general problems of the 2013 Chevrolet Cruze - part 1

My car over heats at least over 300 degrees. Afraid that my vehicle is in danger of catching fire due to the high temperature causing tension belt and hose components to melt.

I’ve had the thermostat housing fail twice now. And now it leaking again for the third time!! now the service stabilitrak light is on, but it only happens when the car is idling. This happened to me before while driving and I replaced the spark plugs and the coil pack. I know on other models the valve cover failed as well but I don’t see a recall on that, or the thermostat housing issues…. I just don’t get whyyyyy if people are having all the same issues why not recall it!!???.

Recently, I noticed that my car's engine was overheating, which I initially thought was due to a problem with the coolant or radiator. However, on November 18th, 2024, my vehicle suddenly broke down while I was driving on the highway. I had my car towed to a mechanic, who informed me that this particular model of the Chevrolet Cruze, specifically from the years 2011-2015, is known to have severe engine overheating problems. The mechanic also mentioned that in cases like mine, the engine is often seized and sent to the junkyard. After researching further and reading through numerous online reviews from other Cruze owners, I discovered that engine overheating is a common and recurring issue for many of them. This leads me to believe that this problem may be more widespread and could potentially be a defect in the design or manufacturing of the engine. Given the severity of this issue and the impact it has on vehicle safety, I kindly request that you consider issuing a recall for the engines in the 2011-2015 Chevrolet Cruze models, similar to the actions taken for other vehicle recalls, such as the Hyundai sonata. I hope that Chevrolet will take steps to address this issue and ensure that owners like myself do not have to face costly repairs or the loss of their vehicle due to an engine failure that appears to be inherent in these models. I would greatly appreciate your attention to this matter and hope for a positive resolution, such as a recall or another form of support for owners dealing with this serious engine problem. Have been told it’s the catalytic converter but when driving it loses power and stalls. It has almost caused wrecks. Ever since I got this vehicle it’s been one thing after another and the more I look online about the issues with my vehicle, the more I realize that thousands and thousands of chevy Cruze owners are having the same issues. I’ve had to put two oxygen sensors on it since having it, replaced the turbo, spark plugs, all kinds of parts on this vehicle. They clearly did not make this vehicle safe or reliable.

I own 3 chevy Cruze, a 2012, 2013 and 2016. They all partial power down or decelerate while driving. The local chevy dealers has no recalls for this issue or any other for that matter. Please advise.

Coming home from grocery shopping the night of sept 3, 2023 the radio kept turning off then coming back on. I was on the highway about 20miles from home radio still turning on and off about every 5mins (go black/blank then light back up) and I had felt when I would accelerate it would as I would slightly go up hill. Once I jad got about 4miles from my house the radio went off once again and dash warning light said "stabili trak" and head lights had went off then came back on again. I just was grateful I was not to far from home since it was dark out and the lights were now turning off too. The next morning (sept 4, 2023)since I did not have another vehicle and my son needed to get to football practice, I drove down the lane of my driveway and the dash warning light kept flashing, the window warning light said turn window on (so I rolled it back up and it turned off), radio kept turning on and off relentlessly, vehicle kept shutting off on me while driving before I even got down my driveway which is about 200 feet. I starred it back up and returned home. I made phones calls to drip it off in sussex NJ at service center where I had bought car as someone followed me(I did not have any problems the hour drive there/40miles) left a message on the voicemail regarding issue, checked to see of recalls though wasn't any. It was not safe to drive the way the car was, just with the only 1 warning dash signal in the middle of driving and headlights stop working them start to couldve caused accident then car turned off while I slowly drove down my driveway doing 7mph as well and I had my son in the car too. Very scary especially driving at night and that happens without much of a warning at 1st.

For the last couple of months my chevy Cruze lt 1. 4l turbo engine has been having severe cooling issues making my car overheat in a little amount of time. I drive 20 minutes back and forth to work and everytime I get to work or get home from work I find myself having to fill up with antifreeze again and again and again. I’ve replaced the water pump and multiple hoses. And now I have to replace more hoses.

Thermostat keeps alerting me that it's overheating, while constantly guzzling anti-freeze and water. There's no obvious leak, completely dry under the car. The car will shut its self off.

The 2013 chevy Cruze is prone to overheating and there is always a coolant leak or something related to the coolant/antifreeze that is leaking or not correct. My chevy Cruze has been leaking coolant profusely and so has my friends who had a chevy Cruze as well. It is truly a pain to continuously refill the coolant so that the vehicle will not overheat. A recall needs to be in place immediately. I’ve heard this same story on chevy Cruze a way too many times.

My coolant is leaking again. I have been having headache. I didn’t know that it was leaking again. I repaired last before this incident. Nov 2021. Something is wrong.

I wanted to file this because I feel this a safety concern. My vehicle has always been kept up on maintenance. One day out no where it started acting up my 2013 chevy Cruze LS. I had a shop come back after they did a diagnostic that is was a faulty throttle body sensor and pcv. I have issues with it shutting off and I’ll have to coast it to stop. What I’m not understanding how can there be recalls for my vechicle same problems same make/model but it’s not showing my vehicle matching up with my VIN #. I do have all the supporting documents and paperwork stating these issues.

My car just shut off by itself while I was driving without any warning. My check engine light isn’t on and I just got my car out of the shop a few weeks ago, so I’m not sure why this happened. It is not safe and was definitely scary, being that I am pregnant and also had daughter with me.

