1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2025

Service stabilitrak, power steering light, check engine light. Door locks lock and unlock continuously. Randomly has no acceleration, causes jolting at a low speed. Available for inspection ASAP. The code “uo101” comes up in a diagnostic test. Overall, the car basically shuts down while driving at no specific speed. Safety of myself and others is at risk because this can cause an accident resulting in being rear ended/collision with car and other vehicles as it randomly happens when driving. I took my car to the dealership on 3/5/25 and expressed this issue and they could not diagnose it as it was not physically happening after I dropped it off to them. They had the car for 4 days and couldn’t duplicate the issue. They gave back the car and told me there was no issue with the vehicle and it is continuing to happen again. They told me to get proof of the incident on video when it happens again. (I was able to get a video today 4/3/25) there is no warning before this event happens. It will go away and not happen for a few days and then the next day it is not drivable. I am concerned for the safety of myself and others and would like to find the cause of this once and for all. I’d like for the dealership to not send me away without a reason why this is happening or fixing my vehicle.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2025

While my daughter was driving in very cold weather . . . She here a pop sound and all warning lites fir low oil came on. . . She stopped immediately. . The car was towed and a blocked frozen pcv vent caused the rear seal to blow. . . Gm is aware of this defect with no intention to reimburse for repairs.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2024

I was driving in busy traffic with no warning signs, no check engine lights when all of a sudden my engine lost power an would not restart. I had to get a tow from kentucky to michigan to a near by mechanic where he ran a boroscope. The timing chain failed which then valves hit the pistons. I know this has been a big problem for this year Equinox.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2024

While driving down the interstate at approximately 70 mph the Equinox would locks would start to cycle and at the same time the service stabiltrak and service power steering line would come on and the vehicle would drastically slow to around 30-40 mph, almost causing an accident. This is a well known issue with Chevrolet and they have not tried to resolve the issue. This is going to cause major issues when someone gets in a wreck. There is no definite fix out there for this issue and Chevrolet needs to be held accountable for this and fix this issue.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2024

High oil consumption, plugged/damaged pcv valve. This is a known problem with 2010-2014 chevy Equinox and a special coverage was issued in 2015, but not all affected vehicles were included in this special coverage, but my vehicle was not included even though the model, year, mileage, and specific issue are all the same as other Equinox's that do fall under this special coverage. The special coverage needs to be extended to additional vehicles and chevy will not address this complaint from me directly. The safety issue is that this problem was going on for months, but the check engine light did not go off to alert me of an issue. I noticed a sound when the vehicle was idling and when my car was suddenly not making it to the next scheduled oil change without being extremely low on oil. Had I not noticed the sound or checked my oil level on the spot (which the average consumer may not due) my engine would have seized up on the highway because it was down 3 quarts even though I had a recent oil change. The car does not make it between standard oil change time frames of 3,000-4,000 miles due to the heavy oil consumption from the defective pcv valve.

6 Power Train problem

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2023

Service stabilitrak & power steering light comes on after initial start up or in the middle of driving intermittently cause car to jolt back & forth while driving which can cause an accident if someone or car is near, could hear that car was attempting to lock & unlock doors while errors appear on dash. When changing gears a jolt and loud knock sounds occurs, now check engine light appears, this has caused a new issue now code states to replace transmission valve body assembly…unable to locate part anywhere & I’m not clear what may be causing issue since it happens intermittently. Changed battery, msgs stopped appearing on dash for a week. Boom hopes were high now msgs are there again…. Total nightmare. I just bought this car!!!.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2023

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 mph the contact noticed that the tachometer had jumped to 4200 rpm. The contact stated that the instrument cluster needles went to zero then began to jump from zero and up the down to zero. The contact stated that the vehicle began to lose forward momentum so she depressed the accelerator and the vehicle did not gain forward momentum. The contact stated the check engine, stability track, service power steering warnings were illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had occurred several times before. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle had not been diagnosed and had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. 12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2022

At 129,000 miles the car threw a p0420 code for the catalytic converter being bad. Yes, it is available for inspection. The car burns up oil like it gets paid for it at about the rate of a quart every other week or so which is a known issue for this type of vehicle but chevy refuses to issue a recall for this year for some reason. The catalytic converter failure is directly related to the excessive engine oil consumption. The check engine light is illuminated.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2019

2014 chevy Equinox will stall when accelerating. This happens at anytime while driving you go to accelerate and the car turns off, this could potentially cause an accident. I have taken my vehicle in numerous times and spent over 2k on repairs. Currently my vehicle does not have a check engine light on, no codes. It appears that everything is operating normally. It is not, I will not let my daughter drive this car because I am worried that she could be involved in an accident. I recently found that gm had identified that this vehicle consumes a large amount of oil and it causing issues similar to what I am reporting. Only issue is they are requiring a oil consumption test requiring multiple visits to the dealership over an extended period of time. Which I have done and they still say its not their problem. In the mean time I am going to continue to stall pulling into traffic, putting my life and others life at risk. There needs to be a mandatory recall and correct this issue. My last two oil changes I had less than 2. 5 quarts left. There is no leak on my vehicle, and I change my oil about every 5k miles per manufacturer suggestions.

