2 Wheel problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 06/16/2020

While in motion the service air bag light come on and goes off randomly. A malfunction in the sensor or other area has lead to premature air bag deployment in other's vehicles. Airbags are a safety feature that give piece of mind that I currently do not have. This is the car we are considering handing down to our teenage son but am concerned with this warming that will not go away. The low tire pressure light randomly comes on as well, even when tires have adequate air.

6 Wheel problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 01/31/2017

Takata recall: my air bag sign probably in the beginning of January had appeared, and obviously they have not been working. I had gotten into an accident on January 31st and they did not deploy. I am not positive if this is a part of the recall situation, but it happened out of no where, I just turned my car on one day and it stopped working. Also in the accident my car was sitting at a red light and hit between the range of 35-40 mph.

10 Wheel problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/31/2015

Wheels- the control arm bushings wear tremendously and rattle making the steering wheel shake uncontrollably. Steering- the steering wheel has a ton of "play" before it engages in a turn. Brakes- the rear drums and shoes wear excessively fast causing severe deterioration and grinding.

11 Wheel problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/16/2015

The morning after coming back from a trip I went down to get in my colbalt and found my left front tire flat. I got my manual out to read how to change the tire and changed it. We noticed the size difference in the tires right away, regular tire is p205/55r16 h, the spare is a t115/70d15 m. These are the original tires that Chevrolet put on the car. The manual said we could go normal speed. I drove a block to get the tire fixed and turned around and went back home. The car dipped horrible and dragged when I pulled back into my drive way. It also made rubbing sounds. It did not fill safe to drive. We took the tire in and had it fixed without the car, brought it home and put it back on car. I have been in contact with Chevrolet since then to see if it was an error on the spare. They have told me that it is the right spare, although a couple of the people that I have talked to thought it was bad to have a 15 inch spare with 16 inch tires. They also told me that what I need to do is if the flat is on the front I'm suppose to change two tires. They told me to put a back tire on the front and the spare on the back, which is not the direction in the manual. They told me I can go 50 mph and get the tire fixed as soon as possible. So now out on a busy highway they want me to change two tires and have the back of my car dip horribly. I feel this spare is unsafe because it is smaller then the tires it is replacing. It makes the car tilt so you can't drive at safe speeds not to say the damage you can do to your car. I leave in a rural area and some of the roads don't have enough shoulder to change one spare let alone two.

12 Wheel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 05/02/2015

Was driving when the steering locked up as I was starting around a small curve in the road. Could not steer and went off the road into a yard and struck a tree. Insurance company totaled vehicle.

13 Wheel problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 04/20/2015

When I drive the air bag warrning goes on,and the tire stress goes on(which make me slow down worried ! ). I replaced the tires couple of times but I still get those warning(tires stress and air bag). Lately I also ran to problem with my engine. I took it to pep boys were they said I should replace it for 5700$.

14 Wheel problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

I began to smell gas after exiting the vehicle. I traced the smell to an apparent leak coming from the top of the tank where the lines from the fuel filter are routed over the top of the tank. I discovered the recall for fuel pump plastic part failures in warm weather states, also 2009 Cobalt, but, georgia is not listed (I'll tell you it is a warm weather state). Also, in regards to another individual's complaint NHTSA id number: 10668977, I discovered my tpms were backwards about three years ago when I had an unexpected flat. The low pressure indicated by the tpms directed me to the wrong tire. One of the tpms stopped working within days of driving the car off the lot. Other issues: 1) multiple times I have placed a small item like a phone in the passenger seat and the passenger air bag turns off - seems hyper sensitive, not nearly the weight of an infant 2) my front speakers don't play unless the weather is warm (wiring harness/connectors?).

15 Wheel problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 10/21/2014

I was on my way home and it was raining on the expressway but by the time I got to the city I live it had stop. I was exiting the expressway and was turning a left on the street I live on. I had made my turn at about 30 mph and after I had made my turn the car was straight for awhile then all the sudden the car acted up and the steering wheel or the wheels or something happen that made my car make a sharp u-turn going in front of ongoing traffic. My car went straight in front of a car and she didn't have time to stop so she hit me and we both went onto the island. I have no idea what happened but luckily we were both going slow that none of us were hurt but our cars were in bad conditions. I'm looking at 3,000 damage on my car, and probably 4,000 damage to her car. I want to say it was bc of the rain, but the road wasn't wet and I just got new tires and just got a oil change. I maintain my car very well so I have no idea why that would happen.

