Failure by general motors to disclose that the oem tires delivered with a new 32013 Corvette grand sport are unsafe if used when the temperature is below 42 degrees fahrenheit. Failure to correct this defective condition after being put on notice and requests for safe tires ignored. I know of this problem so I can avoid the danger. You must recall all these cars because not all owners are aware of this problem (I stumbled upon it by accident--it is disclosed no where is any sales literature or the owners manual for the car or anywhere else that I am aware of and I have looked and asked Chevrolet and they ignored my question) and they take their lives and those of innocent bystanders in their hands if they use the car below 42 degrees f. Where I live that is 6 months of the year. I have extensive correspondence with Chevrolet in which they admit the problem exists and that there is no fix for it so I am out of luck and innocent people will be killed and gm could care less. I will be happy to share this correspondence with you, and encourage it. This is absolute unmitigated arrogance ion gm's part and shows a callous and willful disregard for the lives of their innocent purchasers and bystanders and must be stopped.

On Wednesday 7 Nov 2012, I was driving home from work at approx 4:30pm and while changing lanes (from the rh lane to the lh lane, to make a left turn in approx half a mile) when the front driver's side tires popped and I spun, crossed the median, cross two southbound lanes, struck an electricity pole, spun again and finally came to rest on the sidewalk & grass. Neither stability control nor traction control activated once the car began to spin (counter clockwise) which created an uncontrollable and unrecoverable spin. The failure of these systems activate and operate properly could have killed me and destroyed the car. Both systems were fully operational and on. Also, the side airbag did not deploy when the impacted the pole on the driver's side door.

My model is equipped with goodyear "eagle f1 supercar gen2 tires" featuring an asymmetric tread pattern. They are very hard and treacherous in cold rainy weather and have a tendency to "float" on any kind of ponding water on the road (particularly expressways) causing the vehicle to act as if it is going to move laterally from one lane to the next. It is disconcerting at best and potentially dangerous at worst.

The contact stated that the vehicle hydro planned during a rain storm, causing the vehicle to drive into another lane. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer but the manufacturer was contacted and made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 1,700.

My complaint is not about a component failure, but rather an inadequate component, specifically the goodyear f1 supercar tires that came as standard equipment on my 2010 Corvette grand sport coupe. These tires are the absolute worst to hydroplane of any tires on any vehicle I have driven in my 45+ years of driving experience. They are absolutely unsafe at any speed when there is water on the road. I have approached the dealer and Chevrolet on multiple occasions as to what I can do to remedy this situation and have been stonewalled at every step. I have talked to other owners and many of them have swapped out the standard issue goodyears for michelins at a cost of around $2000 and that seems to fix the problem. I was not able to get my dealer or Chevrolet to confirm this. Their answer is to replace them with the same tire that came with the vehicle. My car is nearly two years old and has less than 5000 miles on it, so tire wear is not the issue. The z06 and zr1 models come standard with michelins and I think the grand sport should as well. I know it is too late for me, but new owners should not have to replace new tires with very expensive replacements in order to be safe when driving in the rain.

The tires in question where purchase in July 2007. Approximate mileage since installation 2200. Traveling west on i80/94 in northern indiana 3 miles this side of illinois state line. I notice after passing exit 3/cline avenue, that the road way started to sound like a "buck board" road surface. Since I was in the far lane I started to move over to exit onto kennedy Ave off ramp and drove into a parking lot and stepped out to see what was going on . I immediately noticed that the "left rear tire" on my Corvette seemed like it was going flat. I saw a service station up the street so I decided to see if I could drive to it and see if anyone might be able to offer us assistance. As it was they couldn't. I looked at the tire again and felt there was enough air in the tire to get us to a dealership or tire store. While waiting for the light to change at the intersection upon exiting the service station we heard a loud "bang". I drove into a parking lot across from the service station and parked the car. It was now around 5:00pm. The young was just getting off work from his job with "berts towing, inc". The had him tow the vehicle to my local Chevrolet dealership 'bill jacobs" in the joiliet IL. The dealership got the car into their body shop and "notice" that the "inside" side wall had separated' which cased the tire to crack the wheel. For he next three weeks the dealership tried to get a replacement wheel, but couldn't find one so we purchased a wheel so I could moved the car the bill at this point was around $950. 00 dollars plus it would cost an additional $1212. 00 for a new wheel from gm for a total around $2150. 00. I contacted bridgestone/firestone on September 8th with their claim report no. 842571. Yesterday I received a letter ref. No. 919077 they rejected the claim do to "this tire was operated for an unknown period of time with insufficient air pressure. Was I suppose to stop the vehicle in the middle of the highway and which could cause an accident.

The tire pressure sensor (the left front sensor, also known as green #44 or part number 1016 1856) is not available new or used anywhere in the country. Referring to page 6-47 of the manual, the following warning appears: when the low/flat tire warning light is on your vehicle's handling capabilities will be reduced during severe maneuvers. If you drive too fast, you could lose control of your vehicle. You or others could be injured. Don't drive over 55 mph (90 km/h) when the low/flat tire warning light is on. Drive cautiously and check your tire pressure as soon as you can. " now, noting the recent headlines about firestone tire failures and the resulting tragic consequences, it would seem highly appropriate for Chevrolet to immediately address the fact that this part is discontinued and no longer available. Basically, all we (my wife joy rende, who actually owns the car, and I) are looking for is for chevy to start manurafturing the part again.
Car came factory equipped with emt (run-flat) tires. Manufacturer has discontinued part number 10161856 "tire sensor" needed to indicate if a tire loses pressure. As there is no outward indication of a loss of pressure in a tire, loss of pressure will eventually result in catastrophic tire failure which may result in a loss of vehicle control. Chevrolet customer care has confirmed the part has been discontinued and that there are currently no plans for a replacement part.
Took vehicle in for serivce. Was informed by mechanic tire pressure sensor part is no longer available. The part is #10161856. Company went out of business. Received warning while driving vehicle.
The tire pressure sensor has broken, and the part has been discontinued by the manufacturer.