19 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2019

Vehicle dies intermittently throughout all driving ranges. From idling to driving at road speeds. Multiple times in a trip or randomly.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2019

On Thursday, 31 January I was driving my 2014 chevy Equinox home from work on the highway doing about 60-62 mph and heard a popping noise followed up with my car making a loud noise and the display stating the car was low on oil and the engine was powering down, to stop the car immediately. Luckily I was able to pull into a local muffler shop before my car died. They were able to diagnose the problem after some diagnostics and stated that they had seen this same issue recently with multiple chevy Equinoxs. They also informed me of a TSB dated Jan 22, 2016. The ref # is pip5093b. They were unable to repair my vehicle and recommended that I contact chevy about a possible recall and to have the vehicle towed to a dealership. As soon as I called the dealership, I told the gentleman I had a chevy Equinox with a major oil leak. He immediately told me it was the rear main seal. I asked him how he knew that and he stated that with the cold weather we have been having that he had a few others in the shop currently that were getting repaired for the same issue. I asked if there was any type of recall or anything and was told it was not. I contacted chevy and asked about the issue. I tried to stress my concern with the fact that this has been happening so much recently with the hopes that this would be looked into by chevy. A case was immediately created, and I was told that I would have to have the vehicle officially diagnosed by a chevy dealership before anything could be done. So I had my vehicle towed to a chevy dealership since it was not drivable. While the tow truck operator was loading my car for transport, he informed me that he had recently towed multiple Equinox's recently due to the same massive oil leak. The dealership contacted me and confirmed the issue was the rear main seal. I was told that the cost of repairs would be $2,184. 00 + tax.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle started to decelerate independently, the oil pressure warning indicator illuminated, and the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the pcv valve was obstructed. The blockage caused significant pressure in the engine, which caused the rear main seal between the engine and transmission to allow oil to pour from the seal. The vehicle was not repaired. Tim lally Chevrolet (located at 24999 miles rd, bedford heights, OH 44128, (440) 232-2000) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 9-5027280547. The approximate failure mileage was 107,000.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2019

Your gm bulletin 14882 should be a complete recall for all Equinox's. This part is hazardous, and has cost way too many people alot of money. I have maintained my vehicle that I have only had 1 year and now because of your "special" bulletin and bullcrap that it wasn't built in a special plant I have to spend more then what the truck is worth to put a brand new motor in my SUV. As I was driving down a busy highway my vehicle died in the middle of the road in -55 degree weather. In conditions that the pcv rear seal system cannot handle and you all know this, but refuse to take action. How can you be ok with this, and allow people to continue purchase these vehicles? no at chevy, gm, nor at the dealership seem willing to help in any sense and it is really sad, we have been buying chevy since as long as I can remember, and it looks like I may have to start looking at Nissan or even Ford because at least they care about their customers. 1 year I owned the vehicle, and I either have to use it as a lawn ornament - or pay $8,100. 00 to fix it - unreal.

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2019

It was a very cold morning and I was dropping my daughter off at school on my way to work on a state rt. My engine started making a weird noise and the low oil pressure light came on and instructed me to turn the car off. I pulled over and when I got out of the car I noticed that all of the oil had leaked out of my car onto the ground. Luckily, my husband was off work that morning and able to come and pick me up before I froze to death. A tow truck took my vehicle to the shop that works on our cars. They wanted nothing to due with it due to the fact that this was a known problem for the year make a model of my vehicle. They gave us a copy of a bulletin that was sent out by gm, ref # 14882, stating the exact situation that occurred with my vehicle. We had it towed to a dealership and they informed us that my VIN # was not covered. How could this be ok? if there is a faulty part installed into a vehicle, how can the customer be responsible for paying for the repairs? if you search this exact situation on the internet, you will find several complaints similar to mine. On top of being responsible for over 2000. 00 in repairs, they also charged me for an oil change and alignment. How is this good business?.

