Very strong fuel smell when gas tank over half full explosion hazard.
Takata recall fuel tank smell when full.
Started to experience a strong fuel smell in my garage overnight September 2018. Took my car to local mechanic made me aware of gm service campaign bulletin #15682-03 primary tank module flange fuel and vapor leaks. Only covers 10 years or 120,000 miles. My exact 10 years expired the month prior (Aug 2018, my mileage is approximately 58,000. Gm will not honor the warranty because of the one month expiration. I contacted chevy cust assistance and gm cust service, opened three cases and each time told they would not fix the issue even if one day passed the warranty. How is gm getting away with this and not making it a recall for such a dangerous and sensitive issue. My garage and house smelled of gas fumes, the inside of my car was unbearable from the fuel smell and the potential for an explosion. And the cost to repair -- out of pocket is approx. $1500-$2000. I hope there is something you can do to help push this to save lives and get our hard owned money refunded for the repair. It's no wonder people don't buy USA cars.
Left side fuel tank still leaking after repair at chevy dealer during summer 2018. Cracked fuel tank on top of left fuel tank. Dealer replaced sending unit which also was faulty. Many other Corvette owners have this issue, chevy claims wear and tear, fuel tank is plastic and not a moving part . After start up cabin reeks of fuel and so does surrounding area. I. E garage under childs bedroom. Many 2008 Corvette owners have complained or have seeked help of this issue, but chevy only issued a 10 year 120k mile limited warranty. Chevy cobalts have a recall for faulty leaking fuel tanks chevy are replacing them but not chevy's flagship car. No incidents or accidents have happened, but its unsettling to know fuel is leaking on a hot exhaust and the smell of fuel in cabin while occupied and while stored in a garage after use.
Very strong fuel smell if the fuel tank is 3/4 to completely full. I have filled the tank up and have driven it, parked it in the garage, and then the next morning the garage smells like fuel. Very strong odor.
Top of fuel tank covered with raw fuel. Don't know exact source yet as car is in repair shop now. Will follow up with more later. Depending on fuel level in the tank, gas fumes are heavy or light. Possible fire or explosion if left in confined space.
There is a very strong fuel smell coming from the rear driver side of the car. It can be heavily concentrated inside the car if the windows are up and the fuel tank is full. With the car parked in my closed garage you could smell fuel inside my house. No fuel leak is visible. The smell us reduced as fuel level decreases. Excessive fuel consumption rate is also observed. The fuel smell is present at all times but is even worse when the car is in motion.
There is a very strong gas smell inside the car but no obvious leaks. The car does not appear to be using gas faster than anticipated. It smells strongest on the drivers side. Research has shown many owners had a problem like this with the fuel tank or fuel line. There was no obvious moment this started or event that caused this problem. The car just started smelling like gas.

