general problems of the 2008 Chevrolet Equinox

Door locks they do not like to unlock lock, they will go halfway and get stuck and then I can’t get into my car.

I am constantly having to fix my "learn remote" settings, vehicle stereo volume does not always match the level of it's output, blinker continues to get stuck on even after the steering wheel is in the position for the blinker to have ceased, door locks are sometimes stuck unlocked and sometimes stuck locked, ignition sometimes locked in acc and will not allow for key to be removed, lug nuts have somehow become "swollen" and the dealership could not remove them in order to do a rotation, there is no protection plate under the vehicle causing easy access to vital items, the ac (for the third time since I got the car a year ago) has mysteriously stopped working, the fan motor continues to run for approximately 35 minutes after the vehicle has been turned off, fuel injectors are clogged (second time and I have already had this issue cleaned), headlights have collected water on inside, there is no rubber hose barrier(s) for any door, the hood, the hatch, the door windows, charging outlets are loosely fitted and do not add life to my electronics(they are for whatever reason being drained), the entire underside of the vehicle has become damaged, has begun to rust and bolts/plugs/other vital components have needed to be replaced once again due to there being no protection for the underside of the vehicle. These are just the components that I can think of off the top of my head!.

The car overheats within a very few minutes. Faster when idelling at a stop light or sign waiting to enter a busy street. I have replaced the thermostat, water pump, temperature sensor, antifreeze (with gm antifreeze) after flushing out the radiator, and it still gets hot. The dashboard heat gauge is not working but the warning “engine hot. Ac off” flashes all the time. We took the thermostat out so the coolent could circulate while the weather is warm. I am aware that the computer in the car has been replaced at least once and I think it may be malfunctioning now. I have an appointment with the service dept at mclaughlin Chevrolet dealer in milwaukie oregon on Tuesday June 22, 2021. I hope they will check the compression on the chambers and the computer. I want them to replace the sensor, thermostat, water pump and radiator cap with gm parts. I am slow income 80 years old grandma who helps her single daughter who works full time take care of her kids. I need to have a dependable car and I worry that if the computer does like first one did, we will get stranded on the freeway with a completely dead vehicle. Please let me know if there is any help with the expense of making it safe to drive.

While driving my headlights keep randomly shutting off while driving on the highway. When I try to turn the knob to turn them back on nothing happens. I have to turn the car completely off and start it again. And also when I press my lock button the car starts up with no key.

April 26, 2019 the engine in my 2008 chevy Equinox sport locked up. The vehicle was towed to midwest tire & auto in the cicero,IL for engine replacement. A week after retrieving my SUV on June 20,2019 from the shop it had an excessive engine oil and power steering fluid leak and it caught fire. While the occupancy of my wife and 3 children ages 7,4, and 2 were within 11 miles of travel from our residence along the highway. The vehicle was not recognizable from the interior, from front to center of the vehicle's body it was a grayish color. Showing the fire's intensity.

Door handles keep breaking.

The ignition locks up when shutting the vehicle off. It won't let the key turn the whole way off and locks it in place for anywhere from a minute to 5 minutes. Sometimes if you slam the shifter in park it will release but not always.

Engine losing power and car not turning on.

My wife was at work during a thunderstorm. Went to the car to leave and noticed that the front floorboard was soaking wet. I looked at it the next morning and the front driver MD passenger side was still soaking wet. I took a bucket of water and poured it from the roof down the window seal tower if any water was going to leak on the floor on the passenger side. Yes water was entering the the care from the passenger side floor. I checked the weathering strip to see if was damaged dry rotted which it was not. I been researching online and discovered that this is a common issue. I've read different forums stating the same issues. I also discovered this forum that give a bulletin number of some sort 08-08-57-001a dated for 10-08-08 models 05-09 Equinox talking about insufficient body sealer water entering v through seams in the floor pan on the driver and passenger side. Correction remove carpet and reseal the sheet metal seam. If this isn't the issue please find out what is because this is a common issue with these vehicles.

Just before thanksgiving 2016 my wife's car started alternating back and forth luke warm air to cold air. I have replaced the heater core, the blend motor door, bled the lines for air bubbles, and today the blower motor resistor. Nothing has changed the heater problems. It doesn't matter if the car is sitting or moving, it doesn't work right. If it's cold I can't keep my windows clear from fogging up or frost on my windows.

When I accelerate the vehicle or step on the gas I hear rushing water somewhere in the dash by the floor. It happens whether the car is in motion or stationary.

There is a strange sound of water sloshing under the dashboard. There is moisture build up in my headlights which have been replaced. My brake light go out several times a year. The most recent occurrence was just after my annual inspection - the driver side brake light was replaced, not two weeks later someone pulled up next to me while stopped at a light to tell me all my lights were out. The beginning of September 2016 I had an oil change and during the inspection the tech told me my driver side brake light was out and that the light at the top did not go on right away and flickered when it did. I have reached out to gm about a solution to the light issue - I have to take my truck in to be serviced at a gm dealership, it is going tomorrow sept 29th to bryner Chevrolet in jenkintown, PA.

Faulty head gaskets.

