Wiper problems of the 2014 Chevrolet Equinox - part 2

My wife was driving my 2 young sons to daycare in the morning while it was raining when she was almost there the windshield wipers just stoped working. She drove to a friends house close by after dropping my children off and had to get an uber home. Upon inspection I found the wiper transmission arm became disconnected from the wiper linkage. After looking online I discovered this was a common problem and it was suggested to replace the bushing that connects them. I replaced it with the correct bushing and reinstalled it. The wipers worked fine for a few days and this morning the same thing happened again while she was driving my sons to daycare and she attempted to use the wipers to spray and clean the windows they disconnected. I have seen this same complaint from many people and am now very concerned that after it gets fixed again if it happens at the wrong time or on the interstate we could lose visibility and it could cause an accident.

Windshield wipers stopped working during rainstorm from hurricane zeta. Wiper motor still runs but wipers do not move. Wiper transmission linkage has broken. If this hasn't happened to you yet it's only a matter of time before it does.

Windshleld wiper jumps off windshield on driver side. I've replaced the entire mechanism several times and it only lasts about six months or so before doing it again. Terrible design. Plastic parts. Someone needs to do something about this. I put down October 30, 2020 as the date this happened but it's not the first time.

Wipers stopped working during rainstorm while car was moving. Luckily I was in a parking lot when I happened. Sounds like motor is working, however wipers have not moved since, and remain useless.

Windshield wipers stopped working in the middle of using them at night in the rain on the florida turnpike. Windshield wipers went down and never came back up. You can hear the motor working but wipers do not move.

Wipers were running and then suddenly they stopped during rain storm. When I turn the wipers on now, they just make a clicking noise but they do not move.

Wipers stopped working while driving on the highway in heavy rain. Wiper motor could be heard still working. Replacing the fuse had no effect. Big safety issue, with plenty of complaints on record for the same thing.

As I was driving down the street the wiper blades stopped working. I tried to turn the wipers back off and then back on and the motor seems to work however the blades were not moving. It was raining out and I was driving when this happened. This is a big safety issue. Luckily I did not get in an accident.

The windshield wiper transmission failed. The wipers stopped completely. My daughter was driving in a heavy thunderstorm and couldn't see anything. She was on I-95 in heavy traffic in the middle lane and was lucky to avoid an accident. I'm aware that there was a recall for the same thing in 2013 models and that there is a current investigation into the same problem for other years. This could have been tragic! I see numerous repair videos online for the same exact problem! chevy knows this!.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving 75 mph in heavy rain, the windshield wipers ceased operating. The contact safely exited the roadway onto the shoulder and called for roadside assistance. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the windshield wiper motor was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 57,000.

Windshield wipers failed twice in the last six months, most recent repair was June 20, 2020, both during a rain event. Replaced plastic ball joints twice, failed today July 8, 2020. Second complaint, excessive oil consumption, 3 quarts low and never set a check engine light, this has happened 3 times, vehicle has 98k miles.

On 12/30/19 the windshield wipers would not work. The vehicle had been parked over night. Linkage was repaired. Gm refunded the cost. On 7/1/20, the wipers stopped again during a sudden downpour while traveling on a rural highway.

During heavy rain with poor visibility windshield wipers stopped at top of stroke and did not move any further. I had to stop at a busy intersection no longer able to safey perform a left hand turn onto a divided highway across two lanes of traffic, I had to put on hazard lights and turn right from a left hand only turn lane due to being unable to see out of front windshield but only able to see traffic from door window. Wiper motor made noises but blades did not move. Was forced to wait approximately 30 minutes until rain stopped to proceed to mechanics shop. This occurred at the intersection of topside drive and alcoa highway in knoxville, tennessee. I had my wife, 19 year old son, 12 year old niece, and 7 year old nephew in the vehicle. The failure of the wiper system occurred suddenly and without warning with no prior issues with wiper system. The vehicle is a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox with 104,000 miles.

Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. While operating the vehicle the front wind shield wipers failed to operate. The failed wipers caused a visibility hazard. The failure was caused by a faulty wind shield wiper motor cover. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph during a pouring rain storm the wind shield wipers did not turn on after activating the front wind shield wiper switch. After stopping the vehicle and turning the engine back on the wipers again failed to operate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the front wind shield wiper motor cover was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 96,000. Jft.

Driving in heavy rain, wipers on high, stopped functioning. Was driving 40mph on a highway. . Rt 19, pittsburgh, PA. Unable to see. Stopped vehicle, as safely as possible with no visibility. Was able to manually move wipers. Unable to use wipers at this time. Unable to find a recall. Do see multi complaints with this issue.

Driving in moderate rain 45 mph with windshield wipers on intermittent. Blades stopped abruptly, stayed in middle of windshield. Motor clicks but blades obviously not engaged at base, which is covered by black plastic and inaccessible. Dangerous!.

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the front windshield wipers sized without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and informed the contact that the windshield wiper linkage bushings were defective and needed to be repaired or replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred 3 more times and the windshield wiper motors were replaced each time. Bob hook Chevrolet service (4144 bardstown rd, louisville, ky 40218, (502) 499-0800) was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 16v582000 (visibility) as a possible solution to the failure however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

I was driving on the highway and the windshield wipers stopped working in the middle of heavy rain and traffic. We had to pull off the highway with hazards and by sticking our heads out of the window.

