general problems of the 2011 Chevrolet Equinox - part 1

Three times now my gas pedal has stuck down to the floor and had unsafe speeds reaching 95mph this is unsafe for us and others on the road wrote gm several times now with no help from them this needs to be checked out for everyone out there how many wrecks and rear end collision happened because of this acceleration issue mine seem to happen when you take it off cruise control and then accelerate the gas pedal but he dealerships can't find an answer I am asking for your help before someone get killed because no one wants to take action.

Catalytic converter, exhuast manifold, and whole exhaust system need to be replaced.

I bought this off of a private person ,shortly after it started not taken its gas and dying out on the highway or short errands ,I started putting a bunch of money in it ive replaced all I know to do and it still wont takes its gas ,I have been stalled in an intersection before because I had no pedal if you turn it off it starts but just wont take the gas ,I heard this vehical was recalled and I dont know if its never been fixed or whats going on with it ,ive had it to many mechanics and no one can fix it ,can you tell me if any of this is on the recall list and if its been taken care of it ? I cant drive it like this its too dangerous . I bought the car in 24 , and its never ran since with out issues that no one can find the problem of fix it the right way ,thank you.

I had just bought this car from a friend of mine and the first couple days it was fine then I was on the interstate and it started making this loud sound and stop going in the middle of the interstate and I was stuck on the interstate with my child and couldn’t get the dam thing to go anywhere I called someone to come help me they looked at it and said it was the engine or the time and chain I’m not really sure of what the problem is but it scared me so back I couldn’t get over to the shoulder to save my life I was stuck.

Purchased the car from some that passed away and did not get these items fixed before I got it. Coverter/ lossing/using oil, and electric power steering system problem.

I purchased a 2011 chevy Equinox lt from a used car dealer in April 2022 with 153,000 miles on it. The second day I had it the brake caliper completely fell off of my front passenger tire causing my wheels to lock. Couple days later I noticed that after an extended time of driving anything more than 10-15 minutes it. The rpms would fluctuate sometimes dropping down to zero and the vehicle stalls. The excessive amount of oil used in this vehicle is ridiculous I literally got an oil change and a week later it said I was low but my oil notification on my dash messages said oil life remaining 95% check engine light comes on and it's the p0042 for catalyst system not at threshold. This literally should be a class action lawsuit because this is ridiculous.

I was pulling out of a business in my town and the vehicle shut off several feet onto highway us 41 with traffic comeing both way towards me and I was stopped crossways and coasted into a vacant lot . I kept pushing the accelerator and it stated back up and stopped again ,then suddenly started and I made it home!I had it checked at my home by a licened mechanicand all codes read everything was w. Orking as it should,no default error, I could have easily ben killed when it stopped,now what should I do?.

Windshield wiper linkage motor/ transmission. Replaced once already. Stopped working again. Bushings are crap. Having to replace the whole thing for bad bushings.

The back hatchback will not stay open and has caused some minor injuries on accessing objects in back of car. .

I have had constant high oil consumption, have had to replace vvt solenoids twice, timing and balance shaft chains had to be replaced, engine misfiring. Can barely go 2 months without any issues. Always something wrong. I've looked this up and many people have had similar issues with this engine.

Traction control light goes on and off. The service department told me the problem is the speed sensor. It was repaired for $463. 91. I then traveled 31/2 hours away for a month. The next day the light again appeared but I was traveling and I called twice to the dealer service person and there was no return call. . When I returned 4 weeks later I brought the car in the dealership and was told for $585. 00 I could have the left rear wheel repaired. Frankly I felt like I was being taken advantage of, I'm 80 years old. I refused their offer. In the past I received notices of potential problems with the Equinox but the dealer service people do not inform, maybe because they are on a commission plus salary income.

My transmission has been replaced 3 different times. Have had my viechle for almost 2 years and my transmission is messed up again oil is burning and they car shops have no idea where its going. Jerking car when foot is on break whirring noise when accelerate or turning.

