My 2001 Corvette right rear wheel cracked while I was driving down the highway at about 75 miles per hour. I lost most of the air by the time I stopped. I had the tire checked for leaks and no leaks were found on the tire. I had the wheel checked and a crack was found around the spoke to the outer edge of the wheel.

Right rear stock rim on a 2002 Corvette coupe is cracked. Car only has 33,000 miles on it. I will have to get a new rim in order to fix the issue.
I own a 2001 Corvette, while getting the tires replaced the dealership told me one of the rims spokes has a crack in it and should be replaced. This crack (which is common in these cars) could break the rim apart and cause a horrible accident.
The chromed wheels on my 2002 Chevrolet Corvette are cracked. All 4 whees are cracked and on one wheel 3 out of five spokes are cracked almost completely through.
I have a 2002 c5 Corvette, the rear rim has a crack in the spoke. I went on Corvette forum to see if others have had this problem. There where several other people that had the same issue. Several had taken there cars to the dealers, some under warranty some not and gm would not replace the rims. This link was actually on the Corvette forum asking people to write to you and possibly get a safety recall started. I only have 39000 miles 0n the car. I feel this is a big safety issue, I didn't notice it until I had new tires put on and the mechanic told me. This could be a very dangerous issue should the rims come apart on the highway. Can you please see if others have reported similar issues, I don't know what it takes for a recall to be issued, but I feel obligated to report it.
The driver side rear wheel on my 2002 Corvette coupe has a crack in 2 of the spokes. I took it in to my chevy dealer (crest Chevrolet), they took pictures and submitted a claim to gm. The gm rep. Had the dealer take the tire off the wheel and see if the cracks go through to the inside and get the factory number off the inside & verify it was a gm wheel. The dealer service rep called me and said gm agreed to pay for half the cost of the wheel. I told the service manager that gm's offer was not satisfactory and I would proceed in filing formal complaints. They fact that these wheels are a problem that gm is aware of has been discussed and documented on the Corvetteforum. Com website. . Read more...

2002 Chevrolet Corvette with cracked wheels.
I had a flat tire. While looking for the cause I found that it was a cracked rim. After looking at my other rims I found another one cracked, but not leaking. I have a 2001 chevy Corvette with the y2k style, highly polished, thin spoke design rims. The car has 59,000 miles but the cracked rims only have 55,000 miles. The right rear was the one with the large leaking crack, and the left rear was cracked but not leaking. The front rims do not appear to be cracked at this time. I have ordered four new aftermarket rims to replace my cracked oem gm rims.
