1 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 08/19/2011

I experiences first a gas odor in my vehicle that was extremely uncomfortable as I was not able to drive my vehicle. I then was able to see a visible gas leak coming from the fuel tank of my vehicle. After having a mechanic look at the vehicle, it has been concluded that the cap on the fuel tank has malfunctioned. I have investigated the vehicle and the problem and I know there is a recall for my vehicle and this issue however only in specific states. Therefore, it acknowledges that there was a factory issue involving this year of chevy Cobalt. I will likely be paying around $600 out of pocket for the repairs in order to keep my vehicle in driving condition.

2 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 11/18/2009

2006 chevy Cobalt, 64, 000 miles. The car leaks fuel from the fuel pump hose on top of the gas tank near the exhaust pipe location which could be a source of ignition. It happens every time you start the car. I took it to the local chevy dealer, they repaired the car for about $600. 00. I was told there was no recall on this model. I found from the gm web site and the NHTSA site that in fact gm has recalled 53000 of these cars for this exact same problem. I was assigned a specialist and a case number and gm was investigating if I qualify for financial assistance. After 3 days of gm investigating, they decided my VIN number doesn't match with this recall. They said the car is out of warranty, and I argues that this is a safety recall for 53000 other Cobalts and similar models, not a warranty issue at all, its a safety recall. They said their decision was final, and I will receive no financial help. The gm recall number is 090226. The NHTSA campaign number id number is 09v419000. The mechanic described my cars problem exactly how the recall reads, and the recall says at no cost to the customer this part will be replaced by the dealer. Gm only said no to free replacement because of a VIN number that has not been input into their recall system.

3 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 11/02/2009

Fuel leak from top of gas tank on 2006 chevy Cobalt. Dripping gas & leaving line of gasoline when car moves. Leaking where fuel line from fuel filter connects to fuel pump(sending unit) which is on top of gas tank. Dripping about six inches from exhaust pipe. Internet search discovered other post with similar leakage. Hoses are formed/pressed on connection. To replace hoses & fix leak requires replacing the fuel pump with the hoses already attached.

5 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 05/31/2009

Problem: I have a 2007 chevy Cobalt that is leaking fuel from under the car at the gas tank. I called the parts department were we purchased the car to see were the fuel filter is located. He told me that just yesterday a customer came in who owned the same year and model who also had a leak at the same location at the fuel tank. The parts person told me that the fuel pump is in the tank. The smell of gasoline in the car is extremely bad. It almost smells like it is leaking into the car. Question: is this a problem that other 2007 chevy customers are having? what can I do about this dangerous situation?.

6 Tank Filler Pipe And Cap problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 02/05/2009

Yesterday I filled up the car with gas and I smelled the gasoline. I checked out my car and I found out that my gas tank was leaking from the connector that connects the gas tank to the rubber hose that leads to the metal pipe that you insert gas from. This happened two times after filling up completely. It appears that the weld process that seals the connector to the gas tank was not sealed properly and started to crack. Today I had to replace my gas tank for the first time and I don't believe I am going to be the only one with this problem. Personally I think its a problem Chevrolet has had for awhile. I also heard on the radio that the new version of the trial blazers had a recall on their gasoline tanks for leaking problems too. My purpose for my complaint is to prevent this from happening to anyone else and notify Chevrolet of the problem so they can fix it. Yes I do still have the old part.
