My active handling comes on for no apparent reason in my Corvette causing immediate uncontrollable braking. It results in swerving and dangerous conditions.
On sharp turns, front right brake pulses and temporarily loss of steering occurs. Service active handling message appears on dic. Very dangerous.
Car spun the back tires when making a right hand turn in front of on coming traffic. What happened next was I took my foot off the gas pedal and corrected the car at the same time the active handing applied the front brakes to lockup and would not disengage. I messed with the brake pedal for about 30 seconds & they disengages & I went about 200 feet going straight & the right front brake applied to lockup & the same thing I had to mess with the brake pedal & it released. I never shut the car off & as I resumed driving I could feel the steering was not right it felt like the variable assist steering though the car was going way fast (the steering was way to heavy). I went about 2 miles like this and it did not change. I pulled over & shut the car off & restarted it & the problem was gone. As this was happening the dic was displaying service active handling. That was the only time this has happened to me. It has not happened again. Nothing has been done to fix it yet.
2002 Chevrolet Corvette - abs braking and traction control system failure. Systemic and reoccurring problem with ecbm electronic failure. Loss of vehicle control in wet weather and no abs breaking. Research shows repeated problem with c5 Corvettes. Very dangerous situation with a high performance vehicle. This needs manufacturer's correction of this design and manufacturing flaw. Please investigate.

I purchased a 2006 Corvette in June of 2010. Since then I have had various electrical problems including, high and low tire pressure warnings, flat tire warning (tires were fine), service active handling system (has happened twice while driving, front tires locked up. . Almost got rear ended. I was sitting at a light, when to turn left and front tires locked up. Pushed the clutch in several times but tires still locked up. Turned off the active handling . . Chose comp drive mode, problem went away. Serveral times lately the push button start does not start the engine, everything else comes on but nothing from the engine. Change to a different gear, push clutch back in, nothing. . After several attempts, it finally 'catches" and starts. The tires have locked up twice since June of 2010. The push button start began malfunctioning on a daily bases about 3 weeks ago. I do not wish to fly off the highway into a ditch before this can be fixed. (active handling).
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated that the traction control system was disengaging while driving and causing the brakes to malfunction when driving at least 60 mph. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to determine the cause of the failure or repaired. The failure mileage was 75,000.
I decided to write this complaint since I am very concerned about my Corvette and the continued issues I am having with the active handling system and the traction control system. The service department has investigated the problem with the active handling system and the traction control system at least three times already. The first time the vehicle was in for maintenance was on June 14th. The technician stated that he ensured all the connectors were tightened, reset the codes and the car was ready. On Friday June 25th I dropped off the vehicle for the 2nd time with the same problem (service active handling system and the traction control system). I was contacted by a john sauder service department representative around 12:30 pm that day who apprised me that my car was ready for pick up after the service was completed. I picked up the car and drove less than 30 miles when the car again went into reduced power mode and the same error codes appeared (service active handling system and the traction control system) this was on June 26th. The car was serviced again on June 27th for the identical issue and returned to me on July 1st. After driving the vehicle for several miles I received the identical messages at 1330 miles. When the car was in for service on June 27th john dauder Chevrolet stated that the problem was identified and that the service department had corrected the issue. The service manager stated that the issue was caused by the personal audio link (pal) installed at the dealership and that removing the pal would eliminate the problem. That was premature. To date, I have driven the car less than 1350 miles. From the time I purchased the vehicle it has been out of service for more than 18 days and has been in the shop for service 13 days not counting the fact that I will drop off the car for service on July 13, 2010 because of the same issue the 4th time.

2005 Corvette--service active handling system light came on ,warning me of a problem. Before any service could be done the vehicles right front wheel locked up causing me to be out of control and veering to the right. I had it repaired by the dealer and several weeks later received a safety recall for the identical problem. The dealer checked the vehicle in accordance with the recall and indicated that I had the repairs done at my expense prior to the recall. I filed for reimbursement and was denied because the repair was not for a clip, but for the sensor. However, the symptoms are identical to the recall. Furthermore no clip was replaced by the dealer. They indicated only that the recall situation was taken care of previously at the owners expense.
My 2005 Corvette c-6 coupe has been periodically giving "active handling system" warnings. The dealer couldn't find any reason for the problem but did replace the "computer" module just prior to the warranty expiring. The problem seemed fixed for a while then started again about a year ago. The warning comes on almost every time I drive the car now. Reading some of the other complaints on this subject makes me fear driving the vehicle.
Service active handling system message comes on frequently. I had been ignoring it, but now the traction control system is beginning to engage during normal braking and causes my 2005 Corvette to shift sideways.
Traction system warning message appears and vehicle goes into reduced power mode.
While traveling at a speed of approximately 45 miles per hour on a two-lane paved highway, the car voluntarily locked the left front brake for a period of approximately 5 seconds. Car slid forward (suppose to be turning right) into left traffic lane. Fortunately there was no oncoming traffic and therefore no serious damage to vehicle. Just prior to this action, the car displayed a message, "service active handling system. ".
I own a 2006 chevy Corvette. I first got the service active handling light when I bought my car used at 31k mi. I took it in for service and the dealer fixed the issue by putting the plastic clip in the swps plug, as listed in the TSB. Approx 10 months later the service active handling came back on. It comes on sometimes and not others. Fortunately none of my wheels have locked up but I am worried for my safety and my families safety. Of course my car is out of warranty( 900 miles out) and I have to pay to solve this problem on my own dollar and worry that the wheels could lock up.
I have experienced several brake lockups at very low speeds usually while trying to leave a parking spot or other times when the steering wheel is fully turned to the right or left. Once I start to move, the brakes engaged and will not allow the car to move and the active handling indicator comes on the display. All of these slow speed issues were simply ?fixed? by restarting the car, yesterday I was driving at 60mph on a highway and my brakes engaged and the car jerked to the right side of the road and I fought to keep it on the road as the active handling came on again. The brakes pulsated until he car was completely stopped in the road. The weather was sunny and 70 degrees, the road was a fairly new and smooth asphalt. The car took complete control and I was in medium traffic. I am thankful that I was not pulled to the left into oncoming traffic. The cars to the rear of me had no idea that I was stopping and I was almost hit from behind. After the car came to an abrupt stop in traffic on the highway, I could not move it off of the road as the brakes would engage and "active handling" was displayed if I tried to move it. I shut the car off and restarted it and the problem seemed to go away. I pulled off at the next stop and disabled the active handling system.
While slowing to make a left hand turn when the vehicle stalled/stopped temporarily. . . Could have caused collision if the stall/stop happened a second later when I would have been in the opposing land. It has happened twice. I had the car repaired at edwards Chevrolet in birmingham. I was told by them that a wire in the steering column had corroded.
On 2005/06 Corvette the telescoping steering wheel sensor shorts out causing the traction control system to fail locking up the gear shift and other problems. Service bulletin 06-02-35-002 explains the corrective action and a part if available to correct the problem. However, it doesn't work. System still fails making the car inoperable, and always at the most importune time. According to the forums, this is a very common problem. Chevrolet needs to issue a recall and fix it permanently.
My car suddenly jerked to the left and the service active handling light came on. I will also receive service active handling errors every once in a while that go away after re-start.