While driving in heavy rain on a highway my front windshield wipers simply stopped functioning in the up position causing an inability to see where I was going. They did not respond to repeated attempts to try to turn them back on. This created a very dangerous situation where I had to do my best to safely pull off to the side of the highway. My hazard lights also failed to work making the situation even more dangerous. Both wipers and hazards where previously working.

Car keeps dying while driving at low speeds, stop signs, stop lights ect. Idles very roughy, and is very loud. Check engine light is on.

This vehicle is unsafe! I was driving down the road in my city and it cut off several times when I was slowing down approaching a stop light causing someone to almost hit me! I have had so many issues since I bought this car(wish I never would have) I had to replace my transmission at 102,000 miles, I have to put 2-3 quarts of oil in my car every 2 weeks, and now it is cutting off while I am driving! these vehicles need to be recalled and never made again!!!.

It started making a loud noise like a diesel engine and it will just cut off for no reason. I keep up all my maintenance it has low mileage. It was in motion when it cut off and I almost hit an 18 wheeler.

My vehicle has been idling rough since I purchased my vehicle on 9/6/19. The vehicle almost feels as if I am continually tapping my breaks although my foot is on the break and on 10/12/19 my check engine light turned on so I had the codes ran at autozone which stated to replace the catalytic converter. 2 days prior my mother who purchased a 2013 Equinox had her check engine light come on for the same issue after just purchasing her car 2 weeks after me.

I am experiencing the same problems as the ones that are recalled for oil issues. However my VIN number wasn't listed. My pcv valve is stuck. Possible issue with inside the intake crank case and with that I don't want a blow out. Losing power and using a lot of oil. I have the 2011 chevy Equinox lt purchased less than 2 years ago.

At about 88,000 miles, while starting from a stop, and also while climbing a hill, the transmission started to slip into a neutral position instead of a higher or lower gear. I had to take my foot off the accelerator and let it idle down before it would go into a gear. 02.

Rear seal blow out due to pvc being clogged.

Massive oil leak from engine and rear main seal blew out.

Since I bought the car I have had to take it in every other week. The first time I took it in they said it was the head gasket and replaced it. After they repaired it the car continued to have problems. When I'm at highway speeds the car drives rough like a jerking sensation and then the check engine light flashes. This car has had nothing but problems.

Recall on the front seat there's a recall in the engine area electrical surges there's a recalled beginning of the cranking up part of the car there are more recalls but I am not for sure of the rest.

Purchased vehicle in February 2018. As of July 2018, my ac compressor has gone out & the service stablititrak warning keeps coming on. This shouldn't be happening 6 months after purchase.

Takata recall. My 2011 Equinox was parked and turned off . I went to get my 2 year old out of the car and the car took itself out of park. I was draged by the door and received many injuries. The car was parked in my neighbors driveway when it began rolling backwards with my kids inside.

Timing belt failed within two years of the first time being fixed. First time was when vehicle was purchased used at approx 123k, second time it has failed is approx 179k. There is an ongoing oil consumption issue with the vehicle. I have heard that there is a recall on the oil issue that was not publically announced and I would like to find out why it wasnt if in fact this is an issue. Timing belt should not fail twice . Took vehicle in to shop after vehicle began shaking violently and jumping while stopped at a light, in drive with the breaks on. When I went to drive, vechicle would drive but had severe loss in poer and was vibrating the whole time. Upon taking to the shop and having an engine diagnostic test done, it was confirmed that the timing chain was indeed stretched out and would need to be repaired at a cost of $2500. This repair had been made two years prior as well , having had to replace the chains and such due to this recurring and ongoign oil issue.

Had my car for 6 years and changed oil every 3000 miles. Last week it ran out of oil overnight! and now I've been having to put in a quart of oil every 200 miles or so. It could have ceased up my whole engine and ruined it! the engine light didn't even go on to tell me there was an issue. It is like it was a sneak attack and it sounds like this sort of thing is happening to other owners. It should have been recalled when they found this issue. As it is, I'm going to have to have major repairs done to use it at all. Car will be worth less than repairs and it's not even paid off yet.

