1 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2020

When pressing on the brake pedal you get constant vibration causing you to skid. It happens when your going straight or turning when you press on the brake pedal. It almost caused me to skid into the car in front of me. And also defrost is not working causing visibility issues especially in the cold and snow.

2 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2018

As I was at stop light 3 days ago and at a low speed and about to stop my abs braking system activated without any indicator lights and in doing so it released the brakes even though I was still pressing them. I avoided hitting the car ahead of by shoving it into park. It does it every time I attempt to stop and now have to use my emergency brakes to actually come to a complete stop when abs activates and releases brakes. Dealership recommended I replace my front brakes and they tried to say it was also the tires. They were able to reproduce it but never fixed the problem. They did not let me know it wasn't fixed and nearly rolled out onto a heavy traffic road. I called them and informed them what had happened and asked why they let me drive a unsafe vehicle but when I asked that they remove the fuse for the abs system until I can figure out what is wrong. They said that was unsafe and not legal for them to remove the fuse. I asked pohanka chevy how is that any more or less unsafe then no brakes to stop. It is the abs braking system that is failing for some reason and why hasn't this been recalled to fix. Pohanka only offered a apology but will not fix or help and I now have a unsafe vehicle that could fail me and cause me to have a accident. I spent $785. 41 and they did not fix the issue. I have also reported them to my state attorney general's consumer division office. I have owned this vehicle for 12 years and I am the original owner of it. Never had this kind of problem until 3 days ago. Do a recall on this abs braking system!.

3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2018

Brakes locking in the 20-35 mph range. Locks while slowing down and van smells vehicle getting hot. Have taken to a firestone and chevy dealer and completed all suggested repairs, although no one was able to give me a definitive reason to the brakes locking. Repairs did not fix brake locking issue.

4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2017

Abs engages at low speeds, makes brake pedal very difficult to depress and difficult to stop vehicle. (this occurs regardless of turning/going straight, and happens randomly when the brake pedal is pressed and/or when it's released, and sometimes when I'm not touching the brake pedal at all. ) this occurs daily, and after some time, the abs and traction control warning lights will come on in the dashboard. Once the warning lights activate, the problem goes away. Serviced in 4/2017 at certified garage, and wheel hub assembly was replaced. The problem persists. Online auto forum research shows many early model Equinox owners experiencing the same exact issue, going all the way back to 2011. Https://chevroletforum. Com/forum/equinox-23/2006-chevy-equinox-lt-abs-traction-control-light-problems-41758/ the majority of the complaints list a pigtail wire harness as the solution. Chevrolet has no recalls that I've found - but clearly there are a number of Equinox owners experiencing the same issues, with no response from Chevrolet. I've been fortunate enough that this hasn't caused an accident yet. . . But I believe this issue should be examined before something destructive or tragic occurs. I will continue to attempt to have the issue diagnosed at certified ase garages.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2016

My wife and I have a 2006 chevy Equinox a few months ago the abs and traction control light repeatedly started coming on causing the brake pedal to pulsate. I took it to a mechanic they replaced all of the hub bearings seeing the codes we pulled those the lock ring was bad. Did no good scan the vehicle again different codes came out. This is a very dangerous problem that I see many people are having with the Equinox there needs to be a recall. I plan on contacting my attorney tomorrow to see if there's anything he can do about it I'm already $1,000 and repair over a problem that should have been recalled.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2016

My chevy Equinox has been in two different shops including Chevrolet numerous times. I have spent plenty of money. But, still have a problem with abs & traction control lights periodically coming on and with the uncertainty that my brakes are going to work properly every time I attempt to drive. I don't understand with the number of complaints on this exact problem why is there no recall? it is very unsafe. Chevy has been guessing and just changing different parts that didn't need changed. They even talked to corporate office and said they didn't know what it was for sure. Please tell me how that is possible? when it apparently isn't a isolated incident. They acted like they never heard of this problem. This site is evidence its a problem! I was told by person/persons at both shops it was safe to drive. Are they driving the same car I'm driving? because it is definitely not safe to drive. Brakes lock up randomly or grind as car continues to move forward several feet even once brakes are applied. It matches description of other complaints along with the pulsation. I have probably ten different invoices but it won't let me load all of them and the problem still remains.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2015

I feel this vehicle is a danger, when I brought this vehicle just gave me a problem, when I go running the car it goes away and I feel scared, the lights never turn off and I fixed everything, always has noise when the vehicle is running in the street. Me regret having bought it.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2015

Abs activation at low speeds on dry pavement. This happens randomly and changes the vehicle breaking distance. It is also unknown how much it will change the distance. So it can potentially cause a low speed impact accident. This is due to not knowing where to break for proper stopping distance. Engine problem when starting vehicle. The vehicle turns over then stalls. Only way I have found to prevent it from happening is to press the gas pedal while turning it over. Wiper issue. My passenger side windshield wiper doesn't work. I live in an area where heavy snow fall happens. This is a danger to myself and others on the road. If my vehicle is on the road during a blizzard or heavy snow visibility is lost on half my windshield.

