general problems of the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox - part 1

While driving suddenly stablitrak service light and engine light comes on. Door locks start unlocking and locking, all lights start flashing and car slows down. At the same time steering wheel becomes very tight and unable to turn. Happen while driving any speed. Have had many visits to mechanics: ecm replaced and programmed was the last attempt prior to that I had a new started put on. This is a known issue for Chevrolet's from my research. Recently bought a used 2014 chevy traverse lt and I'm started to see the same issues and I've only had it 1 week. I'm very upset these models aren't safe. To many times to count how many time it's happened maybe 30-40 in 1 year.

The car when I drive over the 60 miles, make auto break by self. Is really scary.

This vehicle is one of several that have been reported to have problems with wheel speed and psi sensors, which then causes the traction control to believe computer wise it has no traction, therefore the light is always on and the computer sometimes shut the traction control off when it needs to be on. It also has airbag trouble with the passenger seat, also like the recall. However, despite the fact 2007's were issued this recall, it's saying my �VIN� does apply to these recalls. Find that hard to believe when these things are messed up. Just want gm motors to awknowledge it's possible that this vehicle was mismanufactured.

No power steering, stabilitrak light on, car will not start.

I purchased a 2007 chevy Equinox from a private party back in January but due to a mix-up with the title and the previous owner I could not title the car and start driving it until March. I've noticed lately a strong smell of gas and a very loud clunking noise from the driver side front wheel. I took it to a local shop in my town and was told I had a gas leak at the top of the tank and that the sway bar linkage needed to be replaced . In doing my research I found that there was a recall for the fuel leak on the 2007 Equinoxes and that many people have had problems with the sway bar linkage going bad and the service stable track light constantly staying on. I also have the problem stating all wheel drive off flashing on my screen. I found that many people put their VIN numbers in the search window and found theirs not to be part of the recall but I'm wondering why if more than just the previous recalled vehicles are having the same issue wouldn't they want another recall issued for the ones that haven't been repaired. I just took it to a gm dealer today in my hometown and they want over $1,400 to fix just the fuel leakage problem I need to know what gm is going to do about it. I don't have 1400 extra dollars to fix this gas leak and I'm scared to drive the vehicle for fear of it starting on fire.

Car slows down , brakes lock up and get real hard, car want move. Try to put it in drive, brakes to hard , want move at all. Let it set for 35 min. Then car will move. Very dangerous, when car slow down and just stop, someone almost hit me.

Passenger airbag light shows not on all the time-with or without passenger in seat. Message to service airbags on all the time. Now seatbelt light is flashing even when in use. Service stabiltrack light comes on and off. Reading all the other comments I see this is a common complaint. Recently had my car in to replace fuel pump that was a recall for others but a "special repair" for my car. Told dealer about problems with airbag and stabilitrak and was told it would cost about $150. 00 each to do the diagnostic tests. What is it going to take for these problems to become recalls for all the affected cars?.

Over the past few days, my stabilitrak light has come on and off while driving or just sitting in the car. Pulling into my driveway today I noticed that the light came back on for the stabilitrak. I proceeded to drive and then suddenly it became increasing hard to maneuver my steering wheel almost to the point where it felt as if it had locked up on me. I was able to drive the car back home but as I was driving I notice my air bag light came on and will not go off at all. After making it back to into my driveway I cut off the ignition waited a few minutes and turned the car back on to see if this would help either of the problems but to no avail. I have now taken the car to my local Chevrolet dealer and they have informed me that they have sen this issue with a number of Equinox and it is indeed an issue my stabilitrak.

Driving down the street and I hear warning signal look down at dash it says stabilizertrack.

I havent had this car 6 months when the stabitack is messsing up not on just mine I've talked to many who own theses cars some are 08 and 09 and 07 thats a bit much why is there such a problem, many cant complain they dont know where to go for help. I stumbbled across this site. . . . This is a big deal I'm putting this site on facebook so people can complain. Gm needs to do somthing this is expenisive for folks to repair when there on a fixed income. Ive aways drove a Ford . This is making me reconsider my decision. . And I cant keep a starter on this car ive had 3 put on in the last 2 weeks. . . Whats the deal? this car and others are a areal pain I can provide you with many on a list that has this car and the problems and what drop down box??.

Driving on a busy highway and car lost power although did not shut off (this time). The stabilitrac light and the reduced engine light came on. The vehicle is again at the Chevrolet dealership (5th time since April 2014) for the exact same problem and it looks like the throttle bottle is (again) being replaced. The service manager and technicians indicated they don't know what the "real problem" is, and good chance the vehicle will develop the same issue again. This is a very unsafe vehicle condition, and I would like to sell the car but afraid to put someone else in danger.

