light came on too. Tried to start driving the vehicle again to get it off the highway vehicle was difficult to drive couldn't reach speed very slow - did not drive properly. Safely pulled over again and shut vehicle off. Check engine light and other lights on dash stayed on. Could not get key out of ignition it stayed in the 2nd switch stuck (not running). Tow truck driver had to come and tow because vehicle wouldn't start nor would the key come out. Finally tow truck driver was able to get the key out of the ignition and towed it to a shop. Next day shop turned on the vehicle and could not find anything wrong. Dealer could not find anything wrong with electrical panel. Ran numerous test on vehicle including dealer driving vehicle and still nothing could be found. They say they can't fix anything because nothing is wrong with my car. Obviously there is something wrong with Chevrolet vehicles and the electrical panels going down in which I lost all cruise control, traction control, abs, electronic stability control and panic braking assist operation. Thankfully I was not in an accident and was able to pull off the highway safely.

59 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 10/06/2014

I live in buffalo, NY so this is more of a problem than not. During the cold months whent he temperature goes below 20 degrees the car fails to start. I have replaced the fuel pump, spark plugs, intake, mass air flow sensor, and battery. I will be trying the crankshaft position sensor next. The car will crank strong, and continue to crank for several minutes. It will then stop, and begin to crank again when the key is again turned. However the car never turns over. The only thing I can imagine is that something is communicating with the ecm or ecu, not to start. This only occurs when it is very cold out as I purchased the car in late September, therefore I have to experience with the vechile in warm temperatures.

60 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 09/23/2014

I was driving around 55 mph in traffic. I heard a chime and the display on the dash said power steering disabled, the orange indicator for traction control disabled illuminated, the tachometer jumped around and the transmission shifted extremely hard into gear. I struggled to pull over to the sholder and the car slammed into park. I shut the car off and back on. It still shifted hard so I let it stay off for five minute. After that the car was fine. As an experienced mechanic it felt like the car lost communication with one of the computers. No dtcs were stored. There are a lot of complaints about this online as well.

61 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 06/25/2014

Driving on highway and heard three dings and my car flashes power steering, it was difficult to steering to the next lane to try and get off the freeway then it just suddenly started working fine. But now I'm worried that it will happen again. I've received two letter about the recal but no dealer in my area has the parts, was told I'd be called when they arrive.

62 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 06/21/2014

On 6/22/14, I was coming home from philadelphia and while on the brunswick highway, my 2005 chevy Cobalt's dashboard lit up like a christmas tree and I lost my power steering, traction control, brakes, abs, engine lock, door locks were clicking on and off and I had to pull over 4 times off the highway. My odometer didn't work either. This also made my transmission jerk and slip. It was so bad that when it was switching gears, it was making my entire car shake. I was afraid for my life. I nearly crashed into a semi-truck because my brakes and power steering didn't work. Also, I couldn't go below 65mph on the highway because the transmission was slipping. I made it home but I was still shocked and scared. The next day I took it to the dealership to get it looked at. I thought it was the recall problem with the ignition but they couldn't find what the main cause was. They said it wasn't ignition but some sort of computer glitch. All they did was reset the computer and recommended me to buy anew car battery. I got the new battery and every was fine. On 7/714, the same issue happened again but worse. It happened while my car was parked and again the dashboard lit up. Everything went off again, I lost my power steering, traction control, brakes, abs, engine lock, door locks were clicking on and off. It took me 6 times restarting the car for the dashboard to be cleared, and then 5 minutes again, the car chimed, and I lost my power steering, traction control, abs and the odometer didn't work again. I nearly crashed again too. I took it again to the the dealership. On 7/8/14, they told me they replaced the recalled ignition switch, but they still couldn't find the root of the cause of the major electrical issue in my car. They did say my car isn't safe to drive on the road. They asked me to leave it for a couple of days to see if they can find the problem.

63 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 06/05/2014

My electrical power steering fails when driving. This failure just started a month ago. 67 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 04/09/2014

Received notice of recall. Took my car to dealership service center. Still have not heard anything in regards to the part being available. I took everything off the keyring as suggested. Since then I have locked myself out of my home and car. This has been a terrible inconvenience for me. It is easier when my keys are together for sure! I am a patient person but for goodness sakes! I cannot keep worrying about locking myself out of car and home everyday for who knows how long. Please!!!!!! when are the parts going to be available?.

Then the check engine light appeared and the traction control off warning appeared. Additionally the power steering light indicated it was off. No injuries occurred as I was coming to a stop when incident happened. When driving my auto to the dealer, I noticed the rpm reached 4500 at about 50 mph. Steering took some effort without power steering.

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

On Saturday March 29th 2014 I had my recall fixed on the power steering at ryan chevorlet here in minot nd. I get it fixed and parked my car at home until Monday April 1st I am driving down the highway and come to a stop light then I began to hear a clicking noise in my dashboard then a notification pops up for my traction control. As I start to move my speedometer is moving from 10 to 20 but im barely going 5. My rpm's are going up also then a notification for my power steering comes up then im worried. I get to my destination and my power steering goes out and I can not turn the vehicle and it shuts completely off. I try to turn it on and it turns over just doesnt start. I call the chevy dealer here and they say they will take a look at it. They had my vehicle for a while just to tell me my car needed gas. Does this make sense or am I being fooled? I have research this issue and it seems like it has happened before to other people. Could someone help me?.