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2014

Was on my way to work driving about 25mph at approximately 100 ft from a stop light I lightly tapped my brake. Immediately my anti lock brake came on and the vehicle was still moving at the same speed. I press the brake all the way down to the floor and the car would not stop the brake completely disabled . As I got within about 30 ft of the red light the car stopped and the brake was engaged. It was a dry day the road was smooth there is no reason the anti lock brake should come on. Today 9/9/14 I picked up my daughter from school . As I proceeded to exit the school going about 10mph the antilock brake came on disabling the brake. I press the break all the way down to the floor the vehicle would not stop. I put the car in neutral and it rolled and came to a stop. It's very dry and there is no reason why the anti lock brake should come on. I called general motors and was told that this car never had any recalls and that my car was out of warranty therefore it's my responsibility to have it repaired. I told the rep that I will report it because this is a serious safety issue.

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

The abs and t/c lights come on after driving. If the car has been turned off, and you turn the car back on, the lights will not come on while driving around or under 10mph, but the symptoms are that the brakes will grind and be very hard to push, very dangerous when braking behind somebody waiting to pull out of a driveway into a busy intersection. After accelerating to 20mph or faster, the brake issue might go away, but the abs/traction control lights will coem on. The problem is known for the 2006 chev Equinox to be an issue with the pigtail wiring harness. . Read more...

11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2014

Passenger side tire/wheel brake locked up. Not able to drive in any gear. Appeared to be brakes locked up. Possible fire danger. Wheel got so hot it melted off the plastic hub cap cover. Smelled of burning plastic/brake. Trying to get safety eval by gm delaership this week. This is a very dangerous vehicle. Nhtsa: request your review to recommend immediate recall; found same problem across the internet this morning. Help. . . .

12 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2014

The abs and traction control warning lights came on and stayed on. The brake pedal vibrated at each stop.

13 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2014

The abs and traction control dash lights come on. Turning off the engine and restarting it occasionally fixes the problem. After a few weeks the lights become persistent and shutting off and restarting the engine no longer fixes the problem. Sometimes when driving around 10-15 mph, the brakes are extremely difficult to push and stopping the car becomes a frightening experience. I had my mechanic replace the entire abs hub assembly and that fixed the problem for about a month. The problem has now returned and is worse than before.

14 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2014

I bought my car from a gm dealership in hanford, CA after just I took my used 2006 Equinox home and went out the start it that night it would not start key kept getting stuck, also a very rough idle, ignition switch issue I would have to fight with it from time to time did leave me stranded I called the dealership they had be bring it in the looked at and did nothing took it back again and they cleaned the throttle body? but did not look at the ignition issue because they advisor said there was no due bill for it also 3 months later my abs and trac control light was on I took it to a different service shop in visalia CA and they found that I needed a rear hub and senor also a alignment paid almost 400. 00,and still did not fix the issue they were helpful and told me that there tons of issue with my make and model regarding this make and model to take it to the place I got it to see if they can help me, it was horrible to drive spoke with a sales manager I told them about the ignition issue and abs & trac control light, they got it in there shop to check it out and gave me a rental to use to get back and forth to work, called to pick up they had a 600. 00 dollars bill for me!!! and still did not fix the ignition !!! it did it the problem in front of the sales manager and he said OH wow I refuse to pay that amount I just paid 300. 00 he told me when another manager comes back we can make a deal, I feel that I was sold a car that is unsafe for me and my family!! I can drive and go down a rough road or my leg hit the keys and my keys will fall out of the ignition and the car is still operating !!! and they will not fix it its just unbelievable!!!.

15 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2014

Abs and traction control lights dash board indicators came on and the abs brakes began to pulse suddenly. The pulsing would happen at any time (dry or wet surface and at any speed). When vehicle was turned off and restarted, the abs and traction control dash lights would be off but would light up again in a short while. Took vehicle to firestone. First, one set of hub bearings was replaced. When that didn't solve the problem, the other set of hub bearings were replaced. That didn't solve the problem either, so both sets were replaced again in case of a faulty part. That still didn't solve the problem, so the electrical was rewired. This worked for about 2 weeks but now the lights are lit and the brakes are pulsing again. I have been on an unofficial Chevrolet forum and it seems this is a recurring problem with the Equinox. What is chevy doing to solve this problem and why hasn't a recall been issued?.

16 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2013

Brakes lockup intermittently has caused vehicle to go out of control several times. I have spent over $700. 00 and the problem continues to occur.

17 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2013

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the brake pedal began to pulsate when pressure was applied. The vehicle failed to decelerate even after the brakes were applied repeatedly. The emergency brake was engaged in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic ten times where the front brakes and bearings were replaced but the failure persisted after the repairs were performed. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000. Updated 04/22/lj the consumer stated the vehicle was fixed. Updated 04/24/14.

18 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2013

I was traveling at about 40 mph down a main road, when I tried to stop at a red light. Upon pressing the brake, the whole brake system locked up, and there was resistance. I swerved to avoid the car in front of me, and ran into a mailbox on the side of the road. Prior to this, my car experienced overheating and smoke that blocked my view, and I was told that I had a blown head gasket. I am mentioning this because I see that others had the same issue. Gm needs to fix these problems before someone gets seriously hurt.