I contacted gm about the issues,they made an appointment at a dealer,when I took it their the dealer refused making up every excuse he could,called gm several times but they say these items would be fixed ,it is all screwed up,gm does not give a damn about these hazards,problems still exist,reference number is 71-1330575330,their have been recalls except for ohio,give me a break,that is the stupidest thing since the vehicle has so many recalls. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Tail gate door does not open,motor is not working,potieniel hazard.

On 7-7-14, while driving home from the doctors' office, the vehicle slowed down. It was like I was driving on a washboard and was very hard to steer. When I pulled off the road and was backing up to park, it was as though I had no power steering. I turned the ignition switch off for a few seconds, and when I restarted the vehicle, I pressed on the brake pedal and attempted to move the shift lever, it would not move until I pressed the brake pedal as hard as I could. Then the vehicle responded normally. This problem has occurred on several occasions. In June 2014, we took the vehicle to the dealership in an effort to correct the problem. They readjusted the brake pedal switch. I had no problem until 7-7-14 . We took the vehicle back to the dealership and they quoted us a cost of over $600. 00 to replace the traction control module because they told us that it was unrelated to the first incident. However, the vehicle was doing the same exact thing as the first time we took it in. After reading other complaints identical to mine, I'm not very comfortable with what I'm being told regarding this problem. I'm the primary driver of this vehicle, since my husband suffered a stroke on 2-18-2013. Too bad you buy a vehicle and do not feel safe driving it. I hope no one is injured or killed before something is done to correct this problem.

On two occasions the power steering has gone out while I started my car. Each time this occurred I was unable to steer the vehicle. It was very dangerous to drive as it was very difficult to make right and left hand turns.

The vehicle has stable track link error and will not go away! parts have been replaced, both aftermarket and swapped for genuine gm and still the service engine soon light is on. The fuel gauge doesn't work properly and will just at random show over the full mark or under the empty mark when I have purchased fuel on the same day. The throttle body had to be replaced at 45,000 miles when the vehicle suddenly lost power and just sat on a busy road.

Car would not start even though the battery was full. Warning light said "stabiltrak" not working. Have to have the car towed in to repair/replace all electrics in the steering column.

The engine light on and stabilitity trak needs service?.

I was driving and all of a suddedn the steering got really hard ive been doing research and it appears there has been more cars like mine with the same problem definitly there should be a recall of somewhat plus the dealership is charging me $750 for repairs.

I have multiple issues currently and they all seem to be listed on other complaints. 1. The driver side window has completely stopped working. It seems to have become disconnected to the motor as I can hear the motor going up and down within the door. 2. Stabilitrak warning and engine light are constantly turning on and off. This has happened on and off over the past year or so but the dealership could not get a reading from the computer. Now it has been on for the past 2 weeks constantly 3. The temperature gauge in the instrument panel does not work. Took it into the dealer and they replaced the thermostat a few days later the gauge went haywire again. It gets worse when I fill up with gas and tends to mirror the gas gauge reading most of the time. 4. The key will not come out of the ignition when turning off the car. This is extremely frustrating. I put the car in park, turn the key off, the engine turns off but the key will not come out of the ignition. Have to turn car back on, put it in and out of park, turn the wheel, back up, drive forward or just sit and wait a few minutes and it comes out. 5. Occasionally the electronics go crazy - the turn signals won't work and the radio shuts down. It makes a sound when it does this as well, like a clicking noise but it only lasts for a few seconds and I can't figure out what causes it.

The vehicle just started to slow down, it was difficult to steer to get off the road. It felt like the car was locking up. There was a strong burning smell. I was concerned that there would be a fire. The vehicle would not go backward or forward. A tow truck had to be called. The diagnosis was the power brake booster, which they replaced. Two weeks later the car locked up again. Now they are saying the entire braking and stabilizer system has to be replaced.

The traction engine and stability error message stay illuminated on my car. The other day I was at an intersection where the cross traffic doesn't stop . When I decided to go the car would hardly move almost leaving me in the middle of the road where I could have been hit. This has happened several times, it feels as if it's a five sped and your trying to take off in 3rd gear. . . Very dangerous! I took it to a chevy dealer but they couldn't clear the codes . Sometimes the car has power and sometimes it don't. This is my 16 year old daughters car and she drives my other 4 girls to school . I give her my car because I know this isn't safe. I see there are hundreds if not thousands of people who are having these issues. This needs to be addressed before somebody dies! I have only owned this vehicle for 4 months ,this is my 2nd chevy I have owned and it will most certainly be my last.