About 2 months ago my key started sticking in the cylinder and I was unable to take the key out. It would take 2-5 minutes before it will release the key. It has gotten more frequent so I had someone check it out. He found a recall reference #09-02-35-005c which states that Chevrolet Equinox from 2007-2009 built prior to 7/2008 will need to have a new cylinder ignition lock part #20869121 installed for ignition key difficult to remove, binds or sticks. My car was built in 2007 yet the chevy dealership says there is no recall for my VIN# which according to your recall notice is not true. Please contact me ASAP about this matter. I have a water sound under my dash. Possible coolant that may drop inside the car.

I had to start replacing head lights due to moisture in my head lights. This is a manufacturing problem. I have mention this to chevy several times when we had the car service. The response was this is normal. This is not normal. They wanted me to pay half of the cost. I refused. They said that because it's not under warranty. I pray one night that I'm not driving and get into a accident due to light failure. This should be recall to prevent accidents and added expense due to chey negligence. I have own many cars and never had moisture in my head lights. I would like this to be corrected by chey. I'm not able to provide dates from last year, when I brought it up to the chevy dealership. They would have that information when the car got service . Chevy Equinox 2008.

Window on passenger front door will not work. It went down and with extreme slowness finally got it to roll back up. Cannot use at all now.

Door locks on all 4 swinging doors act inconsistently. When locking valuable items with the remote, only some of the doors would lock. Very dangerous and I see this should be a recall with all the complaints on the internet. Wife doesn't on feel safe if she need to get in her car and lock the doors only to find 2 of the doors did not lock.

I own a 2008 chevy Equinox. I am having the same complaints. My service air bag come on and off intermittently. When its warm outside the passenger air bag seems to work fine. The passenger side door lock works intermittently as well. The funny thing is the door lock seems to work better in the winter months. Also, I have experienced my service stabilitrak and traction control light come on intermittently as well. It doesn't seem to affect the vehicle when I am driving. It will stay on for a couple of days then one day it will be gone. It will stay off from a few weeks to a few months. Then it will start the process all over again. I am very disappointed with chevy. I purchased it because chevy is supposed to be reliable regardless of the miles and now I am afraid to put my children in it and drive it out of town. All this started happening around the 100,00 mile mark I am now at 110,000.

My key sometimes is very hard to get out of the switch.

Read out on dash, flashes " service air bag soon " this has happened multible times when first starting the car. I am reporting this because of the current recall on some vehicles and the worry that the air bags may deploy on their own.

The car has been taken to a few shops and I have been told that there is nothing physically wrong with the vehicle. Currently it looks like the pcm/ ecm is failing on the car which has been a reason for a recall of prior year's vehicles. I also have my car that fills up with water every time that it rains.

Interior plastic door handle mechanisms are breaking and broken. Given the fact that we cannot exit our vehicle, this would strike me as a huge safety issue! given the fact that 3 out of 4 total handles are now broken, this is obviously not just a one-time fluke. Gm customer care on twitter refuses to acknowledge safety concern exists and the dealership wants to charge $51 plus tax minimal for new parts on a safety-related item. After all, if the ignition switch fails and you get into a fiery accident, how are you supposed to exit the vehicle? the affected interior door handles broken thusfar are as follows: lf, lr, and rf. I noticed that after a large thunderstorm that had a large amount of water pouring down, my car had a inch of water on the back floor in front of 2nd row. The seats were not wet and only the floor in back was wet and was seeping towards front. This meant that my windows were not open because my seats where not wet. I went to dealership and they would not do anything for me as they said it had to be my fault. Well a year later they finally agreed mold was growing and something was wrong. They stripped my car down to the metal and found water sitting all over in any nook and cranny that was in the frame. They beleive anytime I went through a car wash or it rained on my car, I was getting water inside. Service advisement number 08-08-57-001a states that they may have not sealed up to 15 points on the Equinox between 2005-2009. The dealership did not even know about this advisement as I had to read through some blogs to find it and it was the real deal. I had over 4 inches of water sitting in my spare tire wheel well.

Locks on car have got to where they may or may not lock or unlock. Not only very inconvenient to get in or out of car but could very well be a major safety issue in the event of a wreck and not able to get out.

Door locks occasionally failing to lock/unlock when using keyless entry or internal door look switch. Warmer weather appears to contribute to the frequency in which the doors fail to look/unlock.

I have a 2008 Chevrolet Equinox ltz purchased new. My complaint is similar to many of the reports by drivers involved in the gm recall on ignitions. Like them, I cannot remove my key from the ignition. Fortunately, my car has not stalled, but I wonder if that's next. When turn off my ignition, occasionally I must wait up to a minute for the ignition to release the key. I wait to hear a certain sound and then am able to pull the key from the ignition. While waiting, I realize that I'm in a vunerable position since crimes occur against those sitting in cars. I don't want to leave my car with the key in the ignition, so I wait. I read a few years in the Equinox forum at edmunds. Com that others have had this experience. Some took their cars to the dealers, but the problem was never solved. So I didn't take mine to a dealer since it seemed pointless. Some in the forum recommended to remove everything from the keychain, except the key. I did that 2-3 two years ago. It didn't solve the problem, and I don't know if it mitigated the problem from escalating like those involved in the recall. If you plan to investigation, I'll be glad to provide my VIN.