While driving the light came one engine overheating a/c shut off. There was a leak of coolant. I was stranded on the side of the road. We had it brought to a mechanic. They repaired the problem. Within 3 days it started again, the mechanic thought it was a faulty part so replaced it. After a week it happened again. We had it repaired again. Now 2 months later it is happening again. Once again stranded on the side of the road this has happened 4 times in 2 months and looks to be a very common issue with a simple search online. Multiple parts replaced and still stranded9.

Vehicle overheats and cuts off. Vehicle does not retain coolant vehicle does not accelerate. Throttle body has been changed 2x in 6 months. My daughter has been left in the dark while vehicle sparked while overheating.

I just bought the car and it is over heating and the turbo is acting up high rpms and not shifting correctly and shakes at 60 mph.

I'm looking into purchasing a chevy Cruze 2013 lt from a friend. I am researching and noticing some issues and recalls. I was wondering if this statement is true. Could you let me know more information about this? thank you for your time. The issues I'm seeing are the turbocharge and coolant at the moment.

Check engine light is on stating issue with turbo. This is a known issue yet gm is covering some but not mine. Per gm my VIN is not part of the recall yet I am having the issue.

Chevrolet has issued a recall on the chevy Cruze for antifreeze that has been known to leak at the thermostat housing. My is doing that which is causing it to over heat. I contact them and they said my car don have that issue mean while I drive 2 blocks it starts to over heat.

The dealership sold my family this vehicle that has been a total loss since 2018. My understanding on why it has a green title is because someone paid out of pocket to cover the repairs. It has also been in 2 other accidents in 2020. The dealership did not make us aware of it and have been avoiding my contact.

Car is leaking oil and coolant. They are mixing and running into the engine. Thermostat housing needs replaced.

The vehicle keeps going to a/c off due to vehicle running hot. I've gone to the dealer and various shops had the water pump, hoses, outlet housing, thermostat replaced. I still smell coolant leaking and burning off when I open the hood I see the engine and catalytic converter wet and drying off as the wetness evaporates; the smell stays inside the car. The effects of smelling coolant has to be toxic, has any studies been done on long term effects of smelling coolant? I spend a minimum of 3 hours a day in traffic. The problem started around 100k. I also have oil leaking on right axel and somewhere on the engine. I've noticed the1. 4l turbo has the same problems why are there recalls on the 1. 4l but not the 1. 8l? I'm paying out of pocket to get the same repairs done, if the vehicle is unsafe for the 1. 4l it should be unsafe for the 1. 8l.

I have a 2013 chevy Cruze 1. 4l turbo. The past month or so when I am driving on an incline or hill it loses power and the traction control light and stability control light comes on and the check engine light flashes. About a week ago I was coming home from class and my car lost power and almost got smashed by a semi and today it lost power and almost got rear ended. Have had several mechanics look at it and they can find the problem.

Has an internal engine and cooling problems exhaust gas entering the cooling system I believe he knew about this issue and still sold me the car anyway. I told him that the water in the tank was bubbling and he said nothing was wrong with the car. And now the engine gasket is blown and the car is overheating.

Car continually over heats and now the turbo bad.

There is a consistent plastic burning smell, usually when the ac or heater is on. I have replaced the ac unit, and this still happens. Smoke sometimes appears on the driver's side through the vents. I have taken the vehicle in a few times for this, and they can never find anything. The last repairs I had done replaced wires, pipes, and connectors.

Countless oil leaks - replaced the valve cover /gasket and solenoids and countless other parts to stop the oil leak when it was coming from the intake manifold pvc system - I even replaced the turbocharger.

The coolant is leaking, my engine light turned on while I was driving on a city street and it said my engine was high in temperature.

The exhaust manifold cooks the cylinder head gasket causing oil leaks and turbo failure before 75,000 miles. Overwhelming smell of burnt antifreeze coming from vents due to coolant leak right of the showroom floor. Ranked lowest possible reliability rating 40 of 40.

Whenever I refuel my car I have to rev the engine for a couple minutes otherwise the car will die.

I was just driving along under normal driving when all of a sudden my rpms went all the way up and the car wasn't going anywhere but costing to a stop along with a loud banging sound. I was driving approximately 28mph on a street.

Multiple incidents of overheating spanning over the period of a few years now: water pump, coolant housing, valve cover gasket, and most recently turbo charger coolant lines have all been replaced. Have not contacted manufacturer because the information everywhere says there are no recalls for this obviously very common problem! doesn't seem fair at all. This issue has left me stranded in traffic, on side of highways, having to call someone countless times, not to mention the repair and alternate transportation fees. I mean, what does it take to make something important enough to issue a recall for?!?!!.

I left my keys in the ignition one night, went to bed, and woke up to my headlights turning on and off. I thought someone was trying to steal my car, but when I ran outside, the car was literally starting itself, turning itself off, turning back on, and back off. I'm not sure how long it had been doing that, but then I started it up myself, and turned it off, then removed the keys from the ignition. It was in the park position.

First the water pump had to be replaced, then the turbo coils had to be replaced $740, then the surge tank and now they are saying more leaks and wanted to do some test that cost $65. Something is not right, am I the only one this is happening to?.

The plastic gear that runs the defroster broke and we can't see to drive the vehicle.