While driving home my car suddenly became very very hard to steer I could not make right or left turns without extreme difficulty turning the wheel. In fact it felt like the power steering had completely went out in the 2007 Equinox. When I went to the Chevrolet garage they were no help but to tell me they would not do a thing until I paid $89 they would not even say if this was an issue experienced by anyone else in the past or about how much it could even cost if they found something. When I left the car started to act correctly but the stabilitrak service light came off and on again we asked about this at the garage they would not comment on that until we paid $89. 00. As I did not feel safe at all driving the car I remembered another place here in town that handled cars and the rebuilding of most any main featured items from motors to transmissions and went there the auto mechanic took the car for a drive of course the stabilitrak service light did not come on but the steering once again acted up. He immediate informed me that it was the power steering motor and we ordered it and had it installed last week June 20th. The garage had a lot of trouble getting the part because they had to deal with a dealer here in town and they gave them a very hard time. During this wait to get the part and have it installed the steering only acted up during the cold months but once the weather warmed up I did not have a problem and the light issue stopped. With the new motor the car drove well this weekend but now the light has again come on for the stabilitrak service. This is so very annoying as I have no faith in the dealerships here as all they can say “we need $89 to even step over to look at it”. Believe me when I say I will never buy a chevy again.

When your vehicle powers down, you lose the ability to safely maneuver your car- potentially causing an accident.

I was driving home from work on a busy interstate going nearly 60 mph when my traction control light came on, I lost engine power, my car jerked because of this and I was nearly hit from behind. This is a huge safety problem and should be fixed. After reading other complaints about the same issue, when is gm going to do something about this obvious problem for the consumer?.

I own a 2007 chevy eqinox I was on the highway when my SUV sterring wheel got very hard on me, couldnt even move it at all, I got very scared got of the freerway. I parked to the side to see what was wrong waited for a bit started with my vehicle again but couldnt move the steering wheel very hard to move by that point I just wanted to go home, no lights came on to warn me of problem. Then the tracking control and staibilty lights came on after 45min. Got home parked the vehicle. Next day the sterring wheel was ok everything seemed ok. Today (06/25/2013) same problem sterring wheel very hard couldnt turn left nor right almost had an accident. Took it to car dealer Chevrolet was diagnose with power sterring module control price $798. 50 this definitely needs to be a recall. Help.

First incident: stabilitrac control error. No codes stored! several calls & communications pointed to the egr valve. Replaced that ~ $79. Seemed fine. . . . Weeks later, stabilitrac error and loss of power steering while driving. Not good. Almost had an accident! still no error code !!!! could not track anything down. . . Put vehicle in shop. They determine that it was the power steering position sensor. Getting fixed @ $650+ price tag. Can't believe this is not a recall safety item since it seems to be happening no only to me. Please research problem and help recoup some of the $$$$. I don't mind paying for work and real identifiable problems, but this is ridiculous considering the safety involved.

The car starts to jerk while driving almost causing me to have an accident. The transmission jerks and the tractions control makes the car become undrivable. The computer in the car is defected I purchased the car last year in 2013 and the car computer transmission is no good.

On 1/28/13 I replaced the throttle body at gm certified dealer. Truck was diagnosed with code p2135 for failed throttle body and connector. While driving my 2007 chevy Equinox it displayed service traction control, service stabiltrak, engine power reducing and check engine light. On 7/5/13 I returned my truck back to the dealer. They diagnosed the truck again and replaced the part a second time. Now on 8/19/13 the truck was back at the dealer for third time and same issue. Dealer diagnosed my truck and could not find anything wrong at the time after I complained of same issue displayed on vehicle. 9/11/13 the service traction control/stabiltrak with check engine came on again. I took the truck back to the dealer and showed them video of the problem happening. This time they said they would diagnosed it and get to the bottom of my complaint. I called gm that day complaining of the same issue from last month. Gm reopened my case and said it would be transferred to another department level. The dealer called me later in the day and replaced the throttle body and connectors free of charge again. Every time while driving this truck I was traveling with my children and almost had accidents with this. This is unsafe and gm needs to have a recall on this part and model of truck. Some thing has to be done before it becomes fatal!!! hopefully this time the problem is corrected.

I noticed a gas smell when I got out of my car and when it is parked in my driveway. I took it to the dealership where I bought the car and they looked at it for me. They told me the gas tank was leaking a little bit from the top of the tank. I then did some research and found out that there is a recall on the fuel pump for the same reason. I live in kentucky and the recall is in the western states. Why is it only in those states it is a defect in the part itself and I feel as if it should be replaced just the same as the others. Also I am having a problem with the stabilitrack in my vehicle. A warning will appear on the dash that states service stabilitrack, stabilitrack off, and then it will state engine power reduced and the engine will reduce power. I have seen a lot of complaints online about that as well.