Rattles when starting the vehicle. Smells of gasoline from vehicle when running. This began in December 2017 and continues to this day.

Stalling out while sitting in drive at red light. Got up for work and turned truck on, sounded very rough. Put truck in reverse and took off and when stopping at a red light the rpms would move on their own, car starts bouncing, motor is rattling, and sometimes stalls out. I have to put the truck in neutral at every light for it to not rock back and fourth. Next day check engine light came out, readings indicated it was the throttle sensor body and the solenoids. I replaced all of these and truck is still running the same, and check engine light is still on. After doing research I have read well over 50 of the same complaint of these vehicles doing the same thing! we need help!.

Catalytic converter is bad and there is knocking in the fuel system.

After lifting the automatic liftgate with the key fob it went up and after a few seconds it fell almost hitting my husband . Dates are not approximate . We got the right side fixed and was told the left side needs fixed also is this a recalled item.

My heater is blowing cold air in February.

I purchased this car in 2014 with approx. 80,000 miles on it but was told by the sales associate that this was a great car and a great deal. This car has been nothing but problems. The car has a ticking noise and sounds like a diesel but everytime I took it in to chevy they told me this is the way chevy cars sound and that nothing was wrong with it. Finally my engine light turns on and the car will no longer turn on so I have to get it towed and they tell me the intake cam actuator solenoids went out so they replaced it. Then I continue to hear the ticking noise and the car still runs rough and loud but again they tell me nothing is wrong with the car. Once again the engine light comes on and I have to get towed back into town over two hours away for them to tell me the tranmission needs to be replaced. I contacted gm and was told this is what happens when you buy a used car. How rude! now I am no longer under the extended warranty and my car is back at chevy. They want me to pay for 4 hours of labor to take apart my engine so they can tell me what exactly is wrong with my car but did mention a problem with the timing chain. Are they crazy? these cars are a complete joke. I can not believe that gm would not recall these cars with the extensive issues that so many people are having with them. I mean seriously they should back up their products so people will continue to buy them. If you ask me im sure this car has a problem with the oil consumption which was why I heard the ticking noise and is why the car sounded so loud and heavy like a diesel. They not these cars have a major engine issue but do nothing about it. I still have several years left to pay off this car and am completely upside down. All I want is for gm to pay off this car so I can take my services elsewhere. Drove a Honda with over 200,000 miles before it gave me any type of problems. Very disappointed.

The 2011 2. 4 l engine Equinox is under recall, except for mine. I own a 2011 2. 4 l engine Equinox that has every problem as the one that is being recalled. Gm is telling me that there are no defective parts on my car, even though my car has been stalling while driving, while turning, while stopping. My car has everything wrong with it that is listed on the recall. The pvc system, water in the air box. Our mechanic took out 1/2 cup of water out of the air box yesterday. In addition, the car consumes mass amounts of oil. This vehicle will give you no warning and then just stall out. Last year, my car stalled while driving and then a reduced engine power light came on. I ended up having to replace the throttle body at not even 90,000 miles. This car poses a threat to the person driving as well to any other car that may be near it as there is no warning given that stalling may occur. No check engine lights come either. No low oil lights. Nothing. I took my car in yesterday because it stalled 7 times on my route to work. My mechanic was able to diagnose the problem and found the problems with the 2011 Equinoxes. I have been turning and just had my car shut off, I have pushed the gas pedal and had nothing happen. I have had my car stall out to check the oil and find no oil on the dipstick. I have stopped for traffic and my car will just shut off. Gm has told us on more than one occasion there are no recalls on my car. Just other 2011 2. 4 l engine Equinoxes reporting the same problem.

I was driving the car and the traction/stabilizer control turned on with the engine light and a message stated slowing down. Then the truck stayed at 20mph, I was kinda on the highway and almost hit someone. The engine sound good. Other people online have the same issue. Why is it not a recall.
