I own a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox (purchased in September 2011) that had been diagnosed by a certified GMC dealership (carl black GMC roswell, GA) with the exact same conditions as GMC service bulletin no. : 12313d special coverage adjustment engine balance chain and fuel pump. While my 2012 model is not listed as covered, I am requesting special considerations for my vehicle to be included in this sca given the exact match in vehicle symptoms and very close chronological proximity to the covered vehicles. I have attached two copies of the bulletins, 1 from your website and 1 from gm. Thank you.
After starting vehicle and putting into drive, the electronics of the car shut off (the radio, air condition, screen, power steering, etc) and the car would not accelerate. The vehicle was re-started; however, the same issue occured several times in a row. The vehicle was moved to a parking lot. The vehicle was towed to a Chevrolet dealership and the dealership service department called to inform that the fuel pump was leaking into the fuel oil crankcase (which is a known issue with the 2010 and 2011 Chevrolet Equinox and there is an existing recall for this issue).
There seems to be an issue with the fuel pump clogging/not working properly. I have researched it and even contacted chevy about the inferior fuel pumps in all the Equinox models.
The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the fuel pump and timing chain failed. The contact stated that the oil pressure sensors failed prior to the other failures. The contact also stated that the vehicle consumed an abnormal amount of oil. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was repaired. The contact also stated that the pistons and rings were replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 32,000.
This vehicle exhibits the exact same issues noted in bulletin #12313b, which affects the 2010 and 2011 2. 4l Equinox. Over the last several months the engine became increasingly louder. A large amount of fuel was discovered in the crankcase. The dealer replaced the timing chain assembly and the high pressure fuel pump as outlined in bulletin #12313b, but the 2012 model year is not included under the special coverage of 10 years, 120k miles, as outlined in the bulletin. This special coverage should be extended to later model Chevrolet Equinox 2. 4l engines. The coverage is a necessity due to the wear that has occurred from fuel being in the oil.
The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated as the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 90,000.
The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle stalled and the engine seized. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The mechanic replaced the fuel pump and fuel control module, and cleared the failure code; however, the failure recurred multiple times. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 88,913.
Ses, air bag stabilitrak and abs lights illuminated. Auto reduced power down to idle. When turned off and re-started, power returned to normal. This has happened four times since purchased new. The high pressure fuel pump has been replaced three times and the fuel sensor has been replaced once, requiring the gas tank to be removed in order to replace sensor. Also, airbag system inoperable twice since new, with sensors being replaced twice. Vehicle currently has 27,000 miles, still has bumper to bumper and powertrain warranty and is being processed through an attorney firm applying the lemon law. Gm has made two low offers. Negotiations are still pending. Owner has lost all interest and trust in vehicle.
The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle stalled. The contact was unable to restart vehicle. The vehicle was towed to dealer where a faulty fuel pump was located. The vehicle was repaired however the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to dealer again and the failure was related to bad wiring and a fractured terminal on the fuel line. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and a claim was filed. The current mileage was 5,400. The failure mileage was 3,000.