16 Wheel problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 04/16/2014

At approximately 48000 miles the wheel bearing hub went out. I thought this was unusual for this many miles. Is posed for the left front driver side.

17 Wheel problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 03/10/2014

Left front wheel bearing failure. Very dangerous !!!.

18 Wheel problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 03/01/2014

Vehicle was being towed behind class a motorhome. Key was in the accessory position; transmission (automatic) was in the neutral position; fuse block:8 (ignition switch, pass-key iii+) was removed to prevent battery drain; per vehicle manual for dinghy towing. Traveling on interstate 45; 95 miles south of dallas, TX. Nothing was hit when traveling. Both front tires blew out, subsequently ruining both front tires and wheels. There is no apparent reason why this happened. Was wondering if this may be connected with current safety recall on ignition problem on Chevrolet Cobalt. The key chain had three keys and the key fob attached.

19 Wheel problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 02/26/2014

As I was driving down the street to turn into my parking lot I started turning the wheel left when I turned my steering wheel and brakes locked up and drove over the curb of my apartment complex causing my whole right side of my car $1300. 00 worth of damage this is the second time this has happened to me first time no damage was done that was back in October.

20 Wheel problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 12/09/2013

My tires consistently lose air at an accelerated rate. Despite replacing all tires, this problem persists. I have been told that replacing the rims will resolve the issue. I feel that this recommendation is premature given the age of the car. The rims should not have corroded so much to the point where I have to replace them after 5 years. I have to pump air into my tires 2 times a week to maintain a safe pressure for driving.

21 Wheel problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 08/03/2013

Passenger air bag sensor works intermittently. Ignition shuts car off when hitting bumps as well as not turning off completely when parked. Front right wheel bearings continue to fail, replaced 3 times in 3 years.

22 Wheel problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 08/03/2013

When I drive my car over 60 I get a sway side to side and I feel like its going to sway in to another car when I go by them. I had it in a chevy dealership to have it fixed and they did nothing but put a pull in the car and it sill sways. I think it has to do with the rack in the car and or the electrical steering in the car. The dealership says " its been fixed in the first recall" well I am saying its not so I think it should be recalled again and fixed right this time. . . .

23 Wheel problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

Hit a pot hole, not a very big one going less than the speed limit and the rim bent. Later, since I could not afford to replace the rim, the tire exploded and I was stranded 3 hours from home. Since then 2 more wheels have bent and cannot be fixed only replaced with more crappy rims.

24 Wheel problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 04/13/2013

The key is stuck in the ignition switch and will not shut off. Called chevy and they will not stand behind it. All of the 2009's got recalled because of that incident, but they will do nothing for me about my 2010!! we did however, disconnect the battery so it wouldn't go dead! I bought a brand new car and now I am having issues, didn't buy a new car to have issues!!.

25 Wheel problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 03/19/2013

Driving down a gravel road when I had to swerve to avoid an on comming car that was in my lane. The steering seemed to lock up and as a result I hit the gaurd rail.

26 Wheel problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 02/22/2013

I had notice trouble not too long after I purchased the car in Jan 2012 due the cars shimmy. I noticed the tires going low & thought that was it. Then kept noticing the tread wearing away more quickly that it should have been because the tires looked pretty new when car was purchased. It wasn't until my father told me I better get new tires because the treads were about shot & the tires were bulging. I took it to a very reputable tire business where the mechanic told me there was no way he could put tires back on the rims as 3 of them were bent to hell. This is why the tires were wearing quickly. He said he had been in business for 30 years & you don't normally see 3 rims bent up like that & they had to be defective & I should go back to where I bought the car. I had to have my vehicle towed from PA to OH where I live!!. I made an appt with the service dept at the dealership where I bought the vehicle & the manager stated he cannot help me since it was out of warranty!!! didn't even look at it!! I cannot afford to buy 3 new rims & tires!!! you cannot find used one as I'm sure they are all shot to hell too!!! I have researched the internet & am finding there have been rim bending problems for years on the chevy Cobalt!!! this is a huge safety hazard & could cause a accident!! I don't understand why they are still putting these cheap bendable rims on these cars!!! something needs to be done!!!! I bought a newer car because I didn't want to have to be dumping money into it all the time!! I bought a $2000 extended warranty that doesn't cover my problem either!!! all 3 of these tires look like they could blow at any second, but I'm almost forced to drive this car because I can't afford to buy these new rims which I feel are defective from the manufacturer.