Primary tank module flange fuel and vapor leaks. . . Instead of gm making a recall they are calling it an extended special warranty. The problem is I just recently purchased the vehicle and noticed if the fuel tank was over half full the fumes were unbearable. Its impossible to park inside my garage. The smell in the inside of the car is very strong. The recall (extended warranty) states that its only good for 10 years or 120k miles, but since my 2008 Corvette was initially sold on 10/25/17 and only has 40k miles they have refused to take care of this expensive, dangerous issue. They have acknowledged the safety concern, but have capped the time it can be repaired. Which makes zero sense. If its dangerous, its dangerous. I bought the car 12/2017 and immediately noticed the problem, but since I missed the deadline by less than 60 days they will not take responsibility. Https://gm. Oemdtc. There was a recall on my vehicle's fuel system which caused the car to smell like gas every single time I filled up the tank. Last year I received a letter from gm stating to bring it into the dealership to be repaired. They kept my car for over 5 months. They said they repaired the problem but it was not fixed. I called them to tell them the car still smelled like gas. This year I got hold of gm and they sent me back to the dealership. They said they needed to replace the fuel tank. They said they would only pay for 60% and I would be responsible for 40% and the problem I have with that is the fact that it was never repaired at all to begin with. I should not be responsible for the repair and can't afford it.
My independent mechanic noted some gas leaking from the drivers side fuel tank while doing maintenance. He could not see the source of the leak. I will take the car to a dealership for diagnosis and repair. Is this covered under emissions? the garage and passenger compartment now have a stronger smell of gasoline in the last week. I have noted website Corvette sites which state this is a frequent defect. Please advise if it is a emissions problem. It certainly has resulted in raw fuel being dumped into the atmosphere, and is an obvious safety concern.
Cracked/leaking drivers side fuel tank.
When I fill the gas tank there is a strong smell of gasoline in and around the car, when parked in the garage it be comes overwhelming. I'm afraid it could be a fire hazard. I researched the info and was advised to go to this web site. Im trying to find out if there is a recall to fix this problem.
Gas fumes gather in garage when car is parked. I've seen hundreds of the same complaint on the c6 Corvette model on web sites etc. No gas is dripping as many have reported it gathers on top of tank and then evaporates when driving. This is a potentially dangerous situation that gm should be correcting.
Whenever the car is more than 1/2 full with fuel, a very strong fuel smell leaks into the car. The smell is potent enough to make the entire garage smell like gasoline if parked overnight with the gas tank being over 1/2 full. Significant fuel leak around gas tank noted after inspection from local mechanic.
9/2017. Began to smell gas in and out of our 2008 Corvette, took car to a Corvette specialist. I was told there is hairline crack where the neck of the tack meets the tank body. Had tank replaced with a used tank. The car had not been wrecked or raced. Has less than 35k on it. I have documentation at Corvettes of houston.
Severe gas smell left in a closed area after Corvette use. When the car is driven and then parked in a garage, the garage smells severely of fuel. If aired out, the smell dissipates. If not, the odor is overwhelming. Upon review, it appears the smell is coming front the drivers side left-hand fuel tank. The leak affects the safety of the car passengers as the gasoline leak from the tank drips onto the exhaust. My mother is 94 years old and has ridden with me while this issue was occurring. Little did I understand the potential impacts on my families well-being. I believe this is a major safety hazard with this car. Upon cursory review of online Corvette chat groups, this seems to specifically affect this model Corvette. After further research, this problem seems to be prevalent in past Corvette models extending back to 1997. Upon contacting gm/Chevrolet service department we were told that our specific VIN number does not qualify for a recall. It's my understanding there is an extension of the warranty on this specific issue due to its prevalence. I also understand that the extension included milage to 80,000 miles and through August 17, 2017. My milage currently sits at 49,000 miles and we supposedly missed the deadline by 11 days as we reported this issue to the dealership on August 28, 2017. While we did purchase the car used, we never were told of the issue nor received paperwork to that affect so we were completely unaware of such a hazard. I strictly use dealerships for my service and am disappointed that they were not able to identify this issue in my opinion, it doesn't appear that the company is not interested in addressing my problem.

I am writing this in regards to my 2008 chevy Corvette. There is an issue of gas fumes coming from the car whenever the car is over half full. It vey bad and starts when the car gets over 30k-40k miles on them. I have been on forums and this seems to be an issue with 2008-2009 Corvettes having faulty parts around the gas tank which start to leak. Gm isn't doing anything about this issue and if not fixed can lead to gas mixing with hot exhaust and resulting in a fire or explosion of the cars fuel cell. I hope this helps get this issue resolved before someone gets seriously injured or killed.
A strong fuel odor is emanating from the car from the driver's side rear wheel well area where a tank is located. The odor is particularly strong when driving for a couple of hours in 100+ degree heat in the desert southwest.
Leaking gas pump at the rear of the car while sitting in the garage with a half tank or more of fuel.
Gas tank leaking.
Strong fuel odor coming from fuel tank area.
Strong fuel odor coming from car when enclosed in a garage. Found fuel leaking from top of drivers side fuel tank. Worse when tank is full.
The gas tank is leaking through the top and moisture can be seen on the side. There is the smell of gas inside the car. The mechanic alerted me to a recall of the gas tanks for this model vehicle. I have pictures to show how the top of the gas tank is constantly wet. The first time we noticed the smell of gas was in a stationary position while in the garage. The picture is taken from underneath the car looking upwards.
Gas is leaking when the tank is over 3/4 full and has a stronger odor of gas in my garage. It's on the drivers side. And there's a little puddle of gas on the pan under the tank.
takata recall the car have strong smell of gas fumes when over a half tank of gas. Cannot park in grage or sat in car for fumes. Was told recall has expired. Don't understand if gm knows this is a safety issue that they would not cancel the recall. Need help contacting gm head office.
I'm getting a strong odor of raw gasoline which seems to be coming from the gas tank area of my 2008 Corvette. I notice it as being especailly strong when the car has been sitting in the closed garage for a period of time.
Strong fuel smell when fuel tank is at least half full. Local Chevrolet dealer suspects a leak in the tank from vicinity of top left of tank. Invoice from dealer's service department is attached.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated that a strong fuel odor emitted around the driver side of the vehicle. The contact was a certified mechanic and noticed that there was a fuel leak on the top driver side fuel tank that needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.

Bad fuel smell coming from inside of car when I fill up the tank.

I bought this car in July 2016. It only has 21000 miles on it. It stays parked inside the garage and every time I feel the tank I get a strong gasoline smell. This smell is strong and feels the garage. I checked and found a recall for this. I need to know what to do.
