Six problems related to transmission not go into gear have been reported for the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze based on all problems reported for the 2011 Cruze.
Issue 1: car jerks while at low speeds and sometimes acts like it's in neutral, even though my gear is in drive. Issue 2: when I put my car into reverse, then to drive, the car acts like it's in neutral, instead of drive. The engine revs, but doesn't move, unless I happen to be on a hill, at which point it will roll, without me waniting it to. In order to go into drive I have to put on the brake and put it into park, let go of the brake, put the brake back on then put the gear back in drive for it to move forward. Issue 3: car runs in gear 1 and 2, but will not shift to another gear. When you're driving, the engine just revs, but you can't go past a very low speed. I bought this car brand new in 2011, it has 80,000 miles. I don't expect it to be a perfect car, but for the transmission to already be out, isn't right. It's dangerous. Please do the right thing and investigate this car's transmission. Everyone is having this same issue with this particular car. Please. I'm begging.
In may of this year, as I tried to back out of my driveway, my car would not move in reverse. The car was rattling, the rpms were going up, but the car would not go in gear. My family pushed my car out of the driveway in neutral and I drove it 2 miles to my mechanic. During that 2 minute drive, the car continually slipped gears. Fast forward to having the Cruze towed to a transmission shop (after not having heard from Chevrolet after multiple attempts contacting them) and I find out the transmission is completely broke. The car is out of warranty, and of course Chevrolet lent no assistance, so I paid $3,674 to have a remanufactured transmission put in with a 500,000 mile warranty. The transmission in the Cruze never acted completely right (a common complaint among many Cruze owners)- not shifting properly when going up hills, jerking when shifting on flat pavement. It's mind-blowing that there have been so many reported issues of transmission failures in this model, but Chevrolet has yet to make any recalls. It's not only a financial issue, it's a safety concern. I will not be buying a chevy again, as they were unwilling to provide any assistance when this major component failed. Not even 90k miles, seven years old, this shouldn't even be an issue yet.
I was driving on local highway. Stopped at light. When I started to move forward again the transmission wouldn't shift past 2nd gear. The vehicle wouldn't accellerate over 30 mph. Pulled over to the nearest place. Turned off the car and turned it back on. Tried to back up, but reverse would not work. Pushed it out of the parking spot car would only move forward up to 30 mph. Nothing past 2nd gear and still no reverse. Manual aspect of car was saying could not shift. Service engine lights came on. Code read tranmission module. Per tech, wave plate came apart and contaminated the whole transmission, solinoids and control board resulting in need for complete trans overhaul, solinoids and control board replacement and reprogramming - $3400! gm would not help, even though known issue.
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet cruize. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle shifted from sixth gear to first. The check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact had to pull over in a parking lot and the vehicle restarted normally after 20 minutes. The failure recurred and would not change gears. The vehicle was never taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000.
6/22/2013 I noticed transmission leaking oil. Before that transmission started to slip on highway and in traffic. I told dealer before that I think the transmission is bad. Did not change gears properly. Dealer updated computer but transmission still had a hard shift. Car will be taken to dealer to have checked. Right now it looks like transmission has to be replaced. Gm should recalled and replaced transmissions. Transmissions can slip on highway or in traffic and could cause an crash or brake down. Also I here that other people are having problems with their Cruze.
On April 2, 2013 my car did not change gears properly and it had a loud noise. I could not make it to the robbins Chevrolet dealership, so I pulled over at the nearest gas station and called robbins Chevrolet and explain this problem of the transmission issue. They stated to call their wrecker service and bring the car into the dealership. I called the wrecker and my wait time was 30 minutes and I was taken to the car dealership service area and arrived around 10:45am. I explained how the car was straining to pull gears and it was unsafe to continue to drive it in that condition. I was given a loaner car and the advisor, alex called me around 4pm and stated my car had a mechanical issue with the transmission and the powertrain coverage warranty covered the expenses and it would be available for pick up on 4/26/2013.
