While maneuvering out of a tight parking place (reverse then forward), the car had a sudden complete loss of braking assist. This required a very high amount of force to stop the vehicle. At first, I thought the engine had died. However, it had not. After reversing to complete the maneuver, the brake assist returned to normal.

39 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2017

When putting my 2012 chevy Cruze into reverse to back up, the brakes do not seem to work properly - the car does not stop until I press on the brake very hard. This has been happening more often now then before - almost every time in car, making driving/parking backing out of parking lot, very unnerving. This is on level grade - not on a hill. I've also need on-line this was part of a major recall, but when contacted Chevrolet hq, they said that this was not an issue for my VIN. I'm sure they would change their mind just sitting in my car once. This should be corrected by Chevrolet at no cost - and/or be part of the recall.

45 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2016

Recall bulletin 12213 performed April 2014 for brake vacuum micro switch. Recalled part failed again August 2016. Vehicle has hard brake pedal upon cold start and sometimes when restarted after driving and warm. Vehicle becomes very hard to stop without warning and unsafe to drive. Dealer refused to replace part at no cost stating no additional recall exists and no warranty exists. It is unclear if this is the very start of a larger systemic problem with the actual design of these micro switches in this application. Gm part number 13460776 has become obsolete and part now comes as sub assembly with additional parts. This leads me to believe original design of micro switch was defective.

Failure Date: 03/22/2016

Vacuum assist for power brakes sometimes does not work. You must push as hard as you can on brake pedal to get the car to stop. Some chevy cruse were recalled for this problem but mine was not. This is a very dangerous problem that can cause a serious accident in an emergency braking situation.

51 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2016

Around sunrise on a highway with an adult passenger the car lost all power instantly. The steering was heavy and the brakes had very little power. We was able to drift over to a safe area. The way this car performs with little braking effort it can cause some bad accidents in other enviroments such as mountains. The safety of the Chevrolet Cruze models needs to be improve.

52 Service Brakes problem

While driving the power steering shuts off, radio blinks on and off, and the brakes get spongy making it hard to drive and stop. I have had it in the shop and the mechanics were unable to find an problem.

53 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2016

We purchased the car for my daughter in 2012 and made the decision based on all of the safety features and supposedly waranties that were associated with this car, which she loved. We have had numerous recalls over the 4 years, but now the car is failing to brake when she is pressing the pedal and after she pumps it, it finally comes to a stop, but of course this is a safety issue for anyone. Took it to our mechanic thinking maybe it was brake fluid, but then he found on this website the recall #12213 that gm had from 2013 describing this very issue. He suggested calling the dealership because it was under the recall and when I did, they are telling me it was already repaired on her car (which I am not sure I believe because we have had so many bad experiences with this dealer & recalls that I don't think it was ever repaired!) they tell me we will have to pay to repair the problem because it is no longer under the recall. I called gm to question why they wouldn't repair a "known" issue with the brakes and she tells me that the recall itself has already been closed down, so it must be something else wrong with the car! I guess they would rather have a crash on their hands then take responsibility because after reading this website, my daughter is not the only one having this issue. What terrible civic responsibility, customer service and blatant disregard for someone's life than to just ignore an obvious problem. I have already asked our mechanic to fix her brakes so that she is not involved in a crash, but this is an obvious issue and they have nothing to say. I feel like some of the others on this site, that I'm not even sure we got a notice on this issue or we fell through the cracks. Last USA car for us-they really don't care about customers! I can't put my child's life into their hands any longer.

58 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2015

I was trying to park my 2012 Chevrolet Cruze car in a parking place. I turned into the parking spot and when I placed my foot on the brakes, nothing happened. I looked down at my foot and watching myself repeatedly pump the brakes. Instead of stopping, my car went over the parking spot yellow curb, over a sidewalk and some grass, and I hit a parked vehicle. Before I hit the vehicle, I luckily turned my wheel, causing less damage to the parked vehicle. After I hit the vehicle, my car turned back into the parking lot where it finally stopped. I am not sure if it stopped because of me repeatedly pumping the brakes, or that I finally ran out of momentum, since I had not hit the accelerator since before trying to park. My bumper is damaged, had to have car towed because I am too afraid to drive it. My 5 year old daughter was in the backseat, in her booster seat, during all of this, and I am afraid thinking of how worse it could have been, with the brakes not working. I found out after the fact that there was a recall for this year and model car for the brakes, and that recall was before I owned the car.

63 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2015

This is the second incident (March 2014 & February 3, 2015 resulting in the loss of the power/control while operating the vehicle, both incidents were terrifying. I purchased my certified used chevy Cruze in February 2014. In March/April 2014 immediately after startup (traveling under 10 mph / approx. 60,000 miles) the car began experiencing electrical issue; the displays on the dash would flash intermittently followed by warning lights (power steering, brakes, traction control etc. ) and a complete loss of power to my car while driving, no steering, no brakes etc. I filed a complaint in 2014 (NHTSA - no. 10574169 #14311:special coverage adjustment negative battery cable loose. I immediately brought my car into the dealership for servicing. Ultimately, the positive and negative battery terminals were replaced and the service was covered under warranty. Yesterday, February 3, 2015, I experienced a similar incident. Shortly after starting my car (traveling 5mph / approx. 84,000 miles) the car began to shake violently, the check engine light turned on and again the car began experiencing similar power loss to my car while driving. My car was towed to the dealership and the cause was again identified as a negative battery terminal, a bad intake/gasket leaking and a small engine oil seep. These are some of the same issues identified with the initial incident in 2014 when these parts were replaced. This is a terrifying scenario and to have the same issues occur in such a short time period after the parts were replaced is not comforting and leaves me with fear that this could occur again, I do not want to continue to take chances with the safety of this vehicle. I hope this is taken seriously and resolved to avoid this from continuing to happen to myself and others in the same situation and to hopefully avoid this from turning into a serious and/or deadly situation.

65 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2014

There was a recall on my 2012 chevy Cruze. I got a recall notice but never did receive notice that the parts were in. However I had at the dealer having an oil change. I told him about it. It was for the brake micro switch. He said they would replace they had the part. This was on 11/14/13. I had an accident today 10/15/14. I turned into a parking place. I applied the brake but it didn't work. Car jumped the curb and ended up on top of a light maker at the library where I was parking. It was accelerating instead of braking. 66 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2014

While driving on the highway, at a safe and reasonable distance from the vehicle in front of me, the vehicle in front of me braked. I stepped on my brakes, and my vehicle did not stop properly. I pressed on my brakes firmly and my vehicle continued not to brake/slow properly and my vehicle continued going forward. The vehicle in front of my stopped and my car continued to go forward, crashing into the back end of the vehicle in front of me. I pressed on my brakes and they didn't work. I was able to turn my vehicle towards the left trying to avoid crashing into the vehicle in front of me. I was able to turn my vehicle left and avoid crashing head on, but encointered severe front end damage to the right passenger side of my vehicle. All I can say is, my brakes did not work properly. I pressed on them and my vehicle did not stop like it normally does. (this vehicle is my mother's car. I have driven it in the past and brakes worked fine).
