Four problems related to steering gear box have been reported for the 1998 Chevrolet Corvette. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The steering coulmn box locked up when I had it in reverse and backing out of a parking spot. . I had it towed to chevy dealership to have the 98 vette worked on. I was told I had to replace the steering box . Which was a $270 part. If I was driving on the interstate and the steering locked up on me. Then what? . Thank you for your time. Ref. In ea02-031.
GMC issued a recall for this problem, my VIN was not covered, so GMC said I had to pay, even though my car has the same problem with the same failed part, my VIN is very close to those affected. No safety defect mentioned.
Replacement seatbelts not stocked, revised design not perfected.
The dealer denied of any recall, and said that I was mistaken in thinking there was a recall. It's real sad that our local chevy dealer isn't even aware there's a recall! no safety defect listed within summary.