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2019

Vehicle has 66,000 miles on it and is a 2014. Bought the vehicle used. Always had oil changed on time and took very good care of vehicle. While driving on a morning it was -5 degrees outside the check engine and the oil light came on. A minute later, the motor shut off. The car started back up but was towed to our mechanics garage. Our mechanic completed a diagnostic and ruled the problem to be the pcv/rear seal. I called gm motors because I saw a gm bulletin stating that this has been an ongoing issue with this year, make and model of vehicle. They informed me that our VIN was not covered because the car's parts were not manufactured in a specific factory. I requested an explanation as to why that matters if it is still happening to our vehicle. Gm refused to give me an answer. They suggested that I tow my vehicle to a gm dealership to get the diagnostics from them. I did so. It cost $95. Gm escalated my issue within the company. I waited 3 days for an answer as to if they would help pay for the cost to fix this problem-which the dealership stated would cost $1800. 00. Gm called me back and said they cannot help and there is nothing they can do. I will continue to look further into this issue and file more complaints. The customer service was poor and the representative that my case was pushed up to was extremely rude and not helpful. I asked them to help pay for a rental vehicle while our car gets fixed and they refused.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2018

Driving down highway and reduced engine power light comes on, electric stability control comes on check engine light. Car slows from 70mph to 20mph. Starts smelling very hot.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2018

Greetings, we purchased a used chevy eq. A few months ago at 59000 miles for my wife, currently 60000. Since I bought it the engine has rattling/clicking noise. I bought the vehicle with a rebuilt title from an individual and the noise wasn't that bad. I thought it was because of old oil and hadn't suspected such an engine problem. I am a mechanical engineer myself and couldn't think that an engine would have a defect which affects all of these chevy vehicles so I purchased it. Today I contacted chevy customer service and explained the problem. I was told that they receive too many same complaints. However, there is no recall related to 2014 year models and since it went to salvage condition that it is now out warranty. My car had a front bumper accident, and no radiator or engine issue after the accident. So it is definitely related to a defected engine. Although the powertrain is protected up to 100k miles, due to the title status the owner has to pay for all the expenses. I was told that, if it had a recall, regardless of title status they would repair it. They used a very bad defected engine in their vehicles and did not issue a recall. There are too many similar complaints posted on websites by upset owners, but they still do not issue a recall in order not to cover this problem. I am very regret that I purchased a gm vehicle. I will never again. Can NHTSA do something about it, because these engines are really dangerous on the roads. People posted the same problem about their car which have only 8 to 20k miles in them. The vehicle makes this rattling noise on idle, on reverse gear very much and loses so much power between 20-55 mph, does not accelerate properly and the noise is increased during acceleration. It was addressed as timing chain issue. The engine burns oil. Thank you. Best regards, sedat peker.

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2017

The the service traction control service stabilitrak lights with the engine light came on and I lost engine power and was "reduced power. " this was while driving slowly getting up to speed. Happened again a few days later when going about 40 mph and I could not go any faster, I had to pull over and stop driving. Parked the car for 3 hours then it was fine. Still not clear as to what caused this. Engine light is still on.

28 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

My 2014 Equinox uses 1. 5 to 2. 0 ots. Of oil every 1500 - 2000 miles. The engine oil sensor does not indicate any problems or low oil capicaty. My 2014 Equinox makes a loud roaring noise from the rear end on both sides and now will start to shake sometimes when driving, when I apply the brakes it makes a bumping sound.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2016

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle downshifted and lunged forward without warning. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 44,644.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2016

I turned my vehicle off to get gas and when I started my vehicle back up, the heating, air conditioning, defrost, radio controls and the center instrument panel lights had all become inoperative. Everything stayed inoperative for 2 days. On the third day, I was getting ready to leave and started my vehicle up but then realized I forgot something and turned my car off. I returned to my vehicle to restart it but the vehicle would not start. The center instrument panel lights and radio controls suddenly returned working but everything else that had been inoperative (the defrost, a/c and heating), stayed inoperative and my vehicle now showed the message "service power steering" under the gas gauge. I attempted to start the vehicle a day later but nothing had changed and it would not start. The vehicle was stationary when anything had become inoperative on the vehicle.

31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2015

My husband and I bought brand new 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. Thinking that this would be an investment as a reliable and safe family car, it has been nothing but a headache. It currently has less than 60k miles and it has engine failure problems and isn't drive-able. . . The engine unexpectedly lost power while my husband was driving down the 91 freeway from irvine to riverside around 70 mph. The engine literally slowed to about 10-15 mph. My husband is a decorated marine corps war veteran who has survive three tours in afghanistan, who would have thought that a humdrum commute to work almost cost him his life. And now the check engine light is on and I am too afraid to drive it. This life threatening situation is only the most significant sometimes the car get stuck in back up cam mode or the radio shut off randomly and refuses to come back on. If I am going up a hill or a mountain the car won't go over 40 mph, and I can't trade it in cause I owe more than what the car is worth.

32 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving at 20 mph the vehicle suddenly lost all power and started rolling back while in drive. There were no warning signs that illuminated. The problem recurred again. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not diagnosed yet. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The approximate mileage was 100,000. Sl.