19 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

This vehicle has been difficult to crank, you have to manipulate the steering column, and repeatedly try to crank it. Key is difficult to remove. On sept 29, 2014, the key came out of ignition while in drive. I reported to gm at 18002221020 at 8am on sept 30, to , who took details, and said a sr. Service advisor would call me in 24-48 hours. No one did. I called gm back today and spoke to a hispanic man, who said rachel is the sr. Advisor assigned but she is not available at this time. I left a voice mail for her. I also contacted riverside Chevrolet in wetumpka alabama, and was told a service person would call me back.

20 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2012

I was driving and my car would not brake easily the abs kept kicking in for no reason I had almost hit a car infront of me because the brake pedal became so hard it also kicks in at low speeds and when trying to stop the vehicle. The brakes pedal starts pulputations and gets hard and making a noise like the abs has kicked on.

21 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2012

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph, she noticed that the brakes were pulsating abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was advised that the front hubs would need replacing. The vehicle was repaired but the pulsation continued. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that there was nothing they could do to assist. The failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage was 121,000. Updated 8/24/12.

22 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2012

I have a 2006 Equinox that I bought used with 91,000 miles on it. Only one previous owner with clean car fax. I love the car, but at least once a week it acts like it doesn't want to crank. I sometimes have to push the gas pedal to even get it to crank. I'm assuming this a fuel pressure problem of some sort. Also, once cranked the car will sometimes idle itself down from 1 rpm to 0 rpm then back to 1 rpm. There is also a clunking noise coming from back end of car where the fuel pump is. I have also had issues with having the headlights replaced because water gets into the headlights. Most of the Equinox's that I see on the road have water in the headlights. This a safety hazard because the headlight bulbs will burst when wet and you have no headlight until you have it fixed. (which you have to replace the headlights/tail lights yourself because part stores refuse to do the labor for you because you have to remove the entire headlight to even replace a bulb. This seems to me that Chevrolet did that so if you are a woman, like myself, you are forced to take it somewhere and have it replaced. ) there are also issues with the brakes and rotors wearing too fast. I have also had issues with the air conditioner. I have had to replace the resistor on the blower motor twice in 2 years. These may not be big problems to gm, but I rely on my car to take me to work and school and the fact that they genuinely don't care has forced me to not want to buy another Chevrolet again. Seeing as they had to have a government bail out previously to even stay in business, you would think that they would value their customers!.

23 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2011

Abs brakes activating at low speed. Brakes lock up momentarily at low speed, just prior to coming to a stop while decelerating. Vehicle has only 39000 miles on it.

24 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2010

Own a 2006 chevy Equinox and when braking or attempting to stop the vehicle I have to press on the brakes very hard. I can feel the brakes pumping (abs system) and making a rattling noise when trying to stop and the aba and track lights stays on.

25 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2010

Driving 2006 Equinox and the brakes were not working properly. The brakes did not press down and seem to be stuck.

26 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle would start to slow down. No warning lights illuminated on the instrumental panel. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who informed the contact to disconnect the electronic braking control module. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. The VIN was unavailable.

27 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2010

On my 2006 Chevrolet Equinox, the abs and traction control (tc) warning lights on the dash are on, and the brakes intermittently and frequently will not work, especially at slow speeds. They pulse and the car does not slow, until the brakes pedal is pushed to the floor. The garage has replaced the front wheel bearings twice, the abs control module, the struts, and also rotated the tires, and the problem persists. The diagnostic tester indicates front left wheel bearing. I see on the internet that this s a widespread and persistent problem on the chevy Equinox. We still haven't figured out how to fix it permanently.

28 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2010

As the vehicle is approaching a stop sign or stop light while braking the vehicle will get down to about 5mph or less and then the anti lock brakes will engage. This first started happening in parking lots at low rates of speed and I first thought it was possibly ice on the ground but as it is warming up and the roads are clear the problem is more persistent. The vehicle should be stopping and there is no reason for the anti lock brakes system to be coming on. The vehicle should be finishing coming to a complete stop not starting to pump the brakes.

29 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2009

Front brake rotors bad at 50,000. Problem started at 25000 miles on the vehicle. Took to authorized gm dealer and they stated that the warranty does not cover rotors even though this seems to be a common issue on this vehicle. When the brakes are pressed the brakes pulsate and the vehicle pulls to the right.

30 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2009

On 2/29/2009 abs system started to activate around 10-15 mph with or without brake pedal being depressed. This occurs all the time while moving forward or reverse. Vehicle is 2006 chevy Equinox with 27,500 miles.

31 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2007

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving approximately 30 mph on normal road conditions, the brake pedal pulsated when it was depressed. The front end of the vehicle began to shimmy. The vehicle unexpectedly pulled to the right without assistance. There were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection and they resurfaced the rotors. On six separate occasions, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for identical failures, but there were no resolutions. The repair consisted of resurfacing and replacing the rotors. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 18,287 and current mileage was 52,000.

32 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2006

Brakes and rotors were bad at only 1,200 miles from factory. Dealer wanted to just machine them down to fit but I made them replace them. Had both kids in car and car would not stop because of faulty brakes and rotors from factory.