On 1/18/2020, while driving during heavy rain, the wipers swung to the left during a cycle and stayed in the far left position. They did not cycle anymore and became loose and could be moved by hand in any direction. Pulled off and got under hood and changed the fuse #29, with no avail. The wiper motor could be heard but would not cycle the wipers. Very dangerous conditions in which to lose function of wipers.

Was driving in the rain. Wipers slung to the left side of windshield and stopped working. Had to pull off highway till it quit raining.

My wipers just stop working in the middle. Of wiping!!!!.

Wiper transmission has broken 3 times in the last 12 months cost of $500 so far and I have appointment at garage again I was driving out of the parking lot, wipers were working, then a clunk and wipers quit.

Car was in motion and wipers were in use during rain and wiper just stopped! while driving one evening in the rain, driver's side wiper abruptly stopped mid-wipe and stuck upright on the windshield. I was forced to pull over and inch along to a service center as visibility was severely limited. Chevy dealer determined that the wiper motor and transmission had failed and that part recall had not yet been expanded to 2014 year in the us. I am furious to learn that the recall was expanded only to canada! besides the $350 I am out for the repair I am disappointed that gm is not doing the right thing. Safety was the biggest factor in my decision to buy an Equinox and with a teen driver in the house, a failure like this could have been catastrophic!!.

My wipers stopped working in the middle of a downpour. I took my car to be fixed and was told that the ball bearing in the wipers was completely worn out. I got that fixed. Now 1 month later the exact same thing happened. I read that there was a recall on 2013 and older. I think there needs to be a wider recall to fix this problem.

I had my wipers on because it was a rainy stormy night. When suddenly the driver side wiper flung completely to the left and stayed in an upright position and stopped working. I had thought something had hit my windshield then realized it didn't that my wiper had just stopped. The passenger side windshield wiper works just fine but the driver side one does not. I could not see. I was inches away from an accident had to pull to the side of the road.

Wipers suddenly stopped working in a snow/sleet storm while driving, wiper motor still running, wiper transmission broken. Lucky no one was seriously hurt. Wiper transmission should be recalled as this is a very serious defect.

We were driving on the highway in the pouring rain when all of a sudden the wipers flew off the drivers side and got stuck. We nearly died and caused a large accident over thanksgiving. Why has gm not recalled this?.

Went out to start my car, I started it up my wipers took 2 swipes over the front windshield,. I didn't even hit the switch ? then they returned back down by base of windshield & never came back up to swipe my windshield again ? checked the fuse, it was fine ! I have yet to be able to use my car, do to this safety issue ?? what do I do ? was told that there is a recall investigation on the front windshield motor & arms ? I was setting idling in my driveway & warming up my car ? I am still unable to leave my driveway ? do to the wet, slushy weather & possibility of splashback on my windshield, that I couldn't clean off ? to allow me to see where I was going ? so, what do I do now ??n.

While driving in the pouring down rain,aprox (45 mph) I had my wipers on high because it was raining really hard, all of a sudden they just stopped working. The arm on the drivers side kind of wrapped around the driver side of the car. I was able, by the grace of god to inch my way over on the shoulder from the fast lane. The wipers never would work again. I could hear the motor for them but they wouldn't move. Next day(when luckily it was not raining and was dry) I was able to get it to weber chev. Creve coeur and they worked me in their busy schedule. I was told it was the wiper transmission. There has already been a recall for this exact item for 367,800 terrains and Equinoxes from 2013. There is an investigation for 2010-2016 recalls. This was a very dangerous situation I was in and luckily I was able to stick my head out the window in the pouring rain to inch my car a mile and a half home by way of the shoulder. Please consider a recall for all from 2010-2016.

Ii was driving in a moderate to heavy rain storm on the interstate with heavy traffic with my wipers on ,when they just failed in middle of windshield . . Now not only do I have to navigate to the shoulder in heavy traffic and pouring rain I also have to do it with limited visibility with wipers in my middle field of view �finally made it to shoulder of road . ,where I stopped waited for the rain to stop and moved the wipers from middle of windshield . . Thankfully I was not rear ended being stopped on a major interstate in the pouring down rain.

Wipers stopped working suddenly on my way home from a local mall with 3 children in the car, in a snow squall. It was pretty scary I had to pull over on the highway for 45 minutes until it stopped snowing. I could hear the motor still working but nothing was moving. Took to my mechanic to find out it need a new wiper transmission beacuse it had failed $370 bucks later their working again. Clearly this is a problem that gm has not been able to correct and these vehicles should have been recalled as well.

Driving home tonight on a highway in a major ice sleet snow storm my driver side windshield wiper suddenly stopped moving as a semi truck was passing. I could not see anything for 30 seconds. Luckily I was able to slow down just avoiding a major accident which could of killed my entire family and involved other vehicles.

While driving with windshield wipers on wipers stopped working. The first occurrence happened November 2019. It happened again August 2021.
