I received a notice in January 2017 that there was a fuel system problem (special notice 15682) and Chevrolet (gm) was going to extend the warranty for 10 years for my 2007 Corvette. I got the notice 10 years after gm acknowledged the problem so their remedy doesn't exist! the fuel smell is so excessive that I am afraid to keep the car in the garage so I took it to the dealer. I was told that since the car is 10 years old gm will not honor the notice. This is the second gm vehicle that I have had this same problem with (had it with a 2004 SUV) and gm refused to honor the recall because the serial number was not in the rage of their special notice even though it had excessive fuel odors. That one cost me $3200. Gm has a track record of sending notices (likely to avoid legal action or being forced into a recall) and not honoring them. This is highly unsafe and could cause fire/explosion. At this point it is my hope that your agency will force gm to recall all Corvettes with this problem and cover the associated costs . This notice says, in bold and underlining, do not take your vehicle to the Chevrolet dealer as a result of this latte unless you believe that your vehicle has the condition described above. I had inquired about this recall on 3/8/2017 at the dealer. Since the smell of fuel was not present I was told that it may not have been an affected vehicle.
Smell of gas in the cockpit.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette. While the vehicle was stationary and while driving various speeds, a strong odor of fuel entered into the cabin of the vehicle. A dealer and the manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 83,200.
Bad fuel smell after filling up vehicle. Did not overflow or top off. Smell fuel in cabin while car is in motion and stopped.
Received an extended warranty letter from chev in mid Feb 2017 stating my vehicle may experience fuel leak and if leak is suspected to have vehicle inspected at chev dealer and if vehicle has been in service for less than 10 yrs and has less than 120,000 miles, chev will repair at no charge. Vehicle was inspected at dealer (due to fuel oder) and condition was confirmed. Dealer will not honor repair and quoted cost at $1338. Chev customer service stated that vehicle was in service since Nov 2006 and extended warranty was no longer valid because it had exceeded the 10 yr parameter by 3 mo when issue was reported. Mileage was at 55,552. I believe the issue was present before Nov 2006 but the fuel odor was not detected until the letter was received and until I checked the vehicle (both stationary and in motion). This vehicle is generally not driven in winter months. I also believe that any fuel leakage is a safety hazard and that the leakage is caused by a design deficiency and affected vehicles should be recalled and repaired free of charge by the manufacturer regardless of delivery date (due to design deficiency). I will send a copy of this hazard report to Chevrolet. Their case # is 8-2782315093. Thank you for your assistance.
When I full it up with gas it leak very very bad.
Fuel smell coming from car while in garage. No indication of fuel on floor only fuel smell. Worried about water heater igniting fumes and causing a fire in the house.
Gas fumes constantly coming out from around the car mostly from the drivers side rear. . . . . Entering inside of car.
Gas smell in the entire car after filling up the tank because gas tanks leak and it’s dangerous because the fumes are strong enough that if there was an ignite and it was irked in a garage the garage and house would burn down.
My Corvette has extremely strong gas smell coming out of it, especially when it's not moving. The smell is extremely bad, which makes me worry about possible combustion.
Theres a strong gas smell inside and outside of car after every gas fill up .
I am smelling gas fumes coming from the driver side after driving. I can hear fuel dripping on the exhast when I park the car in my driveway which is on an slight incline. If it is not dripping on the exhast it's dripping on something hot because it makes a sizzling sound. Please help! should have a recall about this problem in my opinion. Lots of Corvette owners are dealing with this same issue.
Following a high performance driver education event, my 2007 Corvette caught fire while traveling at low speed (approximately 10 mph) on a 2-lane county road, with the fire originating in the area surrounding the passenger rear (right rear) wheel well. As soon as I was aware of the fire, I stopped the car, shut down the engine, and observed the fire on the top of the transmission and gearbox from the rear of the car. I obtained a fire extinguisher and attempted to extinguish the fire by deploying the contents beneath the car on the area of visible flame. I was unable to extinguish the fire under the first attempt and I began to remove the rear carpeting from the vehicle in the rear hatch and trunk area as the carpet had began to smolder. A second fire extinguisher was brought to the scene and the fire was put out. The fire had consumed a 2" x 6" section of the hatch (trunk) floor, which had melted onto the rear exhaust pipe. After the car was towed home and put up on jack stands, it appears that the charcoal canister and sections of the emissions system were consumed in the fire. It is inconclusive in my observation if these components were causal to the fire or merely consumed in the flames. Much of the rear wiring surrounding the differential and transmission has been destroyed by the fire. There are also visible remnants of liquid "drips" on the right rear exhaust pipe travelling over the rear differential but no conclusive source of the liquid was found. I would like to ensure that this failure was not systemic to the vehicle design or manufacturer so that other owners may be protected from similar failures.
The fuel guage went to empty and the fuel is full. I was told that it is the fuel sensor. Chevrolet wants $1600. 00 to fix the problem. The price is way out of line. Can I get some help.
After refueling, I can smell gasoline in the vehicule compartment.
On several occasion when I have filled my car I have had gas run out inside the fender. I have also smelled gas on several occasions after filling up.
