I was driving on a busy rural route when I came to a stop , went to take off the car had no power. I have only had this vehicle 1 month, and the code says it it the transmission control module . Luckily we were not hit after about 30 seconds it kicks in and has power , not very safe at all .
The transmission control module (tcm) has failed. When the vehicle is started the check engine light comes on. When the vehicle is put into either "r" or "d" the vehicle lurches, and the "r" or "d" flashes. When this occurs the vehicle is not operable. Pressing the accelerator - the vehicle does not move forward. This condition will also occur during operation of the vehicle without warning. Regardless of travel speed at the time, the vehicle will slam into a low gear. This creates a very serious safety risk. On a wet, snowy, or icy road it would surely cause the operator to loose control and cause an accident. My particular vehicle has less than 38,000 miles. For the transmission control module (tcm) to fail on a vehicle with this few miles is totally unacceptable. For it not to be warrantied is also not acceptable, and a calculated decision on the part of the manufacturer to avoid liability for an issue it is aware of that regards the safe operation of its vehicles. Upon research, there are several other complaints of this same nature on-line. A recall should be issued.
The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced three separate sudden acceleration failures. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer, where the transmission control module and the power train control module were updated. The dealer stated that they could not guarantee the repairs would remedy the failure. The contact also stated that for the past 100 miles, the failure had not occurred. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 3,800. . . . . . . Updated 08-03-12.