27 Wheel problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 01/25/2013

My giirlfriend and I were drving down the interstate early one morning. There was no rain or bad road conditions and prays god hardly any traffixc at all. One minute everthing was fine and within a split second there was a loud thud below our feet. My girlfriend lost control of the vehicle and we were thrown accross the middle of the intetstate and slammed into the guard cables which at that point in time the air bags deployed. The guard cables catapolted us back across the interstate were we was finally able to get the car stopped. The first question out of the arkansas state troopers and the local county offiers mouths to us was,"what happened to your whole driver side wheel?". The trooper went on to explain that this was obviouly not a "blowout" due to the fact there was absolutely no trash on the road or off the road the road tha would be consistent with a blow out. Thats when we told him the car had been taken to the Chevrolet dealership were the car was purchased not 9 days prior to the accident and the wheels and tires and been rotated, the oil changed and an inspection completed on the car and they tried to say everything checked out ok. Well now just as a passenger I have 2 fractured vertabrae in my back, cant sleep, had to quit school and I have no idea of which way to turn to get the help I need. Friends please be careful driving these cars. Please. I feel like this is a Chevrolet malfuntion or defective part. Now what do I do?.

28 Wheel problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 12/28/2012

The rims on these 2007 Cobalts bend easy with the size of tire they are sold with. Any pot hole hit at speeds of 30 - 55 mph will bend these tire rims. I have replaced 2 rims at $ 111. 00 apeice and my back rims are bent also. Wal-mart, tiemans tire and other tire stores are aware of the bad rims on these Cobalts. You can not find any used rims anymore due to all are used to replace other bent rims on Cobalts. This can cause you to loose control of your car if a pot hole bends a rim an you loose all air pressure in the tire. It will act as though the tire blew out with sudden air pressure loss. It is not a safe car to drive with this problem.

29 Wheel problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 12/27/2012

The control arm bushings had to be replaced with less than 8000 miles on the car. They went so bad the car swerved and clanked and chattered when the brakes were applied. Less than 8000 miles on the car??? this is a joke. I see on the internet a lot of people with same complaints. Why no recall?.

30 Wheel problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/03/2012

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that a private mechanic advised him that the rims on the vehicle were cracking. The dealer was notified but offered no assistance. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The failure mileage was 50,000. The current mileage was 60,000.

31 Wheel problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 02/07/2012

Wheel bearings on the left front went out in Feb, 2012 then in July, 2015 the right one went out. In all of our other cars we have owned we never had to replace a wheel bearing let alone two so we assume there must be a defect.

32 Wheel problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 12/19/2011

My 2006 chevy Cobalt had wheel bearing issues starting at 40,000 miles. At 50,000 miles my front end suspension (lower control arm and bushings), struts, and doors locks started acting up. My door locks will jam and I will be trapped in my car until they (door locks) decide to work again. Fortunately for me usually only one stops working at a time. The dealer says that it just needs greasing; I have tried every grease under the sun and none has fixed the problem. This is a serious safety issue and this car should have a recall to at least fix the doors!!!. The dealer wants to charge over $1,000 per door for repairs. I have heard of some peoples doors never opening again and the door having to be cut off to be repaired. If something were to happen you need to be able to quickly and safely get out of the car. Please please please recall this door issue on the Cobalt!.

33 Wheel problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 11/22/2011

Unable to maintain control of steering, wheel control or braking.

34 Wheel problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that the rim on the front driver and passenger side wheels were cracked. The front driver side rim exhibited a crack approximately 3 inches long and the passenger side rim exhibited a crack about 7 inches long. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however they did not provide any assistance. The contact replaced the rim on the front passenger side wheel. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and referred the contact to the dealer. The VIN was unavailable. The current mileage was 62,000. The failure mileage was 40,000.

35 Wheel problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 10/01/2011

I purchased my 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt ss sedan a little over a year ago. Within the first several months, the emergency brake started to get extremely loose. It than completely stopped holding within 6 months and 40,000 total miles. After this incident, the rear brakes and rotors began to prematurely wear out extremely quickly. Since these are not covered under any warranty and dealerships refuse to fix the issue for free, it's very costly out of pocket for the repairs. I can't park anywhere near on or a hill, due to the emergency brake being completely broken. And the rear brakes and rotors need either repaired or resurfaced constantly every several thousand miles. My other major issue is with the tpms (tire pressure monitoring system) this has been giving me an error constantly for around 10,000 miles, on how it needs to be serviced. My car is garage kept with maintenance done on time, and well taken care of.
