1 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2018

Takata recall: I bought my chevy Equinox in August of 2017, since taking it home it has had a lurching problem when driving or when stopped at a red light. It lurches forward and backwards like a bull trying to throw you off. I put new brakes on every 3 months because my brakes do not work even when brand new, and when I press the brake the car won't stop, or the brake pulses and vibrates. The cars gear shift sometimes gets stuck in drive when trying to put it in park. When trying to drive and the gas is pressed you hear a grinding, and the gas vibrates. I've had to abs sensor replaced 4x, O2 sensor 3x new brakes every 3 months, new tires every 6 months, regular oil changes, it's had it's valves replaced, it's had new brake lines, new shocks, regular alignments, it's had a new catalytic converter put in. The cars rpm spikes to 8000 when doing 30 miles an hour through a small town. The wheel vibrates when on a highway abs light never comes off. T/c turns off anytime I make a turn. Check engine light is I swear permantly on. . I've been told this can be a transmission and gear shift problem, but that all 3 of my regular mechanics call this problem the ghost problem, because they can't figure it out and always tell me to not drive it that it's not safe to drive but it's my only vehicle and I am 5 months pregnant and cannot afford a new car right now. This car is unsafe and needs to be evaluated.

2 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2017

I was driving my 2005 chevy Equinox on a mountain road like a do three days a week and all of a sudden the check engine light starting flashing and another light came on on the dashboard and the car would not accelerate. I immediately stopped and called aaa to tow my vehicle. I bought this vehicle brand new and I have never had any major problems with it. I have kept it serviced and it is in excellent condition. I had a mechanic hook my vehicle up to a computer to diagnose what was wrong with it and the code that came back was that the head gasket needed replacing. My mechanic said that the chevy engine that I have in my Equinox is known to have an issue with the head gasket where it goes out with no warning and for no reason. Chevy knew about this issue but failed to recall the vehicles with these engines and did not make consumers like me aware of this issue. I should have been informed of this problem so I had the option to either purchase a different vehicle or trade my vehicle for something different but I was not given that choice because chevy failed to make me aware of the problem with my engine and all the other consumers that have this same problem.

4 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2014

I've had my used 2005 chevy Equinox for less than a year and have not had any problems with it until yesterday. I had driven 32 miles to visit a relative and parked the car for the rest of the evening. The following day, I went to take a ride with my family, and the reduced engine power and check engine lights went on and the car didn't want to drive normal. I did a diagnostic scan and p0700, p1125, p2125, and p2138 codes came up!.

6 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2011

All problems arose when the brake from the driver's side would shake when braking. We had the shoes and tha pads changed and the problem seemed to be solved for about a year. Then the problem began again but this time the brakes would squeak when braking and then they began to tighten and the brake would lock itself and began to smoke because of the friction the pad and the brake disc were creating since the brake would remain locked. This was only on the drivers side. When this occurred the friction made the whole wheel rim get hot and began producing a burning smell from the brake pad. The caliber, shoes, pad and disc had to be replaced for both front brakes. The brakes continue to squeak when breaking. Now, the motor heats up to the red zone, the check engine light comes on even if their is anti-freeze in the engine. When accelerating the motor cools down, but if the speed is less than 35mph the motor heats up more. Based on other comments from drivers with the same make, model and year they noticed that the problem has come up to be the head gaskets. This problem has created many problems with the engine and is becoming a safety hazard when their is still a posibility that the breaks will lock up again and possibly spark fire if the problem is not fixed. We have not used our vehicle because of these issues we fear that not fixing the costly problem may damage other parts of the vehicle. We know we are not alone and that other drivers have the same problem with the chevy Equinox 2005.

7 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2010

Vehicle began idling rough after sitting all night and then backing out of garage. Once in drive, the check engine light would flash for about 15 seconds. Eventually, after several trips to the dealer who told me it was the spark plugs and wires, the check engine light remained on again. Now it needs a new rear head gasket and the #1 cylinder is leaking.

9 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2004

Check engine light keeps going on and they've only been able to ascertain anything a couple of times. The code is lost in the computer with multiple starts and shut offs of the engine. The computer is reset at different intervals--no one can tell me how long I have to get to the dealership after the error light is lit.
